If not Maidana, who's won a title there now, and is coming off three decent/solid wins at 147???
I honestly don't see a realistic and possible option for May that's legit other then him now. I don't see the problem with Floyd fighting and unifying titles against another Welterweight coming off a decent win streak.
It's better then the Guerrero fight.
Floyd should go for history and fight Martinez.
Thats the fight he should make, very winnable at this stage of Martinez career. But not at the point where Floyd wouldn't still get tons of credit for taking the fight and winning. Perfect time to sneak in and win a fight at 160, and he wont take it. SMH.

Better not be Amir "King" Khan.
Better yet..he can fight Manny! Now there's a thought.
Arum doesnt want it. He started calling Marquez and Provodnikov the minute the Rios fight ended.
i would love to see a thurman-maidana fight, and if it happened early 2014, and maidana was victorious, a sept fight with floyd would be huge...
I think thurman needs a title win, plus another big win to be in the running for a floyd fight, his name still isnt quite big enough yet, but i see 2014 being the year that thurman lands a belt plus another big win, and he would be in the driving seat for a floyd fight in 2015 IMO
Technically, !time has a belt, the interim WBA WW title, but i feel ya, a legit championship belt would be good. Makes even more sense to make chino vs 1time!!!!
Maidana vs. Thurman is a better fight that I'm sure 95% of fans want to see anyways.
Yes.
Though I feel sorry for Maidana. He always gets the **** job of crash testing shiny new things.
Khan isn't ranked at WW, maybe by some asinine alphabet organizations, but not the RING.
I wouldn't defend Khan at all, have you not read the thread???
Rankings can be overrated and I will tell you why. It sometimes hides the TRUTH!!!
Maybe you will (see your Marquez opinion), maybe you will not. Initially, very few were defending Floyd for taking on a Marquez that had just moved up from 130 to 135 then Floyd says "but he is ranked #2 P4P" and the Floyd parrots line up and mimick Floyd like it's legit reason.
Floyd will probably not fight Khan but if he does, you will see that some will come back and say "Khan beat Maidana", "Khan was ranked #2". Something like that or say "it's a good money fight" or "it's a good tuneup fight for September" just to hide the truth under the rug.
- Hatton was a KING at 140 NOT 147
- Marquez was a carreer 126/130 fighter that had just moved up to 135
- Ortiz went life and death with Maidana and Berto knocked him down twice and Peterson drew with him the fight before/
- Guerrero had a long layoff and struggled against a guy who moved down to 140 and another guy that is losing to everyone that has some offense (berto) and people were criticizing because he had a weak resume.
- Judah - Mr inconsistent, lost to all the top fighters at WW and some not so good (Baldomir, Clottey, Floyd, Cotto, Paulie, Spinks)
- Mosley - Was ranked for beating a guy who just got caught cheating in January 2009 not for what he did in May 2010. Was inactive for 16 months and old then fought Floyd. What has Mosley done since Jan 2009 if he is so good? Father time caught up to that version of Mosley and FLOYD admitted to that in his pre-fight game plan.
- Baldomir: Had 2 notable fights against Mr inconsistent Judah and a ready to retire Gatti who was NOT a WW fighter. So with some luck, he was ranked the way he was.
You put out the criteria that only Maidana is legit since he had several fights at WW. So those guys that I listed don't meet up with YOUR criteria.
Top 5? Top 5 what? Khan is ranked #2 at WW according to some. So if that fight happens, you will say that Floyd fought 6 ranked guys. Don't say no because you did it with Marquez which was worse because everyone knows that he had just moved up from 130 to 135!!!
BUT like I stated yesterday, we have already seen enough of those type of fights where a guy beats up on 1 guy who was questionable at best at WW and everyone now considers him the guy to fight Floyd. That formula can be tried once or twice but now it's getting ridiculous!
Those guys that I listed fought and beat guys that are suspect / questionable opponents at WW or they themselves looked shaky at WW. Even then 1 fight is just 1 fight. These guys were not tearing up boxing and nobody is thinking that they have a good shot against Floyd. So what is the point?

That would be huge. Would set Garcia up for September nicely. Not sure Floyd can survive these remaining four fights without a loss -- or at least a scare but it's sure going to be fun.
Going to be 37 next year and by the time he has his final fight (should he win them all) he'll be 38 so yeah, definitely a chance of losing. He's still sharp but he's also still declining.
If they haven't had any fights at WW at all, they better be the Top 140 fighter. Ricky Hatton was. Tim Bradley was when Pac fought him. Danny Garcia would be right now.
Ortiz moved up and beat Berto to win the title, was instantly a Top 3 WW. Guerrero had two fights at 147 against Top 10 WW's. Sharmba.....No one even talks about that fight....Marquez was bull, but he KO'd Manny since. Gotta give Floyd a tiny bit of credit for shutting him out.
Floyd's 147 resume ain't too bad
Judah (#5 WW)
Baldomir (RING WW CHAMP)
Hatton (#8 P4P/#1 140)
Marquez (#2 P4P, would go on to stop Pac at WW)
Mosley (#1-2 WW)
Ortiz (#2 WW)
Guerrero (#3 WW)
He's beaten 5 guys who were in the Top 5 there, another guy who'd won a title there, was the top 140 fighter in the world, and Top 10 P4P. And the other was a horrible fight at the time, but Marquez has since gone on to KO Pacquiao at 147.

I could see it.
Of course Pauli has the experience and savy to see the distance but I see Danny dominating him and possibly stopping him late.

I wouldn't complain at all. They're gonna have to set Garcia up real nicely. I'm not sure if Malignaggi is it -- unless Danny pulls off the unthinkable and stops him.

Floyd fight an opponent that has 3 solid wins at WW? How about 3 fights at WW?
So now you are confirming that Floyd has not had legit fights recently at WW:
Marquez = 0 fights at WW
Hatton ..= 1 fight at WW
Ortiz ....= 1 fight at WW
Sharmba = 1 fight at WW
Guerrero = 2 fights at WW (1 against an opponent that dropped down to JWW)
WHo is next?

Discussing Top Rank fighters with regards to who Floyd fights next is just dumb. Get a grip and move on.
I still see Floyd taking a tune-up this May and then taking on Garcia in September. I wouldn't be surprised to see Garcia-Maidana made for next Spring.
Floyd fighting a tune-up in May? :lame: You say it like it's a normal thing. Funny stuff but expected when it comes to Floyd and his fans.

I'm expecting Garcia-Malignaggi.
Maidana-Thurman.
Brook-Porter (Brook's the mandatory and apparently Brook actually wants the fight)
