This would be the Meldrick Taylor that showed up to fight Chavez in 1990 vs. The Manny Pacquiao that showed up to fight Ricky Hatton.
I actually think Taylor was just a bit quicker handspeed wise. Not by too much though.
This would be the fistic equivelant of a fireworks display.
This would be one of the most entertaining matchups I can imagine.
I think it would be very competitive and back and forth for about 6-7 rounds,..but Taylor would begin to lump up and swell up like he did with Chavez. Pacquiao has the power to do this. He would bring this to an end a little quicker than Chavez did..Because he would keep up with Taylor and punctuate exchanges with his superior power.
So I have Pacquiao TKO in rds 8-10.
"mel had that philly mentality"
That Philly mentality is why he would get KO'ed. No doubt in my mind. I loved Taylor but he wasn't smart enough to beat Manny. Furthermore, he got hit too much and would get crushed. Manny by KO.
exactly,, good post green k for you
Nope.

@ 140, which was mel's best weight, i think mel would be too much of a blur for pacquaio, real talk...mel had that philly mentality, didn't mind taking a punch, but also mel too many weapons at that weight, manny only had a straight left when he was fighting barrera, morales, and the early marquez fights...@ 140 mel didn't fold as fast against anyone that i can remember...i mean, dude did beat brazier, who was no pushover, and buddy mcghirt for a title...you see chavez needed 12 rounds of bodyshots and a little help from richard steele to deny mel on his finest night of boxing...real talk...
it was only when he moved up...couldn't carry his weight up against the bigger guys too good...so throw out what norris and espana was able to do to him @ 147 in that case...
now @ 147, different story...manny added on movement, a little versatility, and developed his right hand...plus he carried the speed and power up...mel wouldn't be able to deal with pacquaio then...
good to see people even bring up and mention meldrick taylor, that was definitely my dude years ago...
your an idiot,,, meldrick is pretty much a come forward fighter,, he would never get on his bike and box,,,, I watched meldricks whole career, and he was a great fighter to watch, but manny would ice him just like terry norris did,,,,,
meldrick doesnt have the ring generalship or defense to keep pac off him,,, meldrick had fast hands but he didnt possess one punch power, he had to overwhelm someone with his speed,,,
Manny would land all night on meldrick and he would get iced,,,
I honestly cant believe how anyone would pick meldrick over manny,,, unless they are black fighter nuthuggers,,,,,
any fan with common sense knows that meldrick would get ko'd in about 4 or 5 rounds by manny,,,,
manny has much better power and footwork, and he wouldnt be able to miss meldrick,,,
honestly,, if manny is able to land at will, he is stopping you, just like he did MAB, morales, hatton, cotto, oscar, etc,,,
you have to be a complete douche bag to think otherwise,,,
I dont try and bring race into any thread, but i guarantee your black and that you really DKSAB
You mean you're not black Sugar Adam Ali?
I didn't think you needed to go the race route to make your point. It's just a simple debate man. People chose different sides in a debate. I'm sure if OP expected everyone to pick Pacquiao he wouldn't have started the thread.
I guess if you happen to pick the black boxer you certainly have to be black and DKSAB.
I think the admins should put a category in each profile for race and make sure everyone check their race so Sugar Adam Ali doesn't have to guess who each nuthugger is...
Would be an extremely fun fight to watch considering the hand speed of both fighters. I have to agree with the majority of the posters on here and say that Pac would most likely knock him out sometime during the late rounds. Taylor had more balls for his own good and would go to war with Manny. That would lead to his downfall. I can hear the HBO announcers going crazy calling this one.
never thought about this fight, it would be great
these guys would go to war until somebody fell
gotta go with Pac, Taylor going after him would get him hurt
he's actually got the faster hands here, but Pac's got more power
see this tit for tat until the last 4 rds, Pac would get him then
Taylor was best as a mobile boxer but liked to fight
giving up his tactical edge gets him taken out late
Are some of you on crack? Man I have never in my life seen someone so overestimated as Pac. A prime Meldrick would school Manny's ass. Taylor beat the living **** brakes off of the legend JCC for what, 9 out of 12 rounds? And Pac no way could have beaten JCC in or near his prime. I see even after that cold ****ed KO you guys are still smoking that funny Manny grass. Someone please tell me one prime/elite boxer Manny clearly beat? An already past prime Morales beat Manny once. JMM in reality beat Manny 3 out of 4 times and fought him perfectly even in the 1st match. Bradley won a BS decision but Pac still looked mediocre at best. Can't anyone see the only people Manny looks so "devastating" against are come forward fighters like Hatton, Marg, Diaz? Why do you think they picked Rios lol. Any elite boxers with good speed are Manny's kryptonite period.
Meldrick via UD over Pac.

