With Floyd Mayweather at the absolute pinnacle of our sport for a good 6-7 years now, he's been around for far longer, true.. but he IS the main man as far as boxing goes now and his whole style is based on technical skills and defence.
Much like after Barcelona's dominance in football since 2009, will everyone try and copy Floyd and his defence? You could argue that Broner is already one of the many to follow.
Not at all,
but there will be fighters emulating Floyd's style or persona, it's already happening.
Berto probably thought that a philly shell and shoulder roll would make him better and cooler. And he got beaten (by Guerrero) while trying to emulate Mayweather.
Broner instead is "recilying" the "Money May" persona, and already managed to annoy half of the boxing fans in the world. He also uses a philly shell, but not in the way Floyd does.
It's always been so, SRL did the Ali-shuffle a few times, Holmes tried to "dance" like Ali , failing.
Mike Tyson used to help his opponents up like his idol Dempsey and had the same haircut. Ali himself emulated SRR at the beginning of his carreer.

Yes, they'll have chromium alloy legs, leaden feet and "Steel Hammers" in their "Iron Fists". The Klitschko brothers have already shown them the way.
Their minds won't change, they'll still consist of sawdust with a little heavy timber to keep their ears apart.. And as an extra modern touch, their ears will be streamlined to look like bat-wings, even occasionally flapping....
I can just see them now........
there will be plenty of brandon rios' of the world but the more technical guys will remain top p4p
"Technical guys" are only top p4p because they cherry pick slow opponents. When's the last time you've seen two techical boxers actually face each other? It never happens because they'd look like crap against fellow technicians.
Hahaha ... no way
Believe me most guys would love to fight with a style that they just dont get hit but not everybody its so talented.
There will always be fighters that win with "cojones" more than skill.
No. Maybe American boxers will be more technical, but I still think styles will always very. You're always gonna have your boxers, boxer-punchers, sluggers, etc. It will be interesting to see what the style of the new "face" of boxing will be once Mayweather hangs them up, though.

That's real ****. You could be the perfect fighter and still be disrespected by fans who don't appreciate your skill.
Regardless, there's room for all styles and all types of fighters. The best will rise to the top./QUOTE]
This right here ^^
Boxing will always have diverse styles. Not everyone can be slick fighters like Floyd and Rigo. Not everyone can be pressure fighters like GGG and Matthysse.

You can choose to be technical minded all you want, but if you don't have the proper attributes to execute in the ring, you won't have a long career. Everyone fights to their strengths. Some are brutes, some are polished. Some are in between. All that matters is, can you make your style work better than your opponent can?
Co-sign, boxing would be certified f a g g o t r y if we are only stuck with the Floyd and Rigo types..
Give me a Manny Pac, Tommy Hearns, Tito Trinidad, Eric Morales, Chavez Jr over any of those aforementioned fools...
You meant Chavez Sr. Right ?
god i hope not...
