Fight Hype is reporting that Amir Khan is wasting no time in replacing his former manager Asif Vali, and has turned to Al Haymon as a swift replacement.
He'll then join a long list of Golden Boy fighters who are managed by Al Haymon, including Floyd Mayweather and Devon Alexander. Potentially Khan's two next opponents.
Is it a wise move by Khan? Or will he become another overprotected fighter? Or is this another step on the road with regards to securing a Mayweather showdown next year?
I don't know that floyd will ask khan to do that to make a fight. I know if he did make the stip Khan would do it because he want to fight floyd, just as JMM and Tim did with TR to get a manny fight.
I also know manny wouldn't do it because since he believes he will lose to floyd, he will avoid doing things floyd requests to make the fight happen.
If you believe what you wrote then you are just too far gone bud.
Thats a good move on his part. It should work out as long as his chin does not get hit. That is why it won't work out because his chin can't take a punch.
That doesn't help the fans or the sport, it just means there's less money available for promoters to put on other good fights.
Moreover, fighters getting paid big lop-sided money to take on average opponents deters them from taking risks against the best fighters.
LM and Garcia are getting paid pretty well. So your point loses some credibility. It's the UFC model if I may. Monopolize the best fighters and showcase them against each other regularly. Losing wont hurt as much so there is essentially decreased risk when fighting a perceived threat. I think this may be a win for all including the fans.
Khan got owned by a bum in His last fight, unless Haymon can get him jaw replacement surgery, he will continue to get his ass laid out. You can only find so many feather fisted bums out there willing to take a dive.
and where do you think they get the money to "invest in quality fights"?
Hint: it's not by giving it all away to fighters taking on sub-par opponents.
Promoting is a tough game, these guys aren't making the stacks you think they are, in fact, they frequently lose money and many leave the sport.
A big payday is warranted for a big fight against a quality opponent, not for knocking over a can.
HBO Boxing and SHowtime Boxing get their budgets from corporate. Who they give prime dates to is based on viewer ratings, not opinion of the matchup. If HBO feels paying moe for Berto v bum A is a better investment than santa cruz v mares, thats THEIR decision.
A fight may look great on paper but there is no guarantee that it will be great in the ring.
All we can hope for is we get surprised like we did with Figueroa and Arakawa.
I think its better that fighters get as much money as they can. Its always better when the people who do the work get more.
The fans benefit when the promoters and networks invest more in quality fights.

How could you be opposed to guys fighting making and taking home more?

smart move by khan
he is aligning himself with the best manager in boxing to secure big money fights with floyd. etc
honestly i would like to see a khan-berto fight,,, that would be fun,,,,

You really think promoters are using the bulk of profit to stage better fights?
It's so disappointing to see this from a boxing fan. How could you be opposed to guys fighting making and taking home more? Thats what it should be. The fans benefit when the promoters and networks invest more in quality fights.
Haymon is changing the economics of the sport-making sure more money goes into the pockets of the fighters rather than the promoters.

How can that be a good decision if Khan's intentions is to fight Floyd? Shouldn't Khan have joined Floyd promotions?

I'm not implying you said it was a bad decision. I agree its a good, smart business decision. I guess I shoulda put that first. My bad.

Who ever said it was bad decision?

Al Haymon makes everyone connected with him money. He has successfully taken the model he used for concert promoting and tweaked it to work in boxing. His fighters get paid more, get the best dates, and work with the top promoters.
I think posters here on NSB have things backwards. Most posters complain that a Berto gets 7 figures to fight bums. You think any pro fighter wants to get paid less for harder work?
WOuld any of you that have jobs go into your boss' office and ask for harder work for less pay?

This is my point exactly!
Fighters talk to each other as well. When fighters start sharing purses and seeing the difference, they will wonder what's the reason behind it. In little time the fighters find out it's because of a difference in management. It is no mystery that Victor Ortiz, Lucas Matthysse, and now maybe Amir Khan, are flocking to Haymon.

This means he will fight Berto in the near future to secure a Floyd shot in 2014..
That's right especially since Canelo walked through everybody to earn his shot.
