Imagine the Meldrick Taylor of 1989-1990(his prime was pretty brief) VS. Floyd Mayweather at 140 lbs.
Handspeed edge: Taylor,...but not by a huge margin.
Power edge: Slight edge to Mayweather,...again,..not by a huge margin.
Defense edge: Mayweather,...by a HUGE margin. Taylor,..not hard to hit. His opponents were usually busy dealing with the blistering speed.
Footwork edge: Mayweather,..huge margin here.
Ring generalship: tossup.
Endurance: Even.
Variables: Mayweather. Has lots of ways to win. Taylor didn't have a lot of looks in the ring. Just overwhelming.
Boxing ability: Mayweather,..However,......Taylor was a very good boxer,..just not great like Mayweather.
I see Mayweather winning because he takes over after some very difficult rounds trying to time the blur that was Taylor. He will lose most of the first half of the fight and then gradually get some timing down. I don't see him potshotting in this one. It will be very, very close. Taylor was way too fast to potshot on. Mayweather will just land the harder more eye-catching punches in the last 3 rounds.:usa:
This is a tough one but I think Taylor's speed and volume would win him the decision. It would be fun to see Mayweather using his boxing smart against a such a gifted boxer like Taylor. Too bad his career was so brief.
taylor would spark him out, imo. he had all the tools to negate what floyd does best. his handspeed would be the downfall of mayweather's illegal elbow defense/counterpunching.
i would love to see this hypothetical fight. and it's not often that i say i would like to see a mayweather fight other than to see him hopefully ko'd. this would be a true test of skill.

My initial reaction was Taylor due to volume punching but Mayweather's power at 140 was no joke. I think he earns Taylor's respect after losing some early rounds and wins a decision.
That's a very, very good matchup.
I think Taylor would win the early part of the fight but I don't think he could hurt Mayweather and I think Mayweather would eventually walk him down. I'd have Mayweather KO 9.
Taylor no doubt.

That is a good fight and I would favor Mayweather to win a close ud because he is smarter and a harder more accurate puncher and has a better chin. Taylor had faster hands than Mayweather and his fast combinations would probably win him some of the rounds. Mayweather would probably get hit in the face more than any fight he has ever had. Taylor was just an average puncher so Mayweather could take his power. Mayweather might be able to KO Taylor if he really nailed him with his straight right.
i think prime mel can get him...floyd mayweather depended on good boxers to gas in the late rounds and mel didn't have stamina issues...chavez just got mel on accumilation but took a shellacking from mel for 12 rounds...just too bad mel had to move up to 147 to make some money...norris ruined him...
