Before you start dumping on me, think about, who is Wilder fighting???? he doesn't look like he's stepping up any time soon. Might as well have a name on your resume ar rhis point. Albeit an old, washed up jibberish speaking name. The conference would be fun plus we get to see if he can ko Toney. That would be a site
For some reason I don't see Toney getting sparked out like that. All that I'm saying is that he can at least have a name under his belt. His comp hasn't been the best as of yet and doesn't look like he will be stepping up soon. Plus Toney is willing to do it. I'm not making it out to look like some type of PPV FOTY bout.
Have you seen Toney lately? He's beyond done. He's a level past shot. He can't even move. Wilder would obliterate him. Wouldn't get rounds, wouldn't struggle, and would only make us all depressed afterwards.
I think Toney beats him, would bet all of my meager points on it.
But it isn't that bad of an idea from Wilder's camp. Wilder needs rounds, and Toney has an ATG chin and as this thread shows many don't think he poses a threat. Wilder gets rounds under his belt against a slick defensive fighter who isn't going to get blasted inside of 3 rounds.
Beating an eons past prime, shot, fat out-of-shape James Toney does nothing to further Wilder's career at this point. Also, no sane boxing fan wants to see Toney get sparked out like Liahovich did against Wilder

That's lose - lose for Wilder he wins people will just say he's beating shot fighters and he would get no credibility criticism worse than Garcia fighting Morales and Judah. And if he loses he loses to a shot James Toney either way not a good look
Is it really that much worse then the comp he's been facing and the comp he will likely be facing in the near future? Like someone stated, he can at least get some rounds in. At this age, TYoney would probably be he's toughest competition to date.

Fat Toney will Butterbean him
Wilder would beat the hell out of Toney and recieve nothing but negative criticism for it. Toney is totally washed up and somewhat punchy. A win over Toney no longer has any real value and it would make Wilder look like even more of a shot picker than he already looks like. Wilder seems to have lots of promise but he needs to fight someone in the top 10 heavyweight ranks and Toney shouldn't even be ranked in the top 50.
