The reason why Oscar and Cotto were effective with the jab is because both step in with it, Canelo doesn't do that. And Canelo squares up at times when he throws the jab and that could be his downfall against Floyd, if he loses to Floyd.
Canelo is relatively untested,,, and has yet to face legit 154 guys besides the light hitting trout......
honestly i think canelo is the next lucien bute,, all hyped up till he fights another top guy likie froch....
I think oscar makes canelo look like the mayorga fight.....
Bute sucked, no one wanted to see that he didn't posses a jab, a right hook, his right hand was practically useless, he only used it as a range finder and he was a one trick pony with that counter left uppercut or left to the body. Glen Johnson exposed how one dimensional Bute is. Canelo is the real deal in my opinion, but I think he needs to move up after this.

I don't know why people put so much stock into Oscar's performance against Floyd. Oscar was one foot into retirement when he fought Floyd and Canelo is a faster, stronger, harder hitting, fresher fighter than Oscar at that point. I think Canelo beats that Oscar IMO. Trout to me was a tougher fight than Oscar was to Floyd. All that's ever brought up in the Oscar vs Mayweather fight was how Oscar used his jab. He didn't dominate any rounds and or land anything solid. Cotto beat Floyd up waaay more yet Oscar gets a split decision?

Canelo a better puncher than Oscar? No, and Oscar even at that stage had better foot speed than Canelo does right now. A better jab as well. The reason why Oscar and Cotto were effective with the jab is because both step in with it, Canelo doesn't do that.
The best scenario I can see for Canelo is if it turned out something like the Vargas encounter. Oscar may have trouble with Canelo's strength and power early on but he would outlast him and possibly stop him late.
Prime De La Hoya puts a beatdown on the current version of Canelo, imo.

Voted a bit quick but yeah, even the aged version of Oscar in the ring with Floyd would whoop Canelo. Oscar had his own problems with a 12 round fight but he had mad heart, a great chin and could fight when the heat was turned up. He would pound on Canelo and may be stop him late.
The only reason why Floyd beat Oscar is because of age. PERIOD. He had 8 rounds in him that night and through 8 rounds, it was an even fight or Oscar was ahead a round.

Doesn't make sense.
It would have made more sense to say 154lb version of Oscar who was trained by Floyd senior. That Oscar would stop Canelo. The only reason why Floyd beat Oscar is because of age. PERIOD. He had 8 rounds in him that night and through 8 rounds, it was an even fight or Oscar was ahead a round. The 154 pound Oscar trained by Sr had a really good run and could move, dance, roll with punches, and flat out jab your face to hell. On top of that, he was BIG, fast, and strong. His left-hook could drop a light-heavy so, Oscar wins and fairly easily.
I voted for Canelo. Oscar was good but I have faith in Canelo. Canelo has two handed punching power while Oscar did not hit very hard with his right.Canelo is a more natural 154 pounder. I like Canelo's hand speed and rapid fire accurate combinations to the head and body. If Canelo does not defeat Mayweather then I would re think the outcome of a Canelo-Oscar fight but for now I'll go with Canelo.
oh..............
Voted before I saw which version of Oscar we were talking about.
However, I'd probably still go with Oscar. He was good enough for the Mayweather fight but didn't move as well as he used to.
Prime Oscar would have Mayorga'd Canelo (and yes I know Oscar wasn't prime for that fight).
