As always Solis' first battle will be with the scales. I believe this must one of the most one sided series in history with the scales taking the W nearly every time.
If he shows up in what Solis would consider good shape I think he beats an ageing Thompson handily. If not then it could turn out be a long and very ugly night of boxing that will make us all hate that we wasted an hour of our lives watching it. Though i'd still give the edge to Solis... just.
this I a good matchup but I think Thompson may be getting too long in the tooth to keep up the solid fights he has been in the last few years. at 42 it's tough to keep up with the younger guys. Thompson is one guy who has benefited from travelling abroad. if only he could secure a few bigger fights overseas sooner. solis by decision...
Solis is a lazy bastard. I know his kind. He's the type that only gets up for a real challenge. That's when he's dangerous. The rest of the time, Odlanier coasts. What guys like him don't understand is that that mentality stunts your growth. Consistent effort is what unleashes one's full potential. Sadly, this means Solis will never be the fighter he could've been.
I'm with you. It's too bad. If somebody like him had like a Hagler type of mentality he could be a big star here maybe. If he's just doing this for the money doesn't he realize how much money he could make if he pushed himself?
Do you know if winner gets a title shot or this another eliminator? Winner fights Mike Perez?
No, Wlad is already defending agains Leapai who is mandatory, Pulev had been a mandatory for a year, Arreola - Stiverne winner should get a shot this year as well with guys like Fury and Wilder still being considered in a near future, one more win for Adamek and Wlad can cash out on a fight in Poland like his brother as well. Winner of this one doesnt get any close to the title fight, neither is Perez or Jennings even if they both win in January.
If I'm wrong Solis will be lucky to get by Thompson, by Thompson tiring late, but if I'm right about him he needs a guy at least as good as Thompson to bring it out of him. Look how much better he looked against Vitali than against a guy like Larsen. He just doesn't motivate easy. He's said before he does this for a living, not for a passion. Somebody needs to be good enough to lay it on him to bring the fire out. He needs somebody with some craft like Thompson who can get up close and put pressure on him to show how he can counter the f**k out of somebody like a boss.

This fight is reportedly a done-deal for 22nd March in Turkey.

I know it was only the first round but i honestly thought Solis would have gone on to win if it wasn't for that knee of his. Vitali looked lost at sea in front of Solis.
I would put all my possessions on Solis UD'ing Thompson.
Yes, Solis's movement looked like it was going to cause Vitali some problems.
I hope Solis comes into this fight in shape.

I believe Vitali would have beaten him by close decision : 116-112 or 115-113 or would have caught him with a right cross or an awkward right hook.
Solis was making Vitali miss a lot before injuring his knee.

wanna say Thompson is the tougher and more driven fighter
but isn't he like 45 yrs old by now?
and Pulev ended whatever 2nd wind his career got from the Price KO's
gotta go with Solis on points in a fight that will probably suck
I get the impression Solis needs big fights. I hope he finally begins to realise his potential.
I fancy Solis by decision, maybe even by stoppage if he brings it to Thompson.
