I predicted Matthysse to beat Garcia and the fight is still going. But everyone who said that Lucas would beat Mayweather is an idiot. Just by watching Lucas struggle against Garcia is enough to know that Floyd will OWN Lucas.
I'm as big a Matthysse fan as you're likely to find on this forum, but I don't see him coming anywhere even remotely close to beating Mayweather unless Floyd slows down dramatically over the next year or so. That said, this is the best fight to be made for Mayweather post-Alvarez. Especially after Matthysse stops Garcia on Floyd's undercard next month.
If he completely jumped on him and risked everything he'd have a chance, but I don't think he'd win...
Mayweather on points!
Nah, his best chance would be to concede the rounds, because he's not going to land more clean punches in a round than Mayweather, and go to the body, go to the body, go to the body, trying to wear Mayweather down. That's his chance, and it's tough to see him successfully doing it unless Mayweather loses a step.
Lucas is awesome, but Floyd would toy with him. A pure counter puncher will eat him alive. Even little Soto was getting to him at times.
Lucas will always have success with guys who have defensive issues, but Floyd is on another level compared to anyone defensively. Matthysse fights so hard, but for anyone to beat floyd, they will need to have another dynamic. They will need nearly the complete package themselves, and Matthysse, for all his pluses, Still Lacks Defense and only really knows one mode, attack
Like somebody else said before. Matthysse would make Floyd look like a god.
When will you guys learn that power and 'intelligent' pressure won't beat Floyd?
Intelligent pressure has worked in the past. What are fighters supposed to do, sit in front of him and box? How has that worked for anyone that fights Floyd?

I highly doubt it, but I'm keeping an open mind to the possibility Mayweather slows enough by next year to make the chance of that Matthysse knockout shot more possible.
Another guy that will be dominated by Floyd and Floyd will be discredited post fight like always.
This. The response will be that Floyd beat a wild brawler who was beating taxi cab drivers.
Then the fans will say he's ducking whoever the most hot popular name is at the moment.
But do some of you really believe that Lucas Matthysse would beat Mayweather?
No. Maybe like 3 or 4 years from now when Mayweather's reaction time slows down big time.
There's a little too much Matthysse hype around these parts, we all need to calm down a little me thinks. See how Garcia goes then put him in with some real talent.
We had this same conversation a few months ago. Back then the name was Peterson instead of Garcia. Lucas was going to get exposed, but then he trashed Peterson like a rag doll, and Peterson is better than Garcia.
He already ran over the IBF 140 champ as is he wasnt even there, after KO Garcia, what "real talent" would that be left to beat? After Garcia he has to fight Floyd.
Matthysse just isn't a threat to Floyd. He wouldn't get near him.
Right. Because master Cherrypicker just levitates above mere men. Bum azz Ortiz had Floyd against the ropes and was mauling him at will, you're saying Matthysse, being a more power puncher, smarter, more accuate and overal better boxer cant to the same or better? 50/50 fight, and if I had to bet I'd bet on Lucas. Lucas is exactly the kind of boxer Floyd has always ducked.
We're talking about Cherrypicker being the GOAT and what not, and he's fighting bum after bum. He ends up fighting a 23 year old all green and slow as a snail. GTFO!
he would have a shot. He's mentally tough, and he knows what he needs to do to win. The other thing is that Mayweather can be a dirty fighter, which Matthysse will not let slide. He'll start hitting him with some stiff rabbit punches in retaliating to Floyd s infamous elbow roll. I'd still favor Mayweather, but Lucas will force Mayweather into his A+ game.
Matthysse is unreal, but i think it's only a matter of time before he gets out-boxed, and it won't be by anyone near Floyd's level. I think there's a few boxers out there who'd have a decent chance, and i think Floyd would lightly punch him in the face all night long without getting hit.

I think he'll always be an exciting fighter though and there's always going to be someone to feed to Matthysse that'll make a good watch.
