IMO Matthysse's body punching would be the difference in the fight if it happens. Maidana has a good chin but his biggest weakness is body shots. He's been hurt by Khan, Lopez, and Soto Karass all from body shots. Matthysse is better than all three of those guys when it comes to working the body. Either one of these guys has the power to stop each other though and there both tough sons a *****es, so it's hard to call but I have to go with Lucas.
Good point. Matthysse is an expert kidney puncher. He has several KO that way.
before sept 2013 i thot lucas took it, but maidana showed some skills and patience against broner while lucas seemed to be limited as a brawler against garcia.
id give the edge to maidana.
? Lucas boxed really well for the first half of the fight. Once eye was a factor he was getting hit more for obvious reasons and changed the whole dynamic of the fight. He knew he was falling behind so he started to look to land the one big shot and he landed some but never landed the one he wanted. While Maidana was impressive against Broner, his boxing skills weren't overly impressive to me. He looked the same to me he just mauled Broner and had more success than he did against Khan or Alexander because Broner just stood in front of him the whole fight. Out if those two performances I thought Lucas showed a better display of boxing.

Maidana. Maidana is mouch more unpredictable and does subtle things whether it be defensively or offensively setting up a power punch. Matthyse is very methodical and predictable. He has to set his feet to throw.
I know Lucas has built this myth around him, but he hasn't been fighting the level of competition that el Chino has.
Keep in mind though, the reputation Lucas has he didnt build it by running his mouth but by talking with his fists and badas5 stoicism in vicotry or defeat, very much like Marcos Maidana, they've earned the rep. they have. I think both have fought pretty good opponents.
This is a fight that is truly unpredictable. Both of these fighters have that true explosive one punch knockout; There boxing skill is almost at par, giving lucas a very slight advantage. But, that slight boxing advantage is not enough to completely nullify maidana's aggression. There speed is almost the same as well and both can take a solid punch and very resilient; but, I suspect maidana is even more resilient, I mean this guy is a proven freaking zombie, he just keeps coming back, It doesn't matter if he is hit on the liver, uppercuts, left hook, right cross he's getting freaking up and his recovery is pretty amazing as well. This is truly a pick-em fight and a guaranteed fun for boxing fans. I love this!

Logic dictates that Lucas is a better fighter; their power is probably similar; while Maidana's chin is likely weaker. And yet, if one of these guys has the capability to rise to the occasion, it is Maidana. Lucas has fallen short in spite of his advantages whenever he goes up a level, even if some losses were close.
Maidana v Khan, Kotelnik, Alexander? Matthysse would beat all three. He'd have beat Garcia too imo but was desperately unlucky with eye swelling.
Regardless, I would take Maidana over Matthysse at 147 and maybe at 140 too based on Matthysse losing to him 3 times and his reluctance to take the fight.
at 140 Matthysse , 147 hard to say since Lucas has never fought there and is already a small dude
He was tagging Danny from 1-12 and Danny moves much better than maidana and has better defense as well

Hope to see it in the future (This is the one reason I was hoping for a Broner win, so both these guys could fight each other).
It may be a while before we see it now Maidana would have to lose his next fight or Lucas would have to move up and get a solid win.
You know Golden Boy is saving this trilogy for next year.
Maidana takes people's soul.
Even when he loses he seems to leave some permanent damange in all of those he fought. Matthysse hits like a bag of bricks and is more technical, so I'd think he wins. Lucas is smarter, has better defense and more boxing skills, while Chino is more like a beast that comes straight at you looking to beat the the living crp out of you. Even if you knock him down, he gets up and continues to maul you. He's not kidding when he says you have to kill him to stop him.
I wouldnt be surprised if Chino won either. Would be glad if either one won.
One thing's for sure, it would be epic.
What's crazy is how the exact opposite happened of what I expected with these two in their last fights. Expected Lucas to beat up on Garcia, and Broner to tough out the decision over Maidana.
Boxing sometimes, why I love it.
