Burns turned down what would have been the biggest payday of his career to fight Broner. The whole Miguel Vasquez fiasco happened after that.
He did, but he also only had 7 weeks until the fight.
However whether or not he fought Broner shouldn't impact upon what Burns has actually achieved.
And then the second so called duck is an even worse use of the word, considering Burns was going to unify against Vazquez but promotional disputes got in the way, put Burns out of action for months on end, the fight fell through and Burns had to go back to fighting mandatories. In that same span of time, Broner moved up for a payday against Malignaggi and looks like he'll be campaigning at 140-147 now.

I had it 115-113 for Cleverly. As I said, close but in the end Bellew didn't do enough to dethrone the champ. And I know he had some weight issues leading up to the fight so I give him a little rest for that.
Mate, I'm from Liverpool born and bred. There's nothing I'd like more than to see a scouser win a world title. I'm just being honest, I don't think he won. But I was hoping he would do it,
115-113 is fair enough, I just think it's a fight that could have gone either.
And, if Bellew is to fight Stevens next, as long as he keeps away from his power, Bellew should be able to box his way to a UD.
Don't blame ya to be honest. McDonnell has been handled poorly but hopefully he gets better promoted now he is a world champ.
Yeah, McDonnel isn't getting a huge push but then again, he hasn;t got the explosive style to make a big splash in the general public. What he needs is big name opponents, the better his resume gets, the bigger he'll get.
Tbf he is in a very good division with plenty of legitimate champions for him to face plus with his height he could easily grow to lightweight, fighting various name opponents along the way.
Burns found a way to avoid Broner twice, in two different weight classes. I can't respect that.
As for Khan he is indeed looking worse but I wouldn't put it all on Hunter. He had issues when he was with Roach too.
I still don't but into the whole ducking Broner story. Burns the first time round had outgrown the 130lb division a couple fights before his final fight at the weight and stories that he was struggling to make the weight had been around for a while, long before Broner got a big push in the US.

And in terms of Khan, he never looked like he would get hurt by every single punch thrown as he did against his last opponent. Roach knew Khan's weaknesses but built on his strength but Hunter is trying to rebuild an aggressive speed demon into a thoughtful boxer, it just won't happen.
Before that fight I thought Bellew was a limited scrapper and Clev would box circles round him but Bellew turned things on around and out jabbed and out boxed Clev on the outside. It was a VERY close fight, imo, the fairest decision would have been a draw.
The 117-112 card by one of the judges was atrocious, that was a fight with a round or 2 of difference for the winner. The crowd, a lot of the press and even Clev himself knew that he hadn't had it all his own way and it could easily have been a fight scored for Clev.
But that's besides the point, you may dislike Bellew, that's your opinion, but outside of Hopkins, Pascal, Dawson, Clev and Cloud, Bellew is the light heavy out there. That's not an opinion, it's just fact.

Let's be honest here mate. Bellew did not win against Cleverly. It was close, but he lost.

Genuinely just forgot lol but like I said, I could have listed even more people. Boxing is on a high in this country over the last 20 years or so and long may it continue.

Burns was trying to wipe away ring rust but agreed with the Khan assessment, he has looked worse in both his outings ever since he got with Hunter.

Bellew has fought the best available guys at 175, I think he squeezed a win against Cleverly and Chilemba is a world class operator. Bellew's only lacking at having fought the truly best in his division but he was never "name" enough to get those fights, the likes of Cloud, Hopkins, Dawson, Pascal etc but he may just be headed there.
Let's be honest here mate. Bellew did not win against Cleverly. It was close, but he lost.
I don't agree that being a mandatory makes you world class. Look at the fighters he's been beaten: McKenzie, DMac, Chilemba.
Those guys were fringe contenders at best.
With regards to Saunders, I think he's def the most talented, but he hasn't stepped up to the plate so can't say he's world class or even close. But he will be.

bellew is about to get a world title shot and it's through hard work and coming up the old fashioned way. that definitely proves he is world class, whether he is championship material or not is up for debate. If he can stay away from Stevens power, he will get the win.
Saunders is easily the best 160 pounder in the country not named Macklin, Murray or Barker. Not world class but in a year or so he will be there, hence me saying he is verging on being world class.

Yes. His resume isn't the strongest yet. But I like his mix of boxing and punching plus he appears to have a chin.
I think eventually he will fare better against world class opponents than a lot of the other Brits will. Ricky Burns for example struggled in his last fight before his opponent quit. Amir Khan also had shaky moments in his most recent outing, against a shopworn vet.

How the hell could you leave McDonnell out of the list? IBF world champion.

The ones I bolded are not world level or close to it yet, though they may be in the future. I can agree to the others somewhat, but I don't think Bellew has really mixed it at world level yet, unless you count Cleverly, who at the time was given a belt.
But I did forget about some of the middleweights (I knew I missed someone!). 15 is probably a good number at this stage, and even that is a heck of a good pool for world class fighters imo.

And 20 guys here:
Froch

Gavin
Rose

Froch and Burns are out on their own in my opinion. Both world class operators, levels above their British counterparts. There are a few contenders for the 3rd spot, and it's difficult to separate them.
Some of these fighters haven't even fought at the top European level.. never mind world level. Don't name these losers. Froch is going to beat Groves... Froch is a world class fighter.
Who the **** has Groves beat?
Khan is still well above Brook since Brook hasn't had the balls or made the effort to fight top opponents.
