Broner reminds me of reality TV. Millions of people don't watch these shows to see abundant displays of character and humility. They tune in to see drama and train wrecks. Broner has managed to create this persona that many find repulsive. Many feel like he embodies everything that is wrong with the sport. The truth is, this was originally scheduled to be a pay per view fight. Because of this said persona, Broner is one of the biggest "names" in the sport. Just look around these pages and see how often he is discussed, good or bad. On the opposite end of he spectrum, Andre Ward "appears" to be the anti Broner and is not as popular. His name has never been in the discussion of a pay per view fight. In the end, Broner wrote a check his @ss couldn't cash against Maidana. The boxing public revels in his demise. The question I have, if it was just about his talent alone would we even care? Broner headlined the card and made a hefty sum taking this beating. He was placed in that position because so many of us dislike everything about him and wanted to see him lose. We implicitly supported his status in the sport. We seem to be more interested in seeing Broner lose than guys like Andre Ward win. This could be a reason that Broner has adopted his persona, humility does not get you that far in this sport.
I'm talking about American PPV stars. The last American PPV star that was also marketed as a "good guy" was ODLH. Mayweather's ascendancy to PPV King was clearly not based in his character. More people paid to see him lose, than pick any fighter's fans paid to see them win. If you noticed, after he got out of jail the last time the 24/7 series promoting his fight against Guerrero lacked drama and you saw a more humble Mayweather. His PPV #'s against Guerrero were his lowest since ODLH. When he is throwing up money and getting into ugly confrontations with his father ratings are through the roof and Cha Ching.
So you're saying Broner is smart because he knows how to act ignorant for the cameras?
I think you should be pointing your fingers at humanity for buying into the persona.
Being the bad guy only works if you can back it up in the ring. Broner didn't, and now will get a lot less attention until he rebuilds his reputation, if he can.
I don't think Broner created a character. I think he really is a conceited, classless, hateful, disrespectful, disgusting dumbass. His conduct in the Maidana fight showed again whan an Ahole Broner really is. He sure as hell is not the future of boxing.
What's the point of this thread?
We saw that Broner is far from being stupid or talentless... He behaves like shit, alright...
"Da problem" he really faces is that he is not fully dedicated to the sport...
My point is the fans are also complicit in this. If we are not watching or paying to see him fight it doesn't matter. People are celebrating that he lost. But it is the same emotion and disdain we have for him that made him the headliner in the first place. If I am disgusted by the content of a program, I am not going to watch. But we watch anyway and then talk about how disgusted we were by the program.
Fair enough, I'm not interested in boxers personal lives though. I don't even go in those threads so I really don't know what kind of stuff he said or did.
Well you might not be interested but being a boxer means your an athlete which means you're a celebrity. And people are always interested in their lives.
He chose to be in the spotlight. No one likes a person who talks trash but can't back it up. I tried to listen to his interview on power 105.1? Whatever that radio that is and I had to click the x at to top.
With the right training and dedication he can still become a superstar. He's a grown man now, loose the grills and rap career.
I don't get why everyone hates Broner so much. Who cares what he does outside of the ring? It's not like he's out committing crimes- killing people or starting prpstitution rings... That's his business, man. He's a young guy on a big stage, we need guys with some personality/charisma in the sport.
That said, a loss is NOT the end of the world and he will be fine. I guess some people just expected way too much and maybe his promoter is to blame a bit for hyping him as the next Floyd- after PDL, he hasn't been tested, jumping from paulie to Maidaina is a big leap due to styles and type of fighters: Maidaina can hurt you, Paulie can't.
Broner has no personality/ charisma he's a superficial narcissist with no identity. Guys like GGG / D. Garcia have personalities
It's his personality that turns people off. It's that simple. If he was a proven fighter with some creditable wins I'm sure he wouldnt receive the backlash.
But seriously, posting a picture of you getting head from two females? That stripper incident. Being over weight.
I think he's more focused on being a celebrity rather than being dedicated to his craft. He needs to focus on his bread and butter which is boxing. He's simply not dedicated enough.
For me, I dislike his personality because when he opens his mouth he comes off an unintelligent babbling baboon. I don't hate him though, just don't like his attitude as a person.

A poor excuse to justify his low life scumbag behavior which exists even when the cameras are not rolling. AB, always balling, assaulting grannies... AB, always balling, burning dollar bills and flushing them down the toilet. AB, always balling, having unprotected threesomes while he has a fiancee. AB, always balling, chains worth more than my own mother's house. Always balling, you know how it is.
No, he is a dumbass, but unfortunately it has worked out for him as far as marketability goes.
Coming into the fight not respecting maidanas power, and trying to stay flat footed in front of him and war it out is pretty fukn dumb on his part.
