While I may not agree with his "excitement" "action" agenda, I agree with you 100%.
HBO has 8 of the top 10 p4p fighters on its network (floyd, danny garcia on sho). they can have a huge 2014.
I agree, I'm all for having all out-action fights/brawls.... but I hope there isn't so much emphasis on having two guys duke it out like Prov-Bradley, Rios/Alvarado, etc, that guys like Rigo get shunned/pressured to change their style or they will get blackballed, etc. As long as they put the best fights possible - whether that means two highly regarded guys who you know are going to slug it out (prov, etc) or best fight possible as in two highly regarded guys who aren't going to slug it out (boxers) but are top class fighters (rigo, etc) I'm okay with it.
Rigo's got a fight and the showcased Crawford, etc, so I'm hopeful HBO isn't just going to go in a "all action" direction, I think a lot of people have just been spoiled with the KO's and such because a lot of the new HBO signing (while being good boxers) have just so happened to have devastating power (Golovkin, Adonis, Kovalev) I read a recent interview with SI and Hersh said he's just interested in the best possible fights (surely he knew Wlad wasn't going to slug it out with Povetkin?) so I'll hold him to that and hope he doesn't just mean best fights possible as in AKA only all out brawls, etc.
I will say the one thing HBO is doing now that I like is being open to bringing fighters over from lesser-known promoters and matching their big promoter- Top Rank, with out-of-house opponents (provodnikov, etc) We've seen a ton of different promoters on HBO this year- Thats the ONE thing I wish Showtime would do some more of, but I don't really see it.
Showtime is doing great as well and I must say I've never been a big fan of Greenburg, but they're putting on great in-house fights with GBP and it seems a lot of Showtime undercards have been better then most HBO undercards this year. I wish they would be open to working with other promoters but the "cold war" as much as it sucks and there's ridiculous fights that could be made if they worked together, has been good in regards to match making- both sides are putting on great shows due to the competition/pressure to outdo the other one.
Both networks have ton's of good fights to be made next year and 2014 will even top 2013, IMO.
Good numbers.
The Marquez vs. Bradley replay certainly helped, there was a lot of competition on Television that night. Plus that UFC ppv that nobody bought.
i streamed that sh1t...next month is the PAC fight...but before then GGG...gonna be a great monthYeah. On those fight nights you can eat a 6 foot sub, a blue whale fish sandwich, and a whole pig all by yourself right fat boy? #Slob
So in the last 4 weeks HBO and Top Rank has put out bangers
JCC Jr. vs Vera 1.146 million (highest of the year)
Cotto vs Delvin 1.555 million (new record)
JMM vs Bradley PPV
Prov vs Alvarado 1.2 million
Last 4 weeks for SHO, GBP

you mean you arent excited for BHop/Murat?!?!?!?!?!?!? It'll do amazing #'s, lmao
OK regardless if it is Showtime or HBO the Ratings are usually at around 1 Million or Close to it sadly that number hasn't grown over the year which means we have the same damn boxing Audience and the Audience is not growing enough
Foreman vs Shannon Briggs did 14 Million viewers back in the day, Prince Naseem Debut on HBO against Kevin Kelly did 10 Million so these current numbers of barely getting 1 Million or slightly over in all honesty....IS NOTHING! That goes for HBO, Showtime and both Promotions! Your numbers are not growing and that should be somewhat of a concern!
Hershman has done a fantastic job at HBO. Next year will be a great year for both Showtime and HBO. Tons of good fights can be made.

HBO has done a masterful job of setting up the 4th quarter with a fight almost every week. This is what Herschman did with SHo and its working better now because there are 8-9 mil more HBO subscribers than SHo.
Hopefully next year both networks expand their boxing budget and give us more great fights.

There are plenty of streams available for the rare SHO fight thats worth it (Figueroa, Soto Karass)
If you only buy SHO for boxing than you just got screwed out of $10 bucks.
Strong poverty. If $10 seems like a lot, then you shouldn't even be on this board, you should be lookin' for a 2nd job.
I'm just trying to figure out how mike got 13k people to show up lol
13k? Wow I thought it was like 6k? But I was pleasantly surprised as well, that crowd was loud and rocking and they got behind their boy.
Dan Rafael @danrafaelespn 1h
According to Nielsen, Sat's @HBOboxing Alvarado-Provodnikov main event drew 1.2M viewers, same Alvarado-Rios 2 in March.(more) #boxing

That number for #AlvaradoProvodnikov makes it the 9th best cable #boxing audience of year.
all roads lead to mile high.

#tumbleweedsi guess when manny retires and bob dies you'll stop watching boxing lol. Fake ass fan. Showtime killed over the summer and huge ppv. Anything to do with Floyd automatically sucks to you
Exciting fighter and a good bloke coming off two FOTY contenders. Can't be that hard to figure out surely?
He seems like the B side tho. I don't think the rios fights sold that well and mike doesn't get a whole lot of support on the Internet from what I've seen
1.2 is a good number. I tuned in to watch the Bradley replay since I didn't get to watch the PPV. But I stayed tuned in because I knew I would be entertained.
I remember when ratings was never a point of discussion.
Boxing fans are now primarily gossip queen posers.
I remember when rating were 3.0 , now everything over 1 million is good
