What is going on with this guy? I'm not a fan exactly but I thought he'd be a big, big star with tons of marketing and a big network behind him, in big fights. I almost never hear his name and when fights are mentioned they don't happen. Can someone give me the 411 on this? Talent, power, big backstory, some serious TV exposure, and an undefeated record. Why isn't this guy on fire right now? Why isn't this guy bigger than somebody like Khan or Matthysse? I don't understand it. Did he have something go seriously wrong that I haven't heard about with his health or his promoter or something? It seems like everything is there to make a big star.
had floyd and 50 not split up , gamboa would've been the 5th fighter to have been associated with peds out of their 10 fighters ..thats half...:lol1:...
Dude just keeps ducking fighters. He ducked rios, mikey, crawford.
Hes gotta step up.Stop thinking hes sum type of star. Stop with ^ BS, mickey duck him when he was the Champ at 126 and he used rios fight as a leverage to cancel his contract, wrong? Maybe but not a ducker and I'm sure that if mikeys fight is offered he would jump at it, and I'll be real money with you, if you are willing of course.
Whoa so he's been tossed around between Arum, Oner and 50 cent? He's still with 50 or nobody now? He got linked to PED's too? Damn. I honestly didn't hear any of that that I can remember. Thanks for the responses, guys. That is a big shame. I think he'd have ripped Lopez's head off at the time that was the big fight.
I think Gamboa is the biggest waste of talent we have seen in awhile. He was a beast. Thats sad I really believed he could take over boxing once Money and Pac retires. Oh well I guess I was wrong.
Ever since the PED center scandal (google Gamboa linked to PED scandal for more cent info on the subject), he has looked average compared to the beast he was. He was a machine back in 07-08 and not because of the opposition he faced, based on his skillset alone. He used to move like a machine and throw blazing fast combinations... now he looks slower, tires out faster, some of the flash is still there but not quite the same.
He was pissed about not getting the big money Juanma fight, along with Oner and Arum taking large cuts of his money and took a chance on moving promoter. Ultimately Floyd and 50 have ruined what he had going and he's in the middle of nowhere atm. Seemed like a solid decision at the time, but he will now regret not staying put, boxing Rios' ears off and being in a great spot.
It's very unfortunate seing your favourite fighter go from a mini-wrecking machine to an inactive fighter bouncing around the wrong weight divisions.
Yep, that pretty much covers it.
What a waste of a career. Whatever's left is quickly dissipating. I've been frustrated before; but, as time goes on, the frustration lessens. Yuri did it all to himself. I wish the guy well, but he's gonna regret his decisions.
In what world did signing with 50 cent look like a good idea at the time? 50 paid a lot for him too, top rank was more than happy to hand him over.
Gamboa had it good with top rank, pretty easy fights, good paycheck from HBO, and a so kid future. Now he has nothing and no one, if 50 isn't paying top rank, he isn't fighting.
Signing with Mayweather seemed like a decent idea, it was Floyd who put the whole thing in his mind...he just got left out in the cold and was stuck with 50.
He was losing most of his money with Top Rank, he had multiple parties taking large chunks of his money, which is why he wanted out. Not to mention Top Rank kept the big money fight away from him trying to keep the Juanma cash rolling in.

This idiot left one of the two best promotional companies in then world for 50 cent. Smh

Yeah its sad
As a Gamboa fan who has been there from the beginning the word stupid is what comes to mind when it comes to his career he was on his way right up until that hip hop mentality bullsh*t fkd his career up. He got caught up and let Mayweather miss lead him just to spite Arum he was just a stupid fking pawn now he cant get a fight worth a sh*t . I mean I get it he was being fked out of all his money but at least wait til you can get rid off Oner and do it the right way sh*tTTTT :banghead:

It looks like he's going nowhere now. He should have stayed at 126 but Arum screwed him over with the JuanMa fight. What he done with Rios is plain stupid though
