When I watched their first fight, I thought it was one hell of a match, which definitely needed a rematch. I was excited watching both of these guys and I knew they were both on their ways up. Even when Alvarado lost the first fight, I thought it was the perfect touch for him, to get him ready for the big leagues.
When the second fight came around and Alvarado won, I was extremely excited for a rubber match. These two guys were building a name off of each other, giving exciting fights, and obviously learning from each other. Instead, I feel like they both were fed to the sharks.
In the last month or so, we've seen Alvarado brutally finished by Provodinkov and Rios battered by Pacquiao. I like Pacquiao and Ruslan both and I'm glad they got jump starts to their careers, but I can't help but feel bad for Rios and Alvarado. These two guys are exciting young fighters who give their all to the sport and were on the rise. It felt like the jump in competition was just way too fast, almost as if TopRank was cashing out on them already.
The rate they're going is not conducive for their careers and their health. I feel terrible for them because their careers are being cut that much shorter for every war they participate in. There's protected fighters bred for stardom like Canelo, then there's the Brandon Rios's and Mike Alvarado's of the world. You can't help but feel bad, because they've more heart and take more risks than a lot of fighters out there.
Hindsight is 20/20.
It's easy to say you feel bad for them knowing the outcome. That's why they fight the fights though. If Alvarado would have beat Ruslan, he would be in the driver seat to face Cotto, Bradley, Pac or Marquez but he couldn't get past Ruslan. With that victory Ruslan has punched his ticket to put his name in the hat to fight one of the big dogs.
Brandon on the other hand was cashed out. He got a gift against Abril, didn't look great in his first showdown with Mike and got beat in the rematch. It was clear to Arum, that he would never be a PPV success due to his limited skill set and personality.
Well a little bit at first i felt bad but hey the moment they laced them gloves they know what theyre getting into. Pity is the last thing a warrior needs, its disrespectful to them.
Let's face it Rios is full of himself and still won't admit he
really got bested by Pac's skill. I feel a little sorry for him.
He is a brawler, more brawn than brains and unfortunately
his trainers and managers aren't doing him any favors. :boxing:
Also, Rios hasnt fought anyone on the level of Trout so how is Canelo protected compared to him?
Has Pacquiao's stock dipped so much that even Trout's on a completely different level now?
By the way, Rios has fought more contenders than Alvarez has.
the alvarado-provodnikov fight was a logical fight to make, but rios was basically offered as a sacrificial lamb to arum's cashcow pacquiao. at least he got paid well for it.
Rios just got a huge pay day and will be set for the rest of his life if he's smart. Hard to feel bad for him.
Yeah this. Wtf "thrown to the wolves"? Maybe but dude got a cool 4 MIL for his troubles. FOUR MILLION DOLLARS.
No, I don't feel bad for him. Alvarado is a little bit of a different story, but I still don't think he was thrown to the wolves. I mean maybe in hindsight but lets not forget that Provodnikov was a virtual unknown before the Bradley fight.
i feel worse for alvarado bc he didnt get the pay day rios got
alvarado/rios 3 coming up next! winner gets prov (rios), loser gets terrence crawford (rado). lol
pac/bradley 2 in april. side note, terrence crawford would beat mikey garcia on points.
yes i do. There was no need for immediate rematch. They will never again make money like now. Their careers have to be protected not shredded.
They are also a victim of HBO obsession with Gatti Ward. They simultaneously celebrate guys like Rios then call them punching bags when theyre done. Roy understands and tries to calm Max and Jim.
I disagree with just about everything you said. If you wanna feel bad for someone then feel bad for Mike. He won but still didnt get the Pac payday. You act like Rios got the short end of the stick. Every guy in boxing would give anything for a Pac or Floyd fight. Also, Rios hasnt fought anyone on the level of Trout so how is Canelo protected compared to him?
I also dont like the fact that you give these guys more credit just because they brawl alot. That dont make them any more dedicated or deserving than any other boxer. Stop being biased. Pure boxers put in all the work also. Just because they dont want to be callled punching bags doesnt mean they dont deserve there shine also.
Dont get mad at Arum for ruining there careers. Get mad at them for not learning defense more. It would definitely prolong it. Again, if you wanna get mad at Arum then do it for him being shady and not giving Mike the pay day. On the flip side, he did fight Provodinkov in his backyard so I wont cry for him much either
Lol poor Rios and Mike. One gets beat up by a Russian psycho and the other out boxed out classed and beat up by Congressmen Pacquiao.
I wish them both the best.
Arum definitely threw them to the wolves lol. I can't imagine rios being thrown right away to provodnikov bob will let it marinate.... don't risk Rios losing 3 fights in a row that'll shatter his confidence.
