Manny Pacquiao can have the belt, says Floyd Mayweather

By Carlo Pamintuan | Yahoo PH Sports – 18 hours ago After the World Boxing Council named Manny Pacquiao as the mandatory challenger to Floyd Mayweather’s welterweight title, the mega-fight that the boxing world has hoped for seemed closer than ever. Mayweather has held the green 147-belt for a long time some people thought it might be important enough to the American fighter to sway him for a showdown with Pacquiao. Mayweather killed this idea in an interview with Fight Hype. “Everybody's talking about the title he’s (Pacquiao's) the mandatory. He can have the belt! A belt don't make me. A belt doesn’t define Floyd Mayweather,” said the fighter. The undefeated fighter then questioned the selection of Pacquiao by the WBC. “Here’s the Manny Pacquiao story. Manny Pacquiao was at welterweight. He lost to Timothy Bradley, no matter how you cut it, how you slice it, he lost to Timothy Bradley. He got knocked out by Marquez. He came back and went the distance with a lightweight,” said Mayweather. “And now all of a sudden, he’s the mandatory for my title.” “I’ve been champion since 1998 to right now. I’m not 1 and 2 in my last three fights. I’m 48 and 0. But like I said before, put him in front of me, I’ll beat him.” He went on to state the reasons why he thinks Pacquiao doesn’t deserve a shot at him. Mayweather said that Pacquiao’s pay-per-view numbers have dipped while he has broken his own sales record. He added that his gate receipts against Saul Alvarez were also the richest in boxing history. “It's not just Floyd Mayweather's bigger than a title. Floyd Mayweather at the level now, he can come out with his own world championship belt,” he said. “In the future, I think my face is going to be in the belt on one side. At one particular time you had Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali. I don’t know where my face will be placed there on the belt but I think in the future my face will be on the WBC belt or the WBA or the IBF.” Mayweather currently holds all the aces if ever the two sides will open negotiations for a fight. Aside from Pacquiao’s sliding pay-per-view numbers and his recent twin losses, Mayweather understands that Pacquiao needs a fight against him to take care of his tax woes with the IRS. if youre talking purely in terms of rankings...how can Pac be a #1 contender if there are 2 guys at WW who have recently beat him??...a loss to Bradley (robbery or not) + a brutal KO loss to Marquez + beating up Rios =/= #1 contender in my mind.... when you throw everything out the window however, yes he is probably the #2 guy in the division... but ive come to grips with the fact that this fight is never going to happen while Bob Arum is alive...whether he is the actual reason or not, we will never know, but its either his fault, or he is a real convenient excuse for the fight to never happen....either way with Arum in charge of Manny, this fight will never happen.. Then if you think it's bob arum for argument sake. Then why didn't Floyd mention it in the video? He rather downplays PAC when we all know compared to the last time negotiation which was a 50/50 take between them. Now in his position he will even get a bigger take of the pie. Bigger purse than 3 khans. So tell me why is he called money Mayweather again?

You took what I said out of context. Without the fight he still is a HOF fighter & legend, but to not fight Pacquiao is foolish. Their the two very best of their era & it's only common sense to see who truly is the #1 of this era. I only meant that if Floyd did happen to lose, he'd be a hall of famer & legend regardless so I don't see why he just doesn't take the fight already. How can the fight be made if Arum will not make it? Do you think FMJ came out of retirement, fight JMM, then not want to fight Manny. That is just crazy. Do you think FMJ did not see the $ at the end of the rainbow? It is his nickname. Manny has NO POWER and Bob Arum has it all. Just follow the first negotiation and interviews. Bob Arum was never going to make the fight. People say blame both sides, but why, when it is clear Bob does not want it and clearly has the power to stop it. And did. Manny being the #1 contender is a chapter in a book that will never get printed.

And if the fight is made and Floyd wins then what? "Oh, he waited until Pac was past prime" My point exactly, you're never going to get the satisfaction of what it is that you're seeking. Just let the fight go. Floyd doesn't care for the fight and Manny doesn't want it bad enough to conduct himself as the B-Side and concede to Floyd's demands, so, it will never happen. Let it go man lol well , it's a shame floyd waited this long, it it what it is.....but hey , it is still the biggest demnded fight and pac seems to have a lil something left in the tank ..it's good for me ..you have to lower your standards to get floyd in the ring vs guys you want him to fight , thats just whats going here...

It's a shame all were going to be hearing about yet throughout 2014 is Mayweather vs Pacquiao over & over. I don't know why Floyd just doesn't fight him already to get it over with. He needs to stop ducking him & just get on with it already. Even Stephen A. Smith who's a huge Floyd dick rider thinks Floyd is ducking Pacquiao. Mayweather would be a pretty decent favorite to win too, and would make even more than in his fight against Alvarez, so I don't get why he doesn't fight him win or lose. Even if he did lose, he'd still easily be a HOF fighter & a legend in the sport.
