I would rate it as a 5, to be a good counter puncher you need to know when to take a quick step back, and when to pivot out of the way so you won't get caught in the corner or ropes.
Broner could of easily avoided those feint punches by simply taking a step back and pivoting to the left or right.
Broner looked smooth against mediocre opposition but sooner or later he had to step up. It should have come as no surprise that he was no Mayweather or he would have stepped up a long time ago.
Didn't even look that smooth most of the time to be honest. He just blew guys out. The Quntero and PDL fights don't need to be rehashed again but it was clear from those alone that his feet were not good and that feints bothered/confused him.
His heavy feet wouldn't be such a major handicap if he could anticipate his opponent's moves better. But he can't, and that's the real problem. How are you going to be an in-the-pocket counter puncher if you don't have the instincts to tell you what's coming next? You can't. Even if you have an iron chin the top level boxers will still be a nightmare for you.
The reality was and is that Maidana was ideal for Broner if Broner was as advertised. Even if some flaws can be fixed, the fundamental deficiencies that fight exposed can't be. You can't just teach a guy to have the instincts of a great pocket fighter, certainly not in his mid-twenties. That's not to say Broner can't be a factor at 147, but if Marcos Maidana can fit through the gaps that are there then it doesn't suggest that more complete fighters are going to struggle with him.
That's one of my favorite points of the fight. Broner dropping his right arm in anticipation of the body shot and Maidana loops it upstairs
Broner slick doe
Don't forget he yon doe
How would you rate Adrien Broner footwork on a scale of one to ten.
Footwork is slightly above average.
Reflex is so so as well. That's why he don't counter that well.
He mostly move forward and backward with that same faked arse shouldah roll from Floyd. The dude doesn't moving his focking head at all.
EASY target. Will need major overhaul on his style to do much.

TBF in the Maidana fight he tried to anticipate a body shot and got dropped with a left hook. :lol1:

Yep. Awesome. Now all the community needs to do is start exposing a fighter's obvious weaknesses before they get exploited and beaten.
Like this.........
His terrible defence and slow feet make him a KO waiting to happen against a decent fighter with power.
I don't understand all the Broner hype. He needs to work on a defensive style that works for him because he gets hit way too often trying to imitate Mayweather, his footwork is also poor. He's been able to get away with it fighting smaller fighters, but when he comes up against someone around his size that can bang he's going to be in a lot of trouble.

No b.s I wish I was posting more after the Paulie fight. When I don't have Internet st Home I tend to not post. Now that I have it I'm posting more. I saw this after the Paulie fight but my mistake with broner was assuming he would adjust and have the boxing iq to use some sense of movement I over estimated his ring intelligence to some degree.
Again against Antonio demarco who is limited he looked great. But demarco had no weapons other than being resilient like he showed against ...**** I forgot his name, the Venezuelan Japanese expat. But when I saw the Paulie fight a lot of people were pointing out how limited he looked. Maidana should have been his coming out party and he got served.
Edit, Jorge lineares is who I forgot
Broner did not head the warnings from Floyd himself after the Paulie fight when he told him what his flaw was....even after training at the Mayweather gym he still did not change this huge flaw...Broner likes to stand toe to toe and fight and i can appreciate that, but there comes a time when you have to use your legs in a fight to be effective and he seems to lack this trait
Bad and most of all he is a 2 switch fighter is he either is switched in defense mode or offense mode barely ever counter punches he waits for the other guys to finish. That was all well and dandy when he was fighting smaller weak 135 pounders that couldn't do sh*t to him but not with the big boys with that crappy defense of his when something does hit it hurts.
