It sounds like HBO are trying to get Garcia and Gamboa in the same ring while Bob Arum is pushing Mikey Garcia-Juan Carlos Burgos match-up.
Gamboa-Garcia is clearly the more compelling match-up. I think if Gamboa has a decent training camp he could cause Garcia fits. Who you got and why?:boxing:
Gamboa kills the noise & reminds the nitpickers why he was once touted as the best prospect in boxing. His speed, angles, movement will cause that upright, robot to malfunction.
Garcia has done sweet F.A but beat bums & Gamboa's leftovers. Rocky 'E.T' Martinez, without a doubt one of the most garbage & fortunate world champions of the last decade.
Don't even know what the hype is about, he does the basics well, has decent power but that is about as far as it goes.Remember that there a lot more Mexicans than Cubans, and of course anyone with their heritage will KO any fighter from Cuba, I had being hearing the same $h1t for years now, my favor "this is professional boxing, not amateur" or "no headgear and smallest gloves", "they were fighting kids at the Olympics", blah blah blah, they forget that their first medal is won when they are still teenagers... They are not real fans, fanatics they are, lets see if he takes the fight he was talking crap last week calling out Gamboa, now he is calling out pacquio...

Lets see, Gamboa is been dropped (NEVER HURT) when losing focus do to completely dominating his opponent, he will get up for garcia (he wasn't ready to face Gamboa two years ago and he will never be) and either knock him out or school him to a very comfortably dec. my only worry is his trainer, but an Olympic champion, the lineal 126 champ when he was there, a lot faster than mikey, KO punch on both hands, ton of experience and coming from one of the best boxing school, I take my chances with him and if anyone like to bet, real bet let me know, I'm not going to be arguing with die hard fans that only see what they want to see, arum is avoiding Gamboa for mikey, just like two years ago his brother did and he was the mandatory for Gamboa, like I say when Rigondeaux fought donaire, le voy al mio...
It's on there I read that s**t last night. It's under Garcia can return Jan.25
Ah, yes. Thanks. Here are a few pertinent quotes from the blog by Rafael:
As for who Garcia (33-0, 28 KOs), 25, of Oxnard, Calif., will fight, Arum and HBO are talking. HBO would like to make a fight between Garcia and interim lightweight titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa, but that’s probably a pipe dream, thankfully.
Arum has no particular interest in making it, and I was glad to hear that. Gamboa is not a draw, his style has become very boring, he looked bad in his last fight against Darleys Perez, he has twice been arrested for domestic abuse of his ex-wife (including earlier this month) and the Miami resident was implicated in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal.
Add all that baggage to the fact that Gamboa has never been a ticket seller or a ratings draw but still commanded large purses and it makes no sense.
Arum’s take: “He is not deserving of fighting Garcia, who has a great image. Who needs a guy who has a second (arrest) for domestic abuse?”
Arum said the opponent he is looking at is contender Juan Carlos Burgos (30-1-2, 20 KOs), 25, of Mexico.
I'm not sure, Garcia has been dropped by lesser punches. If Gamboa came in shape I think he could win this. His raw athletic ability will be more than enough to pose serious problems for Garcia. I still don't think we have seen the best of Gamboa and I think if he faces a top opponent like Garcia he will dazzle.
Who has Garcia been dropped against?
Since the first Morales fight Garcia has dropped each opponent, Gamboa should be worried.
When did Rafael report that? I checked his blog back to mid-October. Nothing there. It's on there I read that s**t last night. It's under Garcia can return Jan.25
It`s not going to happen. Check fat dan`s blog. Arum said he didnt want to waste his time with that two time wife beater any more.

Are you sure that's the 1st line you wanna put out there to defend Gamboa?? I mean how many times has he been dropped by bums??
I don't see Gamboa winning this, his speed may shock Garcia but that's about it. Mikey is smart and calculates his punches, Gamboa has been wasting his time with bums and getting dropped by them.
How would he handle Garcia's power and accurate punching?
Hbo should push hard for Gamboa vs Garcia. That's a big fight, really want to see it and thinking Garcia takes it. Top rank should want to make that fight because realistically Gamboa is the biggest name at 130 or 135 that Garcia can fight. Good way to keep on building Mikey's name.
garcia knocks him out. gamboa makes too many mistakes which mikey would capitalize on, gamboas chin is shaky too. he has a punchers chance himself, with power and handspeed like that theres no way he couldnt. but before he could land with those t-rex arms of his theres a lot of ground to cover. mikey has such tremendous command of distance i dont see gamboa getting close too easily, at that point he gets frustrated, sloppy and put to sleep.
if bob's really goign to drop gamboa for the domestic violence thing we can definitely wish this fight goodbye and most likely gamboa's career at the top level
you may be right,,,, Gamboa is a tough fighter to handicap because there is so many unknowns about him still.
I favored Garcia because he is the more technically sound fighter of the 2, but i wont argue against someone that thinks gamboa may win.. His handspeed could bother garcia all night and gamboa may cruise to a decision..
I hope this fight gets made in the summer of 14
Yea, I think Garcia would be the favourite, I just have a sneaky suspicion that Gamboa wins it. It would at the very least be a serious test for Garcia.

There aren't many other options. Although I think Burgos beat Martinez, it was damn close and HBO aren't keen on Garcia cruising to another victory. HBO needs to start putting together competitive fights, they have sh1t loads of competition coming from Showtime.
If Arum was still promoting Gamboa, I'm sure his domestic issues wouldn't be a problem.
Gamboa-Garcia 2014, lets get it on:boxing:
First real test for Gamboa. If he wins, then his career would be revived in an instant. The rematch would follow, which would be bigger than the first.
