When I think of the ideal Throwback fighters I think of Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Marvin HAgler. Those guys were not they type of guys to be ducking or dodging anyone, they showed up to fight night in and night out. They don't have to be ATG like the ones I mentioned those were just examples. but Didn't matter if they won or lost they fough whoever the fans or the #1 contenders or the sanctioning bodies wanted. Those are the kind of fighters I always loved to watch. Who in your opinion are todays "throwbacks". I'd have to go with :
Ward
Cotto
Matthyse
Winky Wright
Matthysse is yet to be classed in that group from future fights,
I'd pick these;
JMM
Khan
Froch
Katsidis (say what you want he would fight anyone)
ODL
Holyfield (this guy had balls of steel, completely fearless)
Gatti
Buster Douglas, put the fear back into Tyson
Valero (think this guy could have been a seriously avoided fighter had he still been alive)
Forgot about Paul Williams, he fought everyone. I think Crawford will eventually be on this list. He has the type of skill that you just don't see in the majority of today's fighters.
He did avoid him. Ward said he wasnt deserving enough when butes hype was at its highest, so they chose to sacrifice Froch to Bute instead and we know what happened there.
Let these dudes know. Straight up ducked bute, said he had to establish himself in the states. Straight up *****
I'll go with
Shane
Martinez
JMM
P Will
Mares seems to be one as hes moving up in classes due to the promoter cold war...
Matthysse
Kahn (He's a ballsy little cunt that one)
Maidana
B Hop of course
James Toney would STILL fight anyone
Mayorga
Oscar
Shane and Oscar are at the top of the list though in terms of who they got the chance to fight.
how can Andre Ward be considered a throwback fighter when he refuses to fight outside of california and when he does fight he spoils, runs, hugs, and headbutts?
there is nothing throwback about andre ward. to compare him to someone like marvin hagler is a travesty.
an abomination.
If the Super Six didn't impress you, you're watching the wrong sport.
Are you serious? He's said multiple times he wants to fight Ward. And to think Froch would dodge anybody let alone Hopkins is a joke and I can only laugh at that notion.
Does he refuse to fight at 175 or does he want to defend his belts? and do the '75ers refuse to fight at 168 then?
Hopkins and Stevenson (who was his IBF mandatory) called him out multiple times and look who he's fighting next, what's worse, he wants to fight Kessler a third time... He has Ward, Hopkins, Stevenson (Rodriguez probably wants a piece of him too) calling him out and he's fighting Groves... I don't know why he fought Yusaf Mack when he had so many high vintage fighters calling him out since the Super Six.
People give him too much credit for not ducking the Super Six (where he lost to Ward, Kessler, and Dirrell) and beating a hype job in Bute.
He's also probably one of the most arrogant boxers in the sport...

Sorry to soil both of your troll attempt threads, but this conversation is moot, it's not the fighters, its the promotors and the business aspect of the sport, troll that if you want.
LOL @ "Avoided Bute"

He priced himself out of the Oscar fight he priced himself out of the Taylor rematch, he priced himself out of the Mayweather fight he priced himself out of the Margarito fight.
These were all absolutely reasonable and good deals that he chose to walk away from.
You have to be an absolute moron to price yourself out of a fight with Oscar especially.
Some of these would have been career high pay days for him and he walked away from them.
That isn't the traits of a throwback fighter.
you quoted a guy saying jmm,,, and im pretty sure your talking about winky,,,
your dead on about winky,,,,
but to be fair to the other guy, he was saying jmm, unless he edited his post
Tyson fury
Adrien broner
Danny garcia
Carl froch.
Lol at some one saying ward. Ward is a dirty fighter who holds and headbuttss his way to victories. No respect for a guy who cheats. He's lucky LUCIAN bute lost to froch otherwise that ass would be grass and chin would be glassed.
I was gonna say JMM but I forgot

Guerrero
Mares
Bradley
Rigondeaux
M. Garcia
Being a throwback fighter is mainly about skills. Its someone who has both good basic fundamentals and advanced boxing skills. Who has a wellrounded game, a good boxing brain and can adapt to any style in front of him as well as digg down when he has to.
Heart alone doesnt make someone a throwback though, who they fight carries little weight too since that isnt up to them. Fighters at this level dont avoid anyone, if that was in their personality they wouldnt be able to reach this level in the first place. Its all on the promoters and managers when fights dont get made.
A throwback is someone who honed thier craft in a way modern fighters generally dont do anymore. Calling someone like khan a throwback is a joke, he is the steteotypical new breed fighter whos got poor skills and no brains but lives off his athletic talent.

Zab Judah !
No fighter today can be compared to the boxers of the past. Period. Promoters control everything now a days so these so called throwbacks don't exist imo. 98% of boxers say, "I will fight whoever my promoter puts in front of me."
He also gave up his WBC title at first for avoiding his mandatory (Anthony Dirrell), refuses to fight Light Heavyweights (for now at least), avoided Bute when the Bute hype was at it's highest, has fought maybe once in the last 2 years and it was against a severely weight drained Dawson who was KO'd by Miranda a week earlier. He did well to compete in the Super 8 despite being a prospect though, but it has been two years since the Super Six and he really needs to get back in the ring.
