I just rewatched the fight and it now seems closer than I originally thought. I had Broner winning 5 rounds, he did well to recover from those knockdowns. Perhaps credit is deserved where, for example, Ortiz quit in the same situation and even Lopez (who has also beaten Ortiz) couldn't recover from Maidana knockdowns. Broner actually did recover and fought back valiantly.
I'm thinking a rematch might not be a bad idea now, that fight wasn't as one-sided as it first appeared. Broner was knocked down twice but knockdowns do happen, just watch Marquez vs Pacquiao 1 for example, Marquez knocked down 3 times in the first round. The crowd cheers and the knockdowns made it appear as if Broner was almost being dominated by Maidana at times, mixed in with the element of surprise for some people, and Maidana's sprawling style but on the second viewing the fight appears more evenly matched in my opinion.
Bottomline: Maidana clearly won the fight of course, that's not even in question, but Broner fought better than I originally gave him credit for.
So poll question involves rewatching the fight if you haven't seen it for a second time.. Is Maidana vs Broner A Closer Fight On The Second Viewing?
No not really. Kind of like the Mayweather-Cotto fight. Broner made it close in a lot of rounds but still lost them. I thought he won some of the mid rounds and the 12th. 3-4 rounds max.
Watching the fight you get the sense that Broner himself KNEW he couldn't beat Maidana. The little boy was scared ****less...his pride is the only thing that kept him in the game.
exactly lol.i think he knew he was in big trouble from the 1st punch chino threw.i dont think he threw more than 5 punches that 1st rnd
Yes, very close.
Broner came close to getting KTFO. He came close to fighting MMA several times, he came close to winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, he came close to crying at the end and came close to needing a straw to feed himself for the rest of his life.
beyond pleasure purposes of course, there's no need for a 2nd viewing; it wasn't close at all, and even Broner milking a point deduction didn't get him in it on points
After third viewing here are the scores. The round I previously scored to Broner (Round 7) I instead scored the round a draw this time. There were some close rounds though - in some cases Broner's inactivity and lulls cost him rounds.
R1: Maidana 10-9
R2: Maidana 10-8 (with knockdown)
R3: Maidana 10-9
R4: Broner 10-9
R5: Broner 10-9
R6: Broner 10-9
R7: Draw 10-10
R8: Maidana 9-8 (with knockdown & headbutt)
R9: Maidana 10-9
R10 Maidana 10-9
R11 Maidana 10-9
R12 Broner 10-9
Final score:
Maidana 115
Broner 111
you're right on SECOND viewing it seemed much closer...but then on 3rd viewing Maidana seemed even more dominant
I think it was the initial shock of how Maidana dominated the first round clearly (that round could have even been scored 10-8 to Maidana because he was so dominant). And then the knockdown very early in round 2. It made it seem as if Maidana was in a different league to Broner and would easily dominate him for the rest of the fight - it "framed" the fight in a certain way from that point. But after that point Broner started boxing well and Maidana never returned to his previous level of "dominance" that he showed in the first two rounds.
broner nicked the 6th, 7th and 12th on my first and second viewing. the middle rounds seemed closer because maidana's punch output dropped. 2 clear knockdowns, staggered 3 or 4 times over the course of the fight, outboxed in patches and outhustled every round. fight was a thorough ass beating from start to finish and a clear loss for adrien.
Rewatching right now for the third time, it's paused at the round 8 knockdown. There is a legitimate case to be made that since the round 2 knockdown, Broner recovered very well and has made this a close fight.
How I got it so far..
R1: Maidana 10-9
R2: Maidana (with knockdown) 10-8
R3: Maidana (in a swing round) 10-9
R4: Broner 10-9
R5: Broner 10-9
R6: Broner 10-9
R7: Draw 10-10
R8: Maidana 10-8
Marcos put a beating on AB and the only reason it didn't get worse is that Chino has shyt stamina. I've said this before about Chino. It would serve him well to improve in that department
If you're being nice to broner you can give him 4 rounds
Marcos was landing all the hard effect shot and more of them. Plus he was hurting him all night long
Revisionists :(
There's just no way you can give this fight to Broner, it was a clear loss. 3 rounds seems to be the majority opinion from what i've seen here - 9-3 is humiliating for a hyped up favourite coming into the fight.
it was a 12 round beat down, only round Broner did anything of note in was the 12th cause Maidana was still out on his feet from the illegal punch after the bell in the 11th.
This pretty much sums it up perfectly. Broner's only real success was the cheap shot after the bell had sounded for round 11.
I guess he is actually kind of like Mayweather in that aspect.
