Cuz that dude is Gangsta.... GGGG
After a couple rounds, Gennady showed no respect for Stevens' power.
This dude is the modern day Middleweight version of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
And you gotta love those post fight interviews...
Sergio Martinez gets KO'd in 8. Cotto in 4. Quillen would be a good fight for as long as he can stay on his feet, but he'll eventually get stopped.
When Martinez had 2 good knees he was still getting hit by everyone. Even Jr dropped him and he didn't throw punches for 10 rounds, GGG has literally triple the workrate and is better at cutting off the ring, putting punches together and has a superior ring IQ. Chavez didn't even apply much pressure and Martinez broke down, GGG will break him down by 10 rounds.
I don't agree with that, imo the guy lost in his back yard to Murray after almost getting stopped by Chavez. While still No.1 he's living on rep a little bit right now.
I don't see him having GG chasing shadows either, given Golovkin is one of the best in the sport at cutting off the ring. We're not talking about a flat-footed plodder, Golovkin's footwork is expert.
It's a good fight, but Martinez is the underdog at this point imo.
Edit: just to add, he does get hit but his chin is sound and Stevens is probably the biggest puncher he'll face
The Murray fight is debatable, I believe Murray gave away the championship rounds and the fact that Murray never spoke up after the bout, like he did against Sturm, goes to show he knows he lost too.
The Chavez fight seems to be a negative with you, considering Martinez dominated every second of every round barring the last minute of the last round. Martinez was so good in that fight he had Chavez looking like a fool and for all his irresponsible behaviour and weight problems, this is the same Chavez who had beaten Zbik, Lee and Rubio, all of whom were top fighters. In fact, that version of Chavez had better opposition than the current Golovkin.
All in all, we will only know where Martinez is, post-injury, AFTER his next bout, who ever that may be against. If Martinez looks like the guy who stopped Williams, beat up Pavlik, made Chavez look like a boy and stopped both Murray and Barker, then for my money, Martinez will beat Golovkin every day of the week.
If Martinez is far short of his best then Golovkin has a great shot at beating him and may even go into the fight as a betting favourite. But until you beat the man, you can not be labeled the best.
Give Sergio two good knees and GGG has issues. Golovkin had the height and the reach over Stevens and he was still getting hit with decent shots. Martinez would have the reach over Golovkin and use distance well plus he would hit Golovkin and get away before Golovkin knew what hit him.
The dude is like a Frankenstein or something....semi-robotic with his movements, slow, super powerful and he has the frame of a LHW instead of a MW.
Martinez and Golovkin both have 24' reach from the armpit which is the same as Kessler. Martinez was consitantly getting hit by Murray/Barker/Macklin and all of them have a much lower workrate and rather basic predictable offense compared to Golovkin. Murray/Barker also had no problem cutting off the ring to keep him in punching range which is something Golovkin is much better at along his steady pressure.

Everybody gets hit. Martinez gets hit plenty as well, and doesn't take the shots as well. His balance isn't nearly as good as GGG either. I can see GGG jabs knocking Martinez around.

Even before that when he was still considered prime his fight against Barker was even through the first 10 rounds and Macklin for 8.
He looked stunned in there a couple of times imo he showed he is no invincible machine but if you let him go at you he will destroy you, i don't think anybody in his division has the defense/ movement /power combination that would be required to beat him .
GGG is great for boxing. I think he's proof that the boxing game is alive and well. I don't really know who could compete with this guy but I don't think Quillen would fair well after he feels GGG power, he'd be backpedaling all night and he's not great fighting backwards.
Martinez is a league above everyone else in the division, unless he has not fully recovered from his injuries and the Murray fight was indicative of his future.

Don't be in such a rush to name GGG the heir apparent to one of the most important titles in boxing. Martinez is not done yet, yes he had a poor showing against Murray but he was, at the time, still recovering from a severe knee injury. Martinez is barely a year removed from giving Chavez Jr, at the time the second best middleweight on the planet, a boxing lesson.
I like Golovkin, good character, very good power and some good all round skills but his defence was shown to be leaky last night, as it had been against previous opponents in Rosado, who also managed to catch him with some sweet counters. Golovkin did what he had to against a much smaller opponent who was never a top level fighter. In fact, a 5'7'' Stevens managed to back the much bigger Golovkin up at several points in the bout and the champion looked almost mortal on the back foot.
Martinez is a league above everyone else in the division, unless he has not fully recovered from his injuries and the Murray fight was indicative of his future. If he can retain his form and class of the last 4-5 years I believe he can outbox Golovkin and have the hard hitting Kazakh chasing shadows all night.
Don't get me wrong, Golovkin is still the best of the rest and I can't see the other champions beating him, especially not with Barker's physical frailties and Quillen's boxing limitations. Murray is the best opponent for Golovkin in a non-Martinez scenario but what ever happens, if this current crop of middleweights decide to engage with one another, we have the makings of a classic division.
