By natural weight class i mean cutting 5 pounds or less, or coming in on fight night and gaining 5 or less pounds. (We will of course exclude the Heavyweights)
The only ones i can think of are Pac, Marquez, Mayweather and Cunninham (when he was a Crusier)
Who else?
Its not natural for him. Martinez is always having to shed over 20 lbs with each fight. 30 day weigh ins, he still has 15 lbs or more to shed! He successfully makes weight, like many fighters, but he has to drain himself quite a bit and work really hard because 160 lbs is not natural for him.
I question your information here, I've never seen Martinez either miss weight or look drained.. All his fights at at 160 he's been in great shape but has body fat.. Except for pavlik fight but he came in light at that and was still for all intents and purposes a junior middle
It's funny how people complain about fighters not fighting in their weight class, but no one has a list with more than 6 fighters.
Well yeah, that's the point though innit? The ideal would be everyone fighting in their class. The current system virtually encourages fighters to stress their bodies to extremes (likely causing longer term health problems) in order to gain a slight edge.
Personally I'm in favour of same-day (even pre-fight) weigh ins. But if you must continue previous day weigh-ins, perhaps a standard clause that makes fighters rehydrating up to above the next higher weight class ineligible for eliminators or title fights.
Froch's always the first guy I think of, though for some reason I always thought that Kessler fought heavier. Most of the others are guys who started off lower but had enough talent to move up (ie they fought themselves up to their 'natural' weight). Rigo, I guess, maybe there's some of the others at the low weights, but it's certainly the exception rather than the rule.
They of course would and did when there actually were same day weigh ins.
Fighters are always straddling the line between optimal weight and dangerously unhealthy.
What time were same day weigh in held?
You know this discussion might be relevant to the boxing world if there were same day weigh ins.
There are not.
Are you saying that fighters still wouldn't come in 7-10 pounds lighter on fight night to avoid a weight class they're not ready for?
The reason i ask is because i was "traumatized" by my father.
I was a wrestler in middle school and the family went out to dinner and I said i was just going to have soup because i was trying to get to a lower weight class and my dad said "Oh isn't that cute your not going to eat because you want to beat up smaller boys"
So all thru my am boxing and wrestling I NEVER cut weight so I have a little more respect for fighters who fight in their natural weight class.
Your dad has a point, it's common though and some take it to extreme measures like Angulo entering the ring at 173 against Lara.
Sergio has been known to show up the night of the fight weighing as little as 165 and weigh-in at 157 w/ no problem. If you want to see drained middleweights you should have seen what Pavlik (178) and Chavez (185) weighed fight night against Sergio.
He's also been known to come to the ring at 170 lbs and be over that on 30 day weigh ins.
You always seem to conviently forget that.
their is a difference between getting lazy between fights and letting yourself go and ballooning up after the weigh in. serigo comes into the ring at around 165
Martinez has come to the ring at 170 on multiple occasions though.
That doesn't match the criteria for the thread.
No they lose weight to get to their optimal fighting weight (natural weight) they then drain water weight to make the limit and put it back on for the fight.
Correct.
"Natural" weight = optimal weight.
When you are already in shape, dropping 15 lbs in less than 30 days, more like 21, is draining. You can claim it's not all you want though. :lol1:

No. But I won't say more. Many times, the draining process begins much earlier, within 30 days, or 21. Before the weigh in day. Not even the week of. And its the things they do that are specifically related to it, but its just never talked about.

Very few throwback fighters today. That's the thing.
You think that's all they do to get the weight off? Smh. I won't even say more about the things these boxers do.

No it's not draining, draining is losing water weight for a weigh in and then putting it back on for the fight. Working hard and losing weight is not draining.

I don't need to claim anything, it is what it is, the clue's in the name "draining". :lol1:
That sounds like false reports. Like reports saying Canelo was walking around 157, that was even reported by his camp. Then when 30 day weigh in happens, we find out he's about 167 lbs. :lol1:
Same with Martinez. When a guy is in training camp and after a month he's consistently over 175 lbs for weigh ins, he is far from being a natural 160 pounder.
When he fought Allan Green at LHW, he was 169, so it's real.
Again learn the difference between losing weight and draining, i just posted it for you.
