The Koki Kameda fight averaged an 11.8 rating point equalling around 15 million viewers while the undercard averaged a 7.4 rating point meaning around 9 million.
The main event was the 5th most watched sporting event of the week while the undercard was the 9th most watched sporting event of the week.
The only other sports in the top 10 were football and baseball. Football dominated the top ten with 7 places, boxing had 2, baseball had 1.
Season 3 of Hajime No Ippo will be coming out, maybe that'll bring in more fans, whatever benefits the sport...I'm for it.
Good news,
Japan can produce some legit fighters for sure.
Takeshi Uchiyama is doing really good at the moment.
I've read some of it, but I'm so content with the animation that I don't mind waiting for it. From what I've heard, the anime is considered to be the greatest adaptation ever or at least it's up there. I'm freaking excited for season 3 man :boxing:
I watched Hajime No Ippo back around 2009 and since then I keep haring that season 3 is coming out any day now. I've given up at this stage.
It had an audience of 15 million and it was the fifth most watched event of the week? Damn! Did they have a superbowl, world series and world cup championship match in the same week that were watched by more than 15 million people?
Pretty standard for ratings in Japan to be around 10 million plus. I think number 1 that week was a football match between Korea and Japan with over 20 million. The largest rating for boxing in recent years was a Kameda fight with over 40 million. It's among the most watched events in Japan ever.
Exactly. What's the point of this thread? More cluttering the NSB front page, can we have actual discussion threads on here? Way too much to ask, I suppose.
NSB is cluttered with nonsense anyway. Nothing wrong with a morale booster amidst all the people fighting each other over boxers who couldn't give two ****s about them.
Big ratings are good for the sport. If we focused more on ratings like these the way MMA does people wouldn't run around spouting that boxing is dead nonsense. Not only is it great for me to know that boxing is doing well in my favourite country, but it's equally great to know boxing is big in a country that was previously dominated by MMA.
I just started the first episode... but I'm watching a bunch of other anime on crunchy roll right now
Yeah I'm gonna re-watch the whole thing before season 3 comes out, or maybe I'll let season 3 pile up, waiting for an episode weekly can suck at times.

china =/= Japan
I'm reading it right now. Really early parts of it, He's fighting in the All Japan East vs West rookie tournament.... I love how they name these moves.
How can he defend against the Smash attack!?

There's a billion of them that's why.

Great for Boxing. They have a history in being great supporters of combat sports. Check out the MMA boom back in 2002-2005 in PRIDEFC which only went a few due to the Yakuza in 2007.

Yeah. Japan from what I recall is among the top world champion producing countries.
There's good money to be made out in japan and the reason we dont hear from them all down here is because they can mostly afford to stay home and bring in the comp. I suppose its surprising for people who dont follow the smallest of weight classes but they have a great tradition there and the atmosphere in some of their more famous venues is apparently amazing (cant speak from personal experience of course lol) .
It's personally towards the top of my list for one of the places I would most like to visit for an event.
Boxing is actually pretty big in japan. Right now they have some hot fighters too so no surprise there
