Damn NSB. Total disrespect for Sergio. At least see how the champ looks in his next fight.I don't respect him because he has hasn't fought the top 3 or 4 middleweights in years. Hagler fought the best middleweights 4 times a year. He will never fight GGG. Why should I wait to see how he looks knocking out little Cotto, something Pacquiao and Margarito already did? No version of Martinez I've ever seen would stand a chance against GGG. I know GGG would crush the Paul Williams that beat Martinez. Martinez fought a draw with Cintron and Cintron wouldn't last 3 rounds with GGG.
This would make sense if Cotto and GGG presented the same threat. They clearly do not.
Most everyone knows that Martinez is so past it that anyone credible would do him in at this juncture, he's not the same guy as 4 years ago or 1 year ago for that matter.
This would make sense if Cotto and GGG presented the same threat. They clearly do not.
cotto is clearly better. with a grand total of 0 fights at 160 and barely being top 10 at 154, he brings a lot of resistance to old man Martinez. what a great great fight!
Please, have mercy on poor Sergio. The guy is washed up and should have retired years ago and I'm afraid for his safety against Cotto as well. We should start a petition to have him dump his belt for his own health.

I think the best type of fighter that could beat GGG, is a pit bull Mike Tyson type fighter. Short, stocky, and can get in on you with KO power.
Curtis Stevens fits some of those descriptions, but lacks the agility, and in fighting ability.

martinez will/would never beat golovkin
you can't fight him with your hands down, you have to parry his jab, his defense is pretty good too, you may get in a good shot once in a while but it definitely wont be too often, he'd have to be shoe-shined and ran from(literally) to be beat and even then it's tough, maybe you're better off fighting him and forcing him back but either way no one is beating him without going through hell
Agree, man. You have to force him back, otherwise you're dead. You can't literally run from a guy that can cut the ring off like that for 12 rounds, without gassing out, and ending up KOd.
But that's the thing. I don't even know if a healthy Sergio could outbox GGG.
GGG is a master of using distance, and placing shots at the exact moment he needs to throw them. He also puts that rangy/jab pressure on you.
It's the type of boxing where you're on the back foot, and he's the one that's in control. Then you have to worry about which punch is coming, how much power it's gonna have on it, all while the jabs pumping at you, constantly.
GGG's a tough stylistic match up for literally any MW and below. He puts that pressure on you, cuts you off at every turn, AND he throws fight ending shots. It's such a methodical type of beat down, and Sergio's never had to deal with that.
He's used to guys in the middle of the ring giving him openings, then being able to score when they're resting, or when they give him openings. GGG never lets you rest, and the mental pressure is another thing you have to deal with, because of that power.
It's just a totally bad match up for him.

I hear you and I understand why people are calling him "Shot" based on his last performance but I think he knows what he will need to do for this fight. He is a veteran and I think he has a lot more left in him than people think. I could be wrong but I really think he will come up with a good plan. If he can bother GGG just a little with his power, enough to make him hesitate on the offense, he will definitely outbox him. If GGG has no respect for his power.....well then is Night, Night for Sergio!

That's the huge problem I thought he'd pose to GGG. The counter left bomb, but that's when he was moving like a cat, and his punch resistance was much better.
After the Stevens fight, GGG proved his chin, and then some. Dude took FLUSH shots from Stevens, and kept coming.
Now I don't have that worry in the back of my mind like, "maybe I'm overrating this guy's chin, and maybe he might get exposed by a good puncher like Sergio."
Don't have that feeling anymore.
