shnit I won money on Tyson douglas I was in highschool and I did not think he would win but I put $10 up against my friends $250 I thought who knows might get lucky he only paid me $100 but I was happy with that I was one broke ass kid and $100 went a long ways to making me a drug addict
Man, it is embarrassing to compare the loss an Icon like Tyson to the loss of a local good boxer like Mayweather !
You should compare Mayweather to loss of other local superstar like DLH , Chavez Sr. , SRL , ...... And anyone not named Ali or Tyson
Even Klitschko(s) , who are the most popular Today, are many levels below Tyson
What the actual ****? What type of question is this?
There isn't one single thing that is similar.
Canelo is an undefeated, unified champion, in his prime facing a smaller, past his peak fighter 13 years his senior.
Douglas was none of those. He had been knocked out and lost numerous times, had never won a title and was facing the lineal, undisputed champion at his peak, if not his best.
i canelo wins it will be on the 2nd page of almost every sports page in the world.
when tyson lost to buster it was on the front page of every newspaper in the world.
see the difference?
I was 8 when Tyson lost and the one thing i remember was him on the front page on the paper on his knees looking for his mouth piece
Funny thing is,,,
People say canelo too young and green to be in the ring with floyd
yet at 23 tyson was getting ko'd by douglas and had already destroyed everyone and unified the belts and been the man for a few years....
another example of how canelo isnt the next big thing,,, good fighter, but the next big thing would have destroyed hatton rhodes, gomez, shane, trout,,,,
like how tyson destroyed everyone at heavy
floyd destroyed genara and manfredy
oscar destroyed jeff mayweather in his 5th fight, and also beat up genaro, leija, ruelas
The next big thing always looks dominant on the way up,,, canelo hasnt showed that dominance like other great fighters did early in their careers
amazing aint it

This topic should not have even been created and is a waste of time. One look at the odds for tonight's fight and a Wikipedia on Tyson/Douglas would show this is not even remotely close.
Hell no,not even close..Tyson was in his early 20's fighting "just another contender" Floyd is 36 moving up to fight a 23 year old who is #1 in his division
This fight wouldn't even be considered much of an upset. You have a 42-0 kid who is massive with a big punch fighting a 36 year old. Guys gets old overnight. Mares losing was a bigger upset then this would be.
Well, at least one person did. Buster Douglas. He wasn't beaten before he even entered the ring. And his self-belief mattered, and ultimately helped shape the result.
Same self-belief helped Holyfield beat Tyson when no one gave him a chance in heck to get anything other than KTFO.
Tbh, I don't think Douglas thought he'd win to begin with. He had just had the loss of his mother as far as I can remember and was determined to put up a show.
Obviously his confidence grew through the fight, but after the KD etc he didn't look that confident to me.
Except for Tim May, he saw it coming.
True that. Forgot about him.
No it wouldn't- First off, Floyd is not perceived as the unbeatable superman that Tyson was.
People thought that if God himself came down to fight, Tyson would still knock him out in a couple of rounds. People today are not even sure if Floyd could beat Pacquiao.
There's no comparison really, Floyd is getting older and people are talking about his age. Tyson was in his absolute prime when he lost and no one, I repeat no one, saw it coming.
Except for Tim May, he saw it coming.
