Why does Martinez have to be less than 100% for Cotto to win?

... You're talking about a Martinez we don't even know there will be anymore... (didn't even entered a boxing gym yet...) Well...that's what I've just said, like I mentioned probably on another thread, Martinez at even 70% beats the Cottos and Golovkins of the world. Heck if Cotto can even beat Martinez at 50% I'd give him huge credit, the same of course won't apply for middleweights.

I think Cotto can put up a good fight against Martinez but stylistically, Martinez's size may be an issue for Cotto and the work rate Martinez sets along with his quick shots might bother Cotto. Should be a great fight to watch either way. Hope it happens!

A prime martinez knocks out cotto no question. In fact it could end up being a mismatch. If they do fight now i still think martinez wins but theres a chance the age and injuries catch up with him and cotto does work. But ya the martinez that fought williams, pavlik, barker, macklin...etc KOs cotto inside 10.

Sergio is naturally bigger, faster and has good stamina. He also hits hard and has a good chin. He has been tested by Cintron, Williams and Pavlik and has shown that he can hang with punchers and high volume fighters. On top of all of that he is a lefty. Look how Cotto lost to Trout who has less punching out put and power

Martinez is taller, longer reach, bigger, stronger, hits harder, quicker, better footwork and sharper reflexes, with a better chin too (keeping in mind I'm talking about a Martinez who can come back from surgery fully healed at back at his best or close to it). Cotto was a terrific fighter at 140-147 and had an ok run at 154. But he doesn't hit hard enough at the higher weights to hurt any of the premier fighters, especially not someone who has taken punches from guys like Pavlik and Chavez and won. ... All I keep reading is "Cotto can win if Sergio isn't 100%." That's BS IMO. Cotto has the skills to hang with a healthy Sergio and beat him. I can't be the only one who thinks that. It is simple Cotto is not a middleweight and Martinez is a very good middleweight not some schlep. Cotto is a good offensive boxer but dude is going to get hit, he always gets tagged and against a bigger man that is not a good trait. Plus to even entertain the idea that Cotto could keep him off, he would if Martinez was at his best require a ton of motion and effort. In the fights where Cotto had to exert a ton of effort to keep up he folded at some point. I don't see how a healthy Martinez does not force him out of his optimum activity level, which is always key to Cotto's success. If Martinez is unhealthy though some of those things could change and Cotto might be able to win depending on how far Martinez has slipped.

If an out of prime Mosley, Judah coming off two losses, Clottey are your best wins then I have a hard time even figuring out why that is HOF worthy unless you count the fact that Gatti is in. Lol

Because there's no way today's Cotto is beating a guy who's much bigger, faster, hits harder and has the movement Martinez does. Cotto is getting soundly beaten by Trout. Martinez will kill the guy. I think he beats him even if he's not 100% to be honest. He's going to hit Cotto a lot and hurt him a lot. i agree with everything bar the 100 percent comment the murray fight in which martinez was in bits, he lost that, he got a home town decision and was dropped two times (only 1 counted) and I remember him having little movement, his reactions also went to bits. if martinez is not at around 85 percent at least compared to his best, it will be a tough fight, if martinez is in the same condition as the murray fight he will lose personally I think this will perhaps be the last fight for martinez, certainly on the big stage, I think we will see a slower martinez, he will be at around 90 percent, I think he will knock cotto out at like round 8 and call it a day imo

People.....its over. Cotto is one of the most loved/paid gatekeepers because he's a noble boxer. He has a lot of heart and wears it on his glove when he boxes. He's just not a natural even at 154. And i felt he was made for 147....so putting things into perspective, how can that counter uppercut that Judah land hurt him, the pitter patter flick punches that Trout throw keep him honest and did we ****ing forget? Demarcus Corley? A guy who comes in at 140 on fight night was maybe 1 or 2 clean punches from finishing Cotto because of that right hook. So how can Cotto, 9 years later, 9 years older, in 9 years after the Judah hurt him, Clottey beat him arguably, same with Shane, Floyd beat him...and even he hurt him, Margarito robbed him of like 5-6 fights and Pacquiao absolutely demolished him can we feel he'd beat up on a bigger, slicker, stronger man? Cotto one of my favorite fighters, but Martinez is too. Its gonna be a quick night and i'd be shocked if Cotto wins

Because Martinez at 100% is bigger, stronger, faster and better boxer. There's just no way in hell Coto beats Martinez if he's 100% as in perfectly over his injuries. Most of all, its a matter of simple size. Cotto is very small for that weight, Martinez is pretty big. That alone is a big difference in boxing, were many bigger boxers have beaten smaller ones in spite of not beign that good. If we add to that that Martinez is in fact pretty good, then that's why most see a realistic chance of winning only if Martinez is still strugglign with his injuries.

If Martinez doesn't KO Cotto here I would be surprised to be honest, his style is just all wrong for Cotto, unless Team Cotto knows something about Martinez's injuries that we don't know.

Because cotto does not have an iron jaw Martinez will be a 170-175 pound man punching a blown up 147 fighter in the face. Martinez had good punching power, speedand technique. Cotto will get knocked out early if anything more than a 90 percent Martinez comes at him compared to his prime Martinez will be throwing less than Pac, not using as many angles or combinations but his punches will be twice as hard

He hated Pacquiao's high volume, crazy angles, and relentless attack. Martinez doesn't bring any of that to the table, maybe the angles, but not to the same degree. I believe Cotto set the world record for most low-blows with no point deduction in the Judah fight as well. LMFAO after Zab lifted Cotto off the ground with that uppercut the aim became the cup, the ref didn't even wanna give zab the time to recover lmao...the Zab win is kinda tainted IMO had he been fighting within the rules that would have been a better fight.
