Cotto is amazing. He punches so hard, he makes knees pop.
It's like when Vitali's grazing uppercut handicapped Odlanier Solis and he couldn't stand back up.
cotto is the best middleweight. i mean he beat a guy with 90 year old knees who hid that he needed major knee surgery. how can he not be the best he's the lineal champ derp
correction.
Martinez has 100 year old knees. Even a Martinez with 90 year old knees, should have been able to beat Cotto.
After going back and watching much of both of them again, I'm more torn right now. What Hopkins has that really helps him in this matchup is that he was strong himself and he knew how to neutralize fighters from close quarters.
This would be a great fight. If both were in prime now and fought, the match-up would be compared to May-Pac fight. I'd pick Hopkins tho I could change my mind.

I would tilt toward Hagler.
Due to the volume, and he also had good accuracy, wasn't the normal brawler or guy with power you knew, he could dab a little bit in both.
Would I bet on that fight?? No, I think it's too close to be put money on, can go eitherway.
Hagler is awarded UD due to his high volume and crowd-pleasing style.
Hopkins was crowd Pleasing vs Trinidad. He wanted to make a statement and he put on a show vs Trinidad.
i love hagler, but i think his only chance would be to tko hopkins late, which i dont think he would do. hopkins would make it ugly, there would be lots of head clashes, holding and hitting from both guys. the slight speed and better boxing brain would favour hopkins, thats why i have him winning a close decision, but hagler has a chance of stopping him late. orthough hagler is top 3-5 middleweight of all time, i think there are a few decent boxers that would have given him trouble, hopkins, james toney, roy jones, guys that can defend and counter and make it hard from him. he wasnt the fastest guy.
Whoever is the more confident fighter would win. I think I give the edge to the Executioner on that. He's always confident no matter what is put in his way.
I think hagler beats him with body work I think Bhops height makes things worse on him and gives hagler a bigger target and I don't see Hopkins having enough power to keep hagler at bay hagler might have been a south paw but he could switch hit really well and I think that would throw bhop off to much.
Hopkins has shown his class time and again. We saw how well he performed against RJJ when Roy was superman and Hopkins was green. However Hopkins MW reign is overrated with his best wins coming over blown up MW's. I have to favor Hagler in this fight by UD.
Hopkins has never fought anyone close to Haglers level (except Roy Jones and we know what happened there) and has never fought in a 15 round fight with small, hard gloves as opposed to pillow cases for that matter, either.
Hagler would take him deep, break him down and end him late.
Not convinced, and I've watched both, more so Hopkins admittingly. Both had great chins, both were supremely conditioned, but I like Hopkins defense to pull him through. Hopkins was a physically strong guy at the weight as well.
