He says his dream is to become number 1 P4P.
Well I feel he is easily 2-3...now some people might might Marquez, Pacquiao and etc in that grouping.
But to me it's clear he's on his way. Dude is the LINEAL, Undisputed MW champ of the world, the most dominant MW champ since Roy Jones Jr.
Has not taking any EASY fights, "maybe not the most popular"
And he is more active than some of the YOUNGER guys...IE Gamboa, Russell and Andre Ward all while being much older.
So is response to the other thread regarding "If May losses who is P4P number 1" it's clear It's Marvilla Martinez.
Ok, the fight ment nothing. But before that fight he was feared now he considered easy pickings by some fans who say he ain't the same. After the Chavez Jr. fight people don't have the same opinon of him as they did before the Jr. fight but yes, Jr. had nothing to do with it. Fighters are always the same after a tough fight.
He beat the mess out of a guy weighing around 185-190 while he weighed 167. His opponent had a height and reach advantage as well and still got dominated for 11.5 rounds.
His next fight, he fights outside in a rain storm which prohibits his movement, he breaks his hand in round 3, and he entered the fight with a knee injury against a top 5 MW. A healthy Martinez KO's Murray....and he will come back healthy this time so no excuses when he demolishes his next opponent.
Jr didn't do shyt! Sergio is simply aging and been injured, but thanks for thelaugh

TheFck "the most dominan MW champ since roy jones j.r" are you never heard a guy name HOPKINS???
He also has gone downhill at a crazy rate, if not maybe and thats a big MAYBE he could have been #1 but as of now no way and i only see it going down from here on out age catching up with him.
Its safe to say Jr. may have diminished Martinez.

He's Argentinian, not many website groupies. He's soft spoken. He's near Floyds weight class any mention of Martinez is off the record, when a true threat is near Floyd than pretend the threat isn't even there.

I absolutely love what Sergio did to the Suliaman favored daddy's boy (Chavez Jr) and I think he is a quality fighter. That said, I (like most others) thought he lost to Murray and that's his only fight in the last year. P4P #1? No, not even top 5
P4P #1 fighters don't need gift decisions against relatively unknown fighters.
Exactly. Imagine if Floyd fought a Martin Murray caliber opponent and got a gift decision? LOL
in which universe is martinez a more dominant MW champ than hopkins? BHop cleaned out the division and reigned for years. martinez is strugglin more and more each defense including what should have been a loss in his last fight and he isnt even fighting the two toughest guys out there.
he was p4p top4 at one point, but he deserves to fall in the rankings following his recent outings and the fact that he isnt fighting the most dangerous emerging threats to his throne
The BEST MW of All-time was .....Marvin Hagler, period. He fought better competition than all the rest and whooped 'em.
BHOP is an ATG..no debating that...but his wins over his generation of MW was terrible. He beat an excellent Tito,a WW in ODLH,and got embarrassed by RJJ.BHOP was genius by making Pavlik fight at 170 lbs and Oscar at 156 lbs.
Sergio has wins over legit top P4P fighters like Pavlik and Paul Williams.
With that being said...Sergio would have beat BHOP,handidly IMO.:boxing::boxing:
Martinez shouldn't be P4P #1 pretty much for what everybody else said. And no, he didn't beat Murray. At best it's a draw and even that would be a slight robbery. He got credit for coming from behind to beat C and D fighters, but P4P #1s should be rolling over much lesser competition not hanging on for dear life. Even hyped up prospects beat the heck out of the people they're supposed to beat. I actually think he has skills, he's just inconsistent with it.

I include Williams and Margerito sp) as two of his better bouts also. If its at 147 or 154 to me its all the same, the junior division are a bunch of BS!
I don't discount losses the way fans do, for me Leonards loss to Duran is his defining moment in his career and that fight set him up to succeed and become a better fighter. Same for Sergio, Pavlik wasn't the same fighter and although thats not on Sergio the fact remains he won.
The whole p4p thing gets absurd at times.
Why does there have to be one all the time?
Why in the world is there more than one?
Since when is second and third that important?
The bottom line is that Sergio is at the end, the last bout showed that.
To me when he refused to stop Junior in their bout I knew this guy had something to hide. Whe you have a fighter finished or the ref ready to step in you get it done. Sergio is good but in with the best of the division all time he gets hammered. Imagine him in there with Monzon or LaMotta? Jake would take his boxing shoes off and put on tennis shoes (sneakers of the era) HA!!
I'm not sure that Sergio can handle solid power either, he's on the run for more reasons other than defense. Ray
I like Martinez but I scored it 115-112 Murray, did I have my British goggles on? Possibly but it was a very close fight that could have went either way. Not a robbery by any means but I do think Murray deserved it and that thought is only heightened by the fact that the referee inexplicably missed the second knockdown. Can anyone explain that decision to me because I cannot see what the referee was seeing there? Martinez did fall over Murray's foot/leg in the first knockdown but he also got hit flush on the face with I think a right cross whilst leaning back. It was a legit knockdown.
I had Sergio winning 114-113. The difference in the fight was the KD that was not scored. :boxing::boxing::boxing:
he lost his last fight and he refuses to fight the #1 guy in his division. GTFO!
pretty much nailed it

No you didn't, on a poll they did over there 72% of Argentines thought Murray won.

Sergio is # 3 P4P right now on my list until proven otherwise. He will of course have some serious competition from Bradley/JMM winner. :boxing::boxing::boxing:
Hi best wins and opponents were at WW years ago. The guy runs away and uses the excuse that its boxing! No, its running!!!
He has talents and is well coordinated and well schooled at what he does but he had Junior ready to go in their bout and just kept running away!
To me he's a good boxer who never takes chances since he became a middleweight. He's never fought a great fighter or a p4p best so to rank him as one is tuff to do. To evaluate him on his own style and form with techniques I'd say he's a technician that would rather not engage, rather stay away and try to out point his opponents. If his opponent doesn't press him the fight will be a bore, he simply isn't an exciting fighter on his own.
Ray
His 2 best wins were at MW. Remember he moved up from SWW to step in for Pavlik vs PWill. Then fought Pavlik and PWill back to back and got himself ranked p4p top 5. Since then he's been semi cherrypicking
