Hugely disappointed with Mathysse but I'm impressed with Garcia. I can remember watching Garcia for the first time against Holt. I didn't know this guy was going to be top boxer!
Do you think there should be a rematch? I think it might be different if Matthysee eyes didn't swelled.
Lucas has apparently confirmed to Argentine media that a rematch is already being discussed. Not sure if that is both camps, but with Al Haymon and GBP involved.......money talks.
There is absolutely no need for a rematch. Danny neutralized Lucas well. I dont see Lucas doing anything differently in a rematch, he was trying to hit a home run the entire night...and now that we've seen Danny take a bomb to the chin there is no drama left.
Danny has plenty of other compelling scraps ahead of him. Lucas can rebuild and maybe they meet at 147 down the road.
It was a close fight, no matter how people attempt to dress it up, and Garcia won.
It's strange how there was a huge clamour for Garcia to rematch Khan, even though he smashed Khan to bits in 4 rounds, yet people are screaming no rematch after closely fought 12 rounds between Garcia and Matthysse.
What exactly are people scared of......
That's not really true. Khan fans wanted a rematch badly, but not anyone else.

Losing decisively doesn't entitle you to an immediate rematch, I'm afraid. Matthysse tried his best, worked hard, but he just wasn't good enough. He needs to re-establish himself as the top contender before a rematch is warranted.
Mares just lost decisively and it looks like people aren't *****ing about that rematch getting maid. He already established himself as a top contender, he just lost to the champ, IMO that doesn't diminish is place at 140. Behind Garcia Matthysse is the best 140 in the world. Who would he have to beat? Judah again, Postol, Lundy?
The eye was a huge factor and it was still close. I think that warrants a rematch. Why not, unless Garcia gets Mayweather next which won't probably happen its the biggest fight for both of them and the most money.
Yes there should be a rematch and I will be all for it. It was a very hotly contested bout and was even until the seventh round, when Matthysse suffered that right eye injury. Also, I credit Garcia for throwing him off his game by forcing him to fight his kind of fight. Matthysse fought the wrong fight strategically. Instead of putting his punches together he was often loading up on single power punches which backfired because it played right into Danny Garcia's hands. He has a very good chin and landing single shots at a time is not the way to go with a man who is naturally larger and stronger than you. The only way Matty was going to win that fight was by forcing Danny into a very fast-paced slug fest type brawl. However, Danny frustrated him by often tying him up when he got too close and by getting his punches off first, by constantly keeping Lucas on the outside with different angles and movement. Moreover, it would be very interesting to see how the fight will pan out with a different referee officiating it. Lucas needs a referee who is going to let him fight inside and not allow all the excessive clinching. That was the major reason why he was constantly getting hit low because he couldn't fight on the inside.
Danny wasn't deliberately going low. When he went to the body Matthysse kept grabbing his head and pulling him down. Tony Weeks acknowledged this, and warned both guys accordingly.
Would love to see a rematch, I feel the eye swelling played a major part but it came from a punch so I take nothing away from Garcia there.
Would love a rematch and this time with a referee who isn't going to allow over 100 clinches & near 30 lowblows. I didn't think that was a knockdown either.
Take nothing away from Danny he got the job done and showed a lot he hasn't before. He looked world class for once. No, we don't need a rematch and why wasn't the knockdown a knockdown. Did you see the fight? The replay confirmed that it was a clear knockdown.
would still pick Lucas to win in a rematch
the eye hindered him, but it was from punches, no beef with that
only taint on the win was the low blows going on in the fight
ref shoulda shut that shit down, it looked bad
He took a point away from Garcia. I think the reason for the low blows was because Garcia was going for the body. Anyway, Matthysse didn't complain or say anything so it is what it is. Garcia has Matthysse's number. He took his best and gave more.
I wouldn't call the low blows shameless because the majority of them happened because Lucas was pulling Danny's head down. The last one was legit and he lost a point for that. Th first one was as well and Danny was warned. I don't think any of them were intentional. It was a very good fight.
This. Lucas did this constantly.

no ****in rematch. Matthysse lost. It wasn't close, it wasn't controversial. Danny is better and will always beat Lucas.
If Lucas wins some big fights and gets back to the tp than sure. Maybe at 147 in a year or 2, should danny need a comebecak fight like Nonito is doing with Vic.
I'm tired of needless rematches being made. Give some new fighter a chance. Lucas can beat a Hank Lundy level guy than we'll see.

you dont have to be winning a fight to land a punch, and garcia was fortunate to land a punch that just about closed lucas's eye, because right before that swelling he seemed to be getting a little discouraged
My Point is. Garcia was the one who messed Matthysse eye up and gave him the edge. Doesn't matter if Matthysse had a better eye or not. Garcia did that to him and won the fight. No what ifs or could have been. Garcia puffed his eye up due to connecting effectively. I always find it funny to read "If it wasn't for the eye Matthysse would have won" B.S. because Garcia was the reason for the eye getting like that.
How did that swelling happen? How many times did Matthysse pull Garcia's head down? Damn you guys are salty. Almost as salty as Pacquiao fans.

close ass fight, and i'd wager that if not for the freak swelling, matthysse would have taken it, when that swelling came up for about 3 rounds he couldn't see and really didn't throw anything, just tried to get himself closer and closer to get past the wide hook of garcia(that he couldn't see anymore), but whenever he got to where he felt safe he got held
also garcia should never have been allowed so many clinches and lowblows
it took a vicious ko like lowblow to finally get a point deduction, and it should have never gotten to that with how many he was throwing

Agree with this. However, that is all a part of boxing/bad decisions/dirty fighting etc.
I felt bad for Matthysse, even though i believed Garcia did enough to win. The swelling made it difficult to reflect his true presence in the ring.
The fight was turning into a proper slugfest prior to Matthysse's eye..
Garcia won though (dirty fighting/decision whatever the reason). End of!
