Broner has no movement in his roll he just stands there and doesn't throw counters out of it. Its like if ur throwing punches against him he can't do 2 things at once block and punch. He needs to become a better thinker in the ring & develop more movement. This was good for him
Broner is flatfooted. That is his problem. He relies TOO MUCH on that shell defense. He thinks he can just sit there and walk anyone down or shield through any punch. You cant shield against everything and when you fighting a big puncher you have to rely on your mobility and choose your spots when you want to shell up. Maidana knew to throw that over right and he kept connecting with it. He knew to feint at the body and go up top with the lead left hooks. Too one dimensional... he shows very little boxing ability. Its just the same shell walk you down type of style he uses over and over.
It isnt working for you and is the reason why you eat so many punches against Maidana. That defense isnt working for you, anyone else agree?
Been sayin this for a while, the Paulie fight just solidified my opinion. Broenrs reflexes are not quick neough and his handspeed is good but not special. With the shoulder roll you gota have quick reflexes and have enough handspeed to deliver counters, Broner does neither.
That wasn't the so called shoulder roll defense. It was the wide base lean straight back and eat shots defense. Broner needs a new team. Not likely to happen but standing in front of maidana with zero movement of the feet has to be the dumbest strategy ever employed.......Same shot hit broner all nightlong. All he does is stand there and lean straight back. He could get away with it if he ever would throw a punch but he just stands there and takes it. Recipe for the disaster we witnessed last night
Props to chino the man is a junkyard dog, but he is so easy to hit. Thurman hurts him. Especially to the body. Don't want a rematch, I want to see maidana v. thurman or porter
Naw he is what he is at this point it'd just be another insult to switch and admit he isn't Floyd, he really can't do anything else doesn't have the legs or reflexes to be elusive.
He needs to go fight weaker smaller guys and he'll be hyped up again.

He doesn't have fast enough feet and can't transition from defense to offense. I don't think you can really use that defense if your broner. I mean at times his shoulder roll looks like how James Toney uses it but often times he just looks like he shouldn't use it.

I definitely agree. He doesn't have the skill set nor the discipline to pull it off successfully
There are only 2 active fighters that can shoulder roll effectively, Mayweather and Toney. The only reason broner was getting away with it before was because he never fought anybody that could hurt him.
EVERY boxer rolls their shoulder (typically to slip a right hand). You guys are talking about the Philly Shell which is a specific stance that Broner is to stiff to be effective at.

Actually you can't say he is using something when he is fundamentally violating the principles that make that technique what it is. Its the same BS I hear when I coach MA guys on basic principles of Ju Jutsu technique.... Some guy says "that technique does not work" I then explain to them that the technique we are speaking about is in fact the same technique necessary to do what is being worked on. For example: To get a submission via armbar one has to know how to twerk the hips up, and pull back at the correct angle with the shoulder/arm base.
With Bronner it is the same: When using proper shoulder roll technique one must always be at an angle (usually around 45 degrees up to even a 90degree) to the punch. Watch Floyd. When he is rolling he is NEVER either squared up to the punch coming, or, directly 180 degrees to the side. This is because in order for the shoulder to create a false fighting line one has to be able to move it in line to divert the punch. Also when you counter from the shoulder roll you cannot move straight back to avoid return fire....it takes too long. Again watch Floyd as he angles back after hitting the opponent on the counter. This is why one weakness of the shoulder roll is that you have to set up for return fire...so a counter involving combos is hard to pull off.
Bronner is an idiot frankly...sorry just the truth. He tries to move from his back leg in a straight line thinking that the shoulder will catch the punches and it won't because you need to angle to intercept the punch! watch the first knockdown and you will see it.
So...don't blame the technical application for a stupid mistake....a very stupid mistake.:alcoholic
His shoulder roll is fine, even his head movement when he knows how to actually do it is fine.
But he doesn't use his feet to complement the defense. I think theres times where you can sit and block punches but theres other times where you have to move and use it. He just sits there and shakes his head , like wtf?
no, he uses it about as well as you can use it with no footwork and a stiff upperbody
he learns to duck a little more and get his footwork together so he isn't so easily side-stepped on, he'll have no problems with defence
his offense was seriously lacking in the maidana fight though, he only really started punching with force in the last couple of rounds, dont know if he was scared or what(probabley the early kd), but it took him awhile to grow the balls to commit to his punches
