Who tries to outjab and outsmart Mayweather? Canelo started in the 8 round to press hard Maweather, and the last two rounds Money didnt even try to win those because he was HURT. If Canelo begins to put really pressure in mayweather in round 3, he could have knocked him out, but he tried to outbox May and now he looks dumb.
There never was a game plan, he did the same thing he does in all his fights, Saul tries to impose his power and has been getting so much praise cause of it that he actually thinks that's all he needed.
It seems to me, that Floyd is so adept at using angles and controlling distance for both defensive and offensive purposes that fighters in front of him give up and become inactive.
Truth is that even if a professional fighter was to figure this out and try to prepare for it he would still be a a disadvantage because it would be to late, tradition dictates that fighter learn the craft by focusing on traditional concepts of boxing where Floyd's style is never even encouraged.
Maybe that should change.
I hope Floyd wins out the rest of his contract and then gyms, coaches and fighter may start to value the skills he has.
Here is my wish list for his next fights:
Cotto
Kahn
Martinez
Pacquiao
LOL i said it from the beginning that canelo DOES NOT have the style to trouble floyd.......**** was obvious......
canelo was a GBP/WBC hype job....and he losses against lara next...
His initial plan early was jab coming in and then work the body, but every time he even thought of going to the body Mayweather countered it. He couldn't get in on Mayweather's at all like they were planning so he spent the whole fight basically idling. Late in the fight Alvarez became gun shy because his jab and combinations were getting countered so much.
That's the thing about Mayweather - not only does he make fighter's miss, he can make them hesitate to throw because of the constant counters.
It was a masterclass from Mayweather. From Alvarez's point of view, I thought he was very flat on his feet and didn't have enough variation in his attacks. Still a very young man with a great future ahead as he keeps learning.

Thank you...it amazes me how people act like Canelo should have just rushed him...anytime he tried he got smacked with straight rights and peppered with jabs...only time he got in is when floyd took time off...even then he didn't land anything significant.

yeah, thats where you kinda lose all your credibility...
Floyd gave Canelo a half dozen different looks. He squared up, put the shoulder forward, sometimes he countered sometimes he pressed. Led with the jab, then led with the straight. Canelo couldn't adjust, he was correct to try and jab his way in but damnit if Floyd doesn't make you pay damn near every time you make a mistake.
Yes Canelo might not be a pressure fighter, but if he wants to be adaptable, and a all rounder he needed to make the 10lbs or so count.
Canelo might have underated boxing ability but tonight was not the night to really show that off. You are up against Floyd who you wont outbox, cos Floyd doesn't try entertaining a crowd.
no, canelo is a boxer puncher and that's who he's always been. If he fights aggresive, which is not his style of boxing, he would've been punished even worse.
