My answer would be no because we are witnessing a new a day and a new age in the sport of boxing. In today's game, the fighters are divas and are making too much money; So much so that they have the luxury of cherry picking and choosing their opponents based on the risk and reward system. I place much of this blame on their handlers. They don't want their fighters taking on risky challenges, unless they are going to be handsomely rewarded or compensated for it.
In the old days however, the throwback fighters, didn't have that luxury. They fought whichever opponent who were available to them at the time and didn't earn nearly as much money as today's fighters do today. In addition, they wouldn't allow the lack of money to prevent the boxing fans from seeing the fights that they wanted to see. This is what put them in the GOAT status.
Furthermore, the throwback fighters were a lot busier too. Many of them would fight every other week as opposed to every six Months to a Year as many the current crop of boxers do and because of it many have over two hundred fights on their resumes which cements their legendary status in the sport.
What would it take for any other fighter besides Robinson, Ali, etc to be universally regarded as the best ever?
herculean accomplishments.
it's virtually impossible. robinson had exactly 200 fights ....

that would be very difficult acts to duplicate......ali & robinson whew!!!!

How about being, the best ever? That would be a start.
No becuz the talent gets worse and worse every generation...
The fab 4 era was the best era ever IMO
So whoever was considered the best of that era should at least have consideration
There really arent alot of great or even really good fighters these days, and the few that there are dont really fight each other very often. I think these days too much politics, ducking and dodging going on for that to happen, and fighters just dont fight very often either.
Hopefully in the not too distant future things change though.
Pretty much.
Absolutely nothing. Floyd had his chance with Pacquiao, and even then, you couldn't call him GOAT.
Its a product of this generation. There aren't enough truly great fighters to stack on your resume.
