Its a great fight , and really gives a look at contrasting styles , very similar to how Floyd beats Manny also , brilliant gifted boxers like Whitaker and Floyd will box Mannys ears off.
I agree and never understood why Floyd never fought manny he would have won and his credibility would not have takin the hit it did
does whitaker got a good chin?
Whitaker had a great chin despite what people think some say he had no chin some say it never got tested both are wrong he was an aggressive defensive fighter who would throw a whole lot of punches he got hit because you can't throw 80 punches a round and not get hit I only saw him wobbled bad once by Mayweather and it took an uppercut when he was on his knees that almost stood him back up to do it
What would Wilfredo Rivera or Hurtado think? Check out his fight with Jorge Paez for some amazing defence by Jorge Paez, only man that I know of to make Whitiker look clueless at times and that never happened much in his early career (but I only got to see his career in the later stages the 90's on).
He had gotten soft by the time he fought the first 2 and as far as Paez goes I agree with part of what you say in that Paez gave him as good of fight as he had in his prime but didn't even come close to making him look clueless he tore Paez up after he figured him out and won most of the early round while he was figuring him out if anything it was Whitaker trying out a new style of fighting that made him look at all awkward he pulvirized Paez to the body all fight and used the uppercut to perfection
Pacquiao couldn't hit Bradley when he was doing the funky chicken...so Whitaker would be a nightmare. But when would Whitaker hit him...since he'll be break dancing all night????
late in his career Whitaker was not fast enough to slip multiple punches and counter like early in his career later it was one or the other He would absolutly punish manny after about round 3 the first three would be close then the fun would start for sweet pea its just the way he fought the better the opponent the longer it took him to get going and figure the guy out but once he did he cruised I give manny 3 rounds tops

Whitaker vs Nelson , go watch it .
Oh dear, reloaded. Nelson and Pac are alike, are they? What an absolutely crap comparison. You have come out with some absolute howlers and this one is up there.
Go watch it? I think you should......just take floyd's nuts out of your eye sockets first!

I looked at your first comment and thought wow 8,000+ posts and zero credibility now I understand. Ok let me break this down for you.
1. Manny hasn't ducked any fighters with pernell's skill level because bar floyd I don't think anyone is that close in this era.
2. Pernell isn't a mayweather atg level fighter, it's actually the other way around floyd wishes he was as good as pernell.
3. Manny didn't get outboxed by Bradley if you think so I would recommend suicide.
4. Yes he did struggle with Marquez but that is the clash of styles, and btw it took him 3 attempts to get to manny.
5. Floyd toyed with Marquez? I don'tunderstand how this relates. A. Triangle theories don't work and B. again the style match up was the issue and if I want to not be controversial I won't mention the catch weight.
6. I don't think they are complete fighters Robinson was a complete fighter. Not atg pernell and cherry picker floyd.
So there you go I broke it down for you hope you enjoy the lesson. Jheez I feel like rigo educating an absolute moron.
Good stuff, /thread
Pernal would counter his head off , Manny has never seen this kind of skill , he has ducked anyone near it his whole career LOL , Pernal is a Mayweather ATG level fighter , Bradley out boxed Manny and he will be schooled with a Whitaker or Mayweather , JMM boxes life and death and KTFO , Floyd toyed with Marquez and so would Whitaker , they are flat out too stylistic skillful and complete , Manny will not beat this class of boxer in their prime , no fcking way José .

best assessment I've read on this thread. Manny and Whitaker are well matched, it's a 50/50 for both guys. Whitaker had that insane upper body movement and would frustrate an aggressive fighter like Manny, kinda like what he did to Oscar...but it wasn't enough to win rounds. I know Whitaker was better at 140 then the version Oscar fought at 147 and he would trade with Manny more but nothing Whitaker throws can back Manny up.
Mnany would come in, throw his combos, miss some punches, move back out, Whitaker would paw with his own punches and then the process would be repeated for 12 rounds. I really can't call it, I can see both guys getting a close decision.

He was very good but I wouldn't call him a genius. He was blessed with very quick reflexes and supple joints. I'd call Nicolino Locche a genius and they were rare. For many of his top opponents he was not all that difficult to hit, especially to thr body. He had however an advsntage over defensive boxers in that he had a good attack and could punch. This side of his game hase often been overlooked. I'd expect in a matchup with MannyP at, say lightweight or 140 lbs it would be pretty even with him avoiding Pacquiao's right hook but not avoiding his straight left to the body. pacquiao would be very fast and also not easy to hit with his in and out herky-jerky movements and footwork. Whitaker's footwork was of a completely different type.
I don't know who'd win, I believe that it would be close whoever it would have been.

Whitaker, pretty handily too. The kid was a genius in there. He could stand and trade, or simply evade. Whatever he wanted to do in there, he did.
