Despite Floyd having a deep resume, especially in the name department, his resume as a whole lacks that one great win that elevates his status. He's already an ATG in his own right, but in order for him to truly get into the top 50 and establish himself there he needs prime wins.
At the moment I would say his top wins are: Castillo, Corrales, Hatton and Cotto probably. In no particular order.
Canelo is, other than Floyd himself, the closest thing you can come to a certified champion at 154.
Would he be Floyd's best win and why?
Up there with Corrales and Castillo. But are those two worthy of HOF accolades?
Floyd still hasn't met his Barrera, Morales, and Marquez. He beat Cotto but we all know how far faded Cotto was that version Floyd fought. Don't even mention Oscar.
To sum it up, Floyd hasn't beat anyone that matters yet.
if he beats canelo, its a win that could become great with time,or just stay avg.in no order
hatton, corralles, castillo, marquez,de la hoya, judah, cotto, hernandez, mosley are all better wins at the moment
No they are not.
Can't be serious about what exactly? Nobody forced you to post in this thread.
Canelo is a world champion in his prime, undefeated. Mayweather has only taken 2 '0's in his career. He's got a lot of good wins, but not many great wins.
So I think it's legitimate question, and Canelo will be up in his top wins if he beats him.
Can't be serious about the question. Taken 2 "0s" in his career? That's how you guage opponents/resumes? There is way more context to a resume/career than an undefeated opponent, there is so much that goes into scrutinizing that undefeated record in the first place, and that goes both ways. It's a silly question in my book. Mayweather doesn't have great wins? Your opinion. I actually share it, for the most part, however, he still has great names, and an undefeated record. Floyd is far from the legendary status his knob slobbers put him at, but if Canelo is even close to his biggest win, Floyd would be a borderline HOF, if that, way too many knowledgable people I know in person in the boxing world today consider him a special fighter (for our era) and the best in the sport by a good margin, we could all be wrong, and be overrating, him, but I doubt that's the case. Why do I mention that? Because for one, polls and or opinions on NSB are skewed with the large amount of trolls and idiot fans, therefore what may be a majority opinion here, very rarely reflects a majority opinion in the actual boxing community as a whole.
In short, I completely disagree, I think it's not only an invalid question, but a ridiculous one. I don't think anyone Floyd could realistically fight anymore for his last 4 fights would be noteworthy unless he fought Manny.
Martinez, GGG, Matthysse, Canelo, all these people Floyds biggest haters want to see him fight because they actually think he will lose to them, none of them are "huge wins" for Floyd, in the grand scheme of things. People just want to see him lose by any means and are desperate. People are so enraged and blinded by his alleged ducks ( I only truly believe he ducked Margarito, no one else- Manny not fighting him is a product of both of their camps tactics) and his style, that they fail to realize the astronomical skill/talent/work ethic difference between him and everyone else. It's hard to take an accurate stance on something when you are so heavily biased and can't apply proper context when measuring fighters and skill.

A large determining factor of this question is what Alvarez goes on to do in his career.
On September 15th, when the fight is over, no he will not. Maybe eventually, but not then.
I just want to see a ko from Floyd his last "real" ko was Hatton. Tired of him not going for the ko, while he is great to watch him KO'n Canelo I would say yes with the exception of the catch weight.
Of course not. You can't be serious.

It will be another great win against another prime young fighter coming off their best win of their career and like the others, one in which posters were claiming Floyd was scared of and was ducking. Must be tough being a Floyd hater and getting proven wrong time after time.
I think it would be his best win although he has many very good wins. For a small welterweight who is 36 years old to beat a big 154 pounder who is 23 and a good undefeated champion would be very impressive to me. I bet on Canelo. It's too bad Floyd insisted on the 152 pound limit. It will take some of the shine off his win if he wins.
In the All Accesses they say it was Alvarez's camp that offered the catch weight? I don't think the weight is a big issue. Mayweather will probably come in 150-151 and Alvarez will just hope not to go over 160.
The hard part about all this is that I like Alvarez. I don't think he should have taken this fight. At least not this early. For Mayweather it's the right time, he has much to gain and even if he loses, hes retiring after 4 more fights anyway so whats it really matter for him? As where Alvarez is still very young and yeah if he loses he may be able to bounce back but if he wins where does he go after beating Mayweather? No one is as famous AND/OR as good.

No. Time will tell how good Canelo proves to be, but as of right now, in terms of accomplishments and resume, he doesn't rank very highly in comparison to some of Floyd's previous opponents.
itll probably be one of those fights that will look better with age. If Canelo can truly become the star people think he's destined to be than yea. The fact that a 36 year old 148 lb floyd mayweather who just fought at 147 5 months prior beat a 170+ lb Canelo and gave him his first L will hold a great weight in the future. Not his best win tho imo. But to the casuals hell yea.

I wouldn't say his best win but it would be a very good win for him. I also think the win would appreciate over time. However, the catch weight will undoubtedly take some luster off of it even though it probably won't affect Canelo much. The fact that Floyd is 36 and taking on a bigger, younger champion makes the win noteworthy.