Meldrick via UD over Pac.
yeah but manny would lay him out before the judges could render a decision,,
manny and chavez both ATG but fight nothing alike,,, manny is a whirlwind that would splatter taylor in under 8
Manny wouldnt miss with the straight left,, think about it,, if manny can land at will he is stopping you, unless your jmm
he did it to hatton, barrera, morales, shane, etc
manny by ko all day
I actually think Pacquiao would have a hard time landing that straight left or any other punch against Taylor. Like I said, Taylor in his prime was extremely fast with his combos and his foot work. He would move in and out at blinding speed. I remember a few instances against Chavez he was in and out so fast Chavez was punching air. Unlike Taylor, Pacquiao is easily timed coming in. I don't think Taylor would KO Pacquiao so the question would be if Taylor lost focus (even for a minute) would he get caught. It would be competitive if Pacquiao started landing because there is always that chance of a KO. However, if Taylor can take his power, he would box circles around the Pacman.

And he looked terrible against the fastest and oldest one there. The fact Meldrick took the punshment he took from Chavez for so long was crazy. Meldrick wasnt a Malignaggi type of puncher and was noticeably faster than Pac in terms of letting his hands go. Manny is fast at puttng together powerful strings but Meldrick is faster in every way. Where does one get off thinking Pac wins because he beat a bunch of significantly slower mexicans. Pac was out oxed by Tim once tim decided he had enough ass whuppin . People need to stop acting like Pac has ever fought an beat a guy like Him. Hes literally the type of fighter people criticize we never seen him fight. This fights 50/50 for me as much as i like pac! Taylor looked GREAT pre Chavez. He took a slow and steady beating from an ATG. Chavez had better defense than Pac and also had nerves of steel. He could and would take a shot to land one if he had to. Pac CAN and has been pushed back or been put into defensive mode where he just retreats with his hands up when the person he hits doesnt retreat. Meldrick was no Zab judah he was a real fighter and though he had his faults his style is just too unlike the Mexicans he (Pac) excelled against.
If I was threatened to pick it'd be Pac but we never got to see him vs someone faster than he who was durable and can throw as much as him with the ability to box.
That being said if i was forced AGAIN to pick how Pac wins its be via KO as I dont think he could out throw or outland Taylor who could in essence bo a few rounds and win some quiet rounds.... If Meldrick takes his power he wins. If Chavez dont discourage you..no one does.
Taylor frustrated Chavez for 11 rounds, 2 minutes and 58 seconds in their first fight. That was a focused, pressuring, body snatching Chavez. Pacquiao has speed but a prime Taylor was extremely fast. Yes he lacked focus in the ring but I think he would be focused enough to frustrate the heck out of Pacquiao. If the fight went 12 rounds Taylor would win a wide UD decision. Pacquiao would have a good chance of getting a KO early but the longer the fight went the less chance he would have of stopping him.

speed kills but you gotta have some pop with that speed. Taylor does not h ave what Manny at his absolute best had. Plus Manny is a better defensive fighter and has 10x the footwork. Manny is an ATG, Taylor was once a very good fighter but nothing more.
Manny by KO/TKO in 7.
Meldrick was hittable too, he would move his head but still get hit, I've seen him get hit against slow plodding mexican boxers. Dude had speed but for some reason his reflexes were off from time to time, and he would mix it up but with his chin up.
Pac throws power combos, Meldrick had fast hands but he tended to throw shoe shine stuff.
exactly, spot on,,,
meldrick was a helluva fighter,,,
but manny would match his speed, and manny would ice him in the middle rounds,,,
taylor lacked ring generalship,, that is why he never reached a floyd, hopkins, SRL, hearns type level
