8/1 underdog, are you kidding me?
I like Kovalev a lot but I think this is potentially a risky fight.
Sillakh I think its fair to say he doesn't have the best chin in the world. Kovalevs chin hasn't really been tested and he was down against Boone in the 7th round.
I think Sillakh is a good fighter, a lot better than he gets credit for & lets be fair, he carries a hell of a punch himself.
I have no doubt he stops Campillo, I think he a bad match up for Cleverly too.
I could see Kovalev ploughing him but another part of me thinks Sillakh could potentially outbox & counter the hell out of Kovalev and dare I say it, potentially win.
I just can't shake feeling this is a risky fight & Sillakh is underrated because of his stoppage loss to Grachev.
Kovalev just annihilates people.
Sillakh is good, he's got an impressive amateur background and he did beat Despaigne (Who beat GGG in the amateurs).
But you can't prepare for this type of power.
Had I seen that gif of Sillakh getting wobbled by a grazing shot, I would've chosen Kovalev to KO him in the first round lol. I gave Sillakh too much credit by saying 5th round stoppage.
Good job. :lol1:
I already admitted I was dead wrong. And Damn, I did not see that grazing shot gif, that is a terrible chin. I knew it was bad but thought he would box like in round 1 for 12 rounds.
Dwyer is usually wrong.
Not really, it's just what people like to say. He picked Mundine over Mosley. He picks some things wrong, but a lot right too, if nothing else he is decent at analysing styles.
The odds might be a bit too wide but I'm fairly certain Kovalev will win by KO. I hate to say this because I've been following Ismayl for years and he has tons of talent, but he has a flaw that also hurt another favorite of mine Linares : a stationary upper body. Except that in Ismayl's case, it's combined with a low left hand which makes him extremely vulnerable to the straight right hand, Kovalev's best shot.
Add to that the fact that Ismayl took a lot of punishment in his KO loss and it may have done permanent damage, here's what happened earlier this year when he fought 7-2-1 Mitch Williams :

Getting wobbled by grazing blows is not a good sign going into a fight against one of the most dynamic and powerful offensive fighter in the sport right now. And I've seen Kovalev take big shots from Boone in the rematch without even flinching, he has a sturdy chin. The only question mark to me is whether or not he takes body shots well, and I know Ismayl can throw some mean body shots.
So my prediction right now is Kovalev by 5th round KO, as long as Ismayl gives it his all and goes out on his shield then I'll be happy.
We'll see. Kovalev is a very hard fighter to keep away, but you have to wonder what will happen if he's brought to the late rounds against someone. Not sure this is the fight where it happens.
Sillakh is a live underdog in this fight - it all depends if he learned from the Grachev fight. He got complacent in that fight because he seemed to be finding it so easy up to a point, when he got hit with a shot it was due to him relaxing just a little too much in the ring, thinking the fight was in the bag and a walkover. You could see him sort of grinning and enjoying himself too much. He should have learned to always respect his opponent for 12 rounds no matter how easily you might be beating them. Now if Sillakh sticks to his boxing and maintains complete respect for Kovalev over 12, he may well win on points, it's certainly not impossible.
Another scenario is that if Sillakh can outbox Kovalev for the first two thirds of the fight, Kovalev might himself start getting desperate and open himself up for some power shots - and Sillakh does have decent power, probably above average at least. So in my opinion Sillakh does have a chance to win on either points or by TKO, Kovalev is definitely the toughest fighter he's faced though and one good punch from him could completely change the fight.
Come on,Sillakh is a far better fighter then Cleverly,Cleverly is horrible.
Sillakh is better? Based on what? He fought one top 15 opponent and he was put on the canvas and stopped.
Cleverly, while not great, fairly defeated Bellew and beat Murat far more convincingly than Hopkins did.
For all this talk about how Sillakh is better than guys like Cleverly and Campillo, his results hardly support that.
Anybody who don`t see Sillakh as a live underdog is crazy.Sillakh is a very dangerous opponent whose faster and taller then Kovalev. And he arguably has the better skillset between the the 2.Plus both fighters can punch also. Its a 50/50 fight in my opinion,i`m slightly leaning towards Sillakh by a hair.People are focused too much on the ko of Sillakh in the Grachev fight in which Sillakh was winning till he got caught. It could have happened to anyone.I`m sure Sillakh learned from that fight.Remember Wladimir got ko`ed numerous times by tomato cans but still went on to beat good fighters and became the number one heavyweight.
Sillakh is also faster, taller, and more skilled than Grachev, but that didn't prevent him from being knocked out. On Saturday he will be fighting someone who is bigger than Grachev and significantly better.
Maybe Sillakh learned from the Grachev fight, but it's hard to tell since he's fought nothing but poor opponents since, not unlike what he did prior to the bout. As for the Wlad comparison, see my response to your other post.
