I was just curious if anyone has any idea as to why HBO refused (although ive heard they are close to reaching an agreement) to air anymore of Guillermo Rigondeaux's fights. I know to an uneducated boxing fan who has no appreciation of the sweet science it may be boring to watch. But to people who like to watch a master of the sport at his best then I don't think there is another fighter today who can put on a boxing display like Rigo. If HBO's argument is that he's too defensive minded to be an attraction then look no further than Floyd Mayweather. Hes the biggest ppv or 2nd biggest im not exactly sure of REAL numbers and hes a defensive master. So why not allow Rigo to make the kind of money that he deserves bc as I said before he is UNREAL when it comes to the science and I for one feel lucky to be able to watch such a master at work.
TR are a disgrace for not insisting that HBO back Rigo. Whether you like to watch the guy or not, he has earnt his stripes and deserves the network to get behind him. He has only had a dozen fights for crying out loud and has just beaten one of the best fighters in the world in a fight he was expected to lose....and he won it well! If he gets his chance and then proceeds to bore the **** out of all the viewers to the point where they switch off, then drop him, but at least give the guy the chance he has earned and richly deserves.

Good god...not another boxing hipster.:nonono:
I've always liked Floyd's style. What I don't understand is how HBO wants to show Andre wards fights but doesn't want anything to do with Rigondeuax. F*cking stupid if u ask me.
Other than the language barrier I tend to agree.

comparing rigondeaux to mayorga is equally silly.
Not in the sense that they can be interpreted the same way they did it with Mayorga. I'm not comparing their trash talk, if your reading comprehension was above grade school level you would have understood that I was referring to the way the lack of english isn't an impediment to trash talk. There are many youtube videos and even espn has some videos of Rigondeaux where his interviews are subtitled.
Let's be realistic here and most importantly honest. I'm not taking anything from Donaire, in fact I like Donaire, but I'm sure given his opposition, Rigo could have scored some good KOs with people in Donaires resume. We have to blame his promoter because his job believe it or not is to promote fighters. Rigo's high profile fights? Which one, Donaire's? If master boxing bores you then I don't know what to tell you.
In his world standing in front of Manny or Nonito and not using any boxing skill to win is applauded but boxing and moving, feinting, jabbing is running and pot shotting because manny nor nonito have developed the basic skill to deal with these things.
You might not know this since you're not even a boxing fan but Rigondeaux talks a lot of crap, he trashed talked Donaire the entire time claiming he could beat Donaire's previous fights in one night. Mayorga didn't speak english and that didn't stop HBO.
Tagging Rigondeaux as boring inside the ring is just plain f*cking stupid. What makes a fighter exiting in your opinion?

I don't understand how people can discredit rigo. The guy is a fvcking mythical creature.
He kinda sorta is. Rigondeaux lost some mystique with the Cordoba fight, but he gained it back with the Donaire encounter. "El Chacal" looked like a black samurai with that wide stance and fierce accuracy. Let Mares come and get some....
It's easy, Floyd was a monster at 130 and became an established star. From then on HBO had no problem putting him on because he was already a big name by the time he began to be more defensive minded.
Rigondeaux on the other hand has been defensive minded from the start, I'm not saying they're right. Hell I love watching Rigo fight and they're been assh*les to him but you can't compare the two.

A string of good posts are a rarity around here, my man. I commend you. Green K
crap u understand but not us! I hate Floyd but I've paid his early ppvs coz I want to see him loose! normally hbo paid for fighters 126 and up but they have to be exciting. below 122 was rare! Donaire become an hbo fighter because of his spsctacular kos! Rigo has bored us in his high profile fights! he'll be back in the rematch!

Floyd can speak English! can thrash talk, was hated!
Rigo was just boring in and out of the ring!

Other than Donaire what is other big name that Rigo has faced that would want to make you watch him again?
Rigo sits back and counterpuches, at this stage at least Floyd pot shots the other guy

Floyd was knocking dudes out at Super Featherweight. It wasn't until his days at 140-147 where the KO's starting declining. Floyd's always been a safety first fighter, but he can be a much more aggressive fighter than Rigo can, and Floyd had a personality to sell to the public, even as "Pretty Boy".
This has less to do with Rigo's style and more to do with what he did to Donaire, in my opinion.
It wasn't exactly the best style clash. HBO can find guys to throw in there with Rigo to make him look like the type of fighter that gets fans to tune in.
while rigondeaux does deserve big paydays on network boxing, he'll never be floyd mayweather. what floyd mayweather does to generate ppv buys goes far beyond what he does in the ring. it goes beyond even what he does outside of the ring. the people choose who they want to follow. they choose who they want to hate. you can move them along by investing in their promotion, but you can't fully fabricate bonafide star power.
rigondeaux will never be a star. he may never even be a draw. that's the difference.
Yep. Yep. Yep.
Floyd is more entertaining than Rigo in the ring. Even when he's not attacking he gives you more things to look at, displays more facets of the sport.
I agree, but Rigo should still be broadcast. He's one of the most highly skilled boxers on the planet and a champion. He's been a champion practically his whole life. Guille isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it would be a shame for someone of his caliber to be brushed aside.
