It's obvious he won't be picking Canelo. His mind is set up on fighting in June. If he's picking Canelo, whose next fight is scheduled in March, they're supposed to be announcing it by this time.
He won like 2 rounds against Trout, Martinez is bigger, faster and have more power than Trout he can't win
And HOF for what? for losing all the big fights?
Says who? The guy with the Canelo avi? lol! GTFO with that BS. :bottle:
How do you know? Did they fight already? Boxing is the theater of the unexpected. ANYTHING can happen. Besides, Martinez is over-rated. Chavez lost the fight but got the glory for ending what was left of him. It will be a great fight. And by the way, Cotto can win. Have some respect for the future HOF'mer. Last time I checked, Martinez isn't going to the H.O.F.

It's gonna be Maravilla. Like I said from the beginning when everyone said it would be Canelo. Being Martinez does more for his ATG standing and his legacy then beating Canelo coming off getting undressed by Floyd.
don´t fool yourself, Cotto can´t beat Martinez
I could be wrong, but don't think he will win the lineal or Ring title at 160 if he beats Martinez. He will win Martinez's WBC 160 title only. You can not win the title if you are not ranked in the top 10 at the weight class.
For example, Mayweather only managed to win The Ring title from Canelo because he was #1 ranked by beating #1 ranked Cotto, and then beat the Champion Canelo.
So Cotto has to first beat a top 10 guy at 160, or just fight at 160 to be ranked top 10, and then maybe he could win the title but The Ring doesn't really explain that, it just explains who could win the vacant Ring title and how the champion can lose it.Martinez is considered the lineal champ by most fans and experts so if Cotto beats him he becomes the lineal champ even though Cotto is not the best at 154 and would get crushed by GGG in my opinion. Martinez will probably KO Cotto anyway and keep on ducking the guys he should be fighting. The Ring is just a magazine owned by De La Hoya and they don't have the final say on who is the lineal champ.
Stevenson became the lineal and RING champion after he stopped Dawson and he was unranked at LHW as I recall it.
You're right, Stevenson was coming up from 168.
Cotto-Canelo probably sells upwards of 600k.
Cotto-Martinez sells some where around 400k.
More PPV money=more PPV upside. So yeah, Cotto is getting paid regardless, but he'd get paid significantly more by fighting Canelo because of the money generated in PPV and gate revenue.
Stupid move IMO, he also has a better chance at beating Canelo.
the writing is on the wall. he was in macau AFTER meeting with golden boy. he's co-promoting a show i think this week with top rank. if he was fighting canelo it would already have been announced.
i would love to see either fight but cotto is taking less money and going after the middleweight title vs. fighting a guy coming off a shutout loss. props to him for that.
Gotta love Cotto he fights any and evdrybody. Wouldnt be the least bit surprised if he beats Maftinez then fights GGG and goes down swinging like a boss.
People give him so much shiiiit but hes never once stopped a megafight the fans wanted to see.

That is exactly the conversation we were having at work. If he beats Martinez, he will likely fight Floyd for the MW belt, or may go down swinging just to quiet the haters and fight GGG.
War Cotto!

Cotto is a terrible business man. Of course he's gong to pick Martinez.
Austin Trout after a loss?
Martinez?
This guy is worse than Winky Wright.
Martinez is a legacy fight against a popular guy. He can accomplish a gravy deal personally.
I say choosing to fight Canelo is a bad decision as a business. If GBP tried their best to rob Floyd, after he pitched a shutout, what chance does Cotto have at gettinga fair shake in Vegas? He'd have to Ko him, have multiple kd and maybe get a point deduction to earn a draw. That guy is getting 3 ppv in 2014, gbp will not let him lose

I'm pretty confident, that if Martinez or anyone losses in that ring, within the stated weight class they are the Ring champ, they lose their standing regardless. Doesn't make sense that they'd still be lineal and Ring champ if they lost in their weight class. Who cares if they met up.
Floyd won the title because Canelo was 2. Floyd best the #1 guy and took his spot. So when Floyd and Canelo fought, it was for the vacant Ring title. If Canelo already had the title and Floyd moved up to take it, then he takes it. I don't think it matters one bit. Wouldn't make any logical sense if it did. If Martinez loses to Cotto, he's no longer the man and Cotto becomes the lineal champ.
You may not personally recognize him, such as boliodogs up atop, and that's fine, but the line would have officially been passed to Cotto, in a historical sense.
I could be wrong, but I think it's the 2nd longest active lineal streak, so that's sorta cool
If he lost to Trout I really think Martinez will beat him. Still love Cotto doe.
canelo is gonna be his farewell fight.
lots of tears and emotions should be present that night.
Cotto will probably fight Martinez and if he wins he supposedly becomes the lineal middleweight champion. I won't accept him as the lineal middleweight champ because Martinez has become a ducking, dodging excuse of a champion. How can I take Cotto seriously as the lineal 160 pound champion when both welterweight Mayweather and Jr. Middleweight Trout clearly beat him not so long ago. To me GGG is the true champion and the best middleweight in the world. GGG will fight any middleweight that will sign the contract. If Martinez had been a fighting champion he would have already fought and lost to GGG. If Cotto wins it will just be a stunt for glory and he won't defend his new 160 title against GGG or any other top 4 middleweights.

GGG is so overrated in these forums it's not even funny. Put him in there with a slick boxer and he'll get exposed as one dimensional. A healthy Martinez would school him. As far as Cotto, the only chance he has against Martinez is if Martinez doesn't recover fully from his injuries. BTW, Martinez is the lineal champ and deserves it. To be the man, you've gotta beat the man.
