I think Buster Douglas, Andrew Golota, Zab Judah, Chad Dawson and Naseem Hamed because with their talent and athleticism they could have achieved more. Who do you guys think are biggest underachievers?
dawson has one of the best resumes of his era, an off night against pascal and getting caught by stevenson are his only L's at the weight while holding multiple big wins over top guys. he beat just about every top 175lber of his time.
he beat tarver and johnson when they were both top light heavys, twice each. he is the only fighter other than RJJ to truly and clearly beat hopkins. only fighter other than vitali to beat adamek, doing so easily i might add. also beat solid guys like diaconu and harding in one sided fashion.
dawson ruled the division for three years straight, he didnt do it cherry picking his opponents either. he fought and beat all the top guys.
dawson achieved plenty, you ppl just dont give him enough credit for it. but he will achieve a lot more in the future so you will get your chance.
I think they are saying that he could have been really great. There are times that you wonder why DAwson is being so passive. Sometimes it feels like the fire isn't there. I still think he's very good but I wish he would show more emotions.

Good list; but I think Riddick Bowe should be added to that....and I would personally remove Chad Dawson. I think he did all he could do.
Other notables: Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Yup, I know what you're thinking; but I would point out for a variety of reasons, as big of a mark as each made on the sport......it coulda been so much bigger in each case.
Ray....the missing years between 1982 and 1987
Roy....the missing fights: Nunn, Benn, McClellan, Eubank, & Michelcheski (sp)
Mike....the prison years and coulda been matches: Bowe, Holyfield in 91, Lewis in 92/93, Moorer, Mercer, etc
Mayweather....the missing fights: Cotto two years before it happened, Paul Williams, Mosely...2 yeasrs before it happened or more, Margaritto, and .....some other guy whose name escapes me.
Tyson is the biggest for sure
prime Tyson staying on track is one of boxing's greatest "what ifs"
he's been overrated so much, he's actually become underrated
and that's because his potential>>>what he actually did with it
in recent memory, it might be Guzman
how can this guy not control his fucking weight?
Victor Ortiz. He comes off a mayweather fight to get his jaw broken by then unheralded josesito lopez. Considering thats all he's done with that launchpad opportunity I'd say he didn't reach expectations. He had the look of a fighter with all the tools but just can't put them all together.

Tony Ayala and Ike Ibeabuchi.
Fighters have flaws just like everyone else. People are calling multi-division champions "underachievers". That's absurd. What are you expecting these guys to be absolute perfect fighters because of their physical skills????
People like to throw Zab's name on all of these lists'. Zab was a terrific fighter with a not so hot chin and lacking focus during fights. What did you guys expect him to be? Undefeated and the black De La Hoya?
And Vargas? Someone said Feroz. Feroz accomplished alot before his body started breaking down. Certain things happen that don't make you an underachiever.
I'm not even going to start in on Chad Dawson because for anyone to think he underachieved is just crazy.
You want underachieving? Think Panchito Bojado & Ricardo Williams. Guys whose career never amounted to much when they had the potential.

When I think of underachieving I think of guys that didn't train as hard as they should have..these 2 are always on the top of the list.
Zab Judah
James Toney
chris arreola. terrific chin, good power, decent boxing skills. fat, lazy.
jorge linares. terrific boxer. if all you had to do was shadowbox this guy wouldnt' lose.
andre dirrell. very fast hands, good / very good power, solid boxing skills.
yuri gamboa. probably past his prime due to his age. squandred his prime in the amateurs. aging little man who was once the fastest fighter in boxing. has the type of power that you don't see.
chad dawson. i know it's hard to say that a guy who won the LHW title several times is an underachiever, but he had talent to be one of the greats, and he never lived up to it because he couldn't let his hands go. now he's all done.
This is the supposed 'underachiever' that's been brought up multiple times in this thread whose consideration I disagree with most. How do you come to the conclusion that Dawson had the talent to "be one of the greats"? In my book, guys with that kind of potential don't lose to Jean Pascal or notably struggle with a 40 year old Glen Johnson.
Seems like a lot of people around here have been insinuating that Dawson some kind of unique talent who was unfortunately ruined by Ward ever since that fight, whereas I never saw anything particularly special about the guy prior to that.

Douglas, Tua, Ibeabuchi, Chavez Jr.
Judging him by who his father is he definitely underachieved. Being honest though he's not that skilled and is living off his last name and in a way has overachieved . Can anyone think of another atg boxer to have a son more accomplished than Chavez? and i say that knowing that jr is not an elite fighter or even a great fighter.
