This includeds the rest of the world as well, such as Australians etc.
But if we didnt have so many Good tall Atheltic rugby players(players from the lions tour for example), tennis(Del potro, thomas berdych, tomic, roenic), soccer(Christiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale) and cycling(Frome ,wiggins)
Also i think communism strongly effected the eastern block. Poland, russia, and Ukraine etc. They were only allowed to turn pro since 1990, and only a small percentage still turn pro, although that is changing.
Does anyone else agree?
could you have picked someone more Athletic like christiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Seen Heskey play he has the right build to be a great RB/TE. That guy is strong, even if he is past it... or should I say shot.
One thing that is never mentioned in this argument about the past are two world wars that devastated europe, not even discussing the mass deaths during russian revolution, communist takeover. Literally a couple generations of men disappeared and never had an opportunity to even think about playing a sport. Something to consider In the big picture of the past.
excellent point
That's because they don't do the same kind of training as NFL players and they aren't pumped full of the juice. Football requires you to be nimble as well as athletic. It requires intelligence and not just brute force. Put one of your meathead NFL guys on a football pitch and their brains would malfunction.
Whereas if you gave this beast a few weeks NFL training and some roids, he'd run through the entire field...

Youre a good poster NE but you are so nationalistic when it comes to stuff like this.
I'd love to see the stats on the 'tons of Euro heavys' who boxed because i'd bet good money it was dwarfed by the amount of American heavies. Hence why you dominated. Its mostly a numbers game.
Unless you are actually suggesting that Americans have genetic superiority?
I can only ever read these arguments in the same way. When ultimately a few Americans sort of but not blatantly claim genetic superiority.
Success in sports all things being equal come down to a numbers game more or less like you said.
Spain being a bit of anomaly in football but then you can argue a sort of age of enlightenment occurred when the mixture of coaching methods, taking from different footballing cultures, and youth participation created a perfect storm and created dominant team.
I'd be happier as a line like was used to describe the dominance of American heavies in the past. In the sense that they must have had fantastic youth participation of males of a certain size in boxing, and they had superior training methods. It's logical and it stands to reason.
Instead it comes down to this 'better athletes' argument. Which is slightly racist - let's be honest.
Nah. It is what it is with the Euro fighters. It is what it is.
I have been to the US, its a hellish ****hole compared to the north european living standard.

sooner or later everything will change, and there will be more attention to soccer in US. already Us team is doing great, and like a year or so, it won some kind of cup, winning Brazil and Spain. so its just a matter of time. but I disagree, when folks say that HW is weak. peace :boxing:
I agree it is starting to take off in this country, but it still has a ways to go.
It is 100% our fault for the way we structure soccer in this country. We have no second or third divisions just MLS. Hell, most colleges don't even have soccer teams in this country.
But I digress, the reason I think this argument is stupid is because America is basically a nation made up of people from all over the world. We are a melting pot as we call it. So it just seems stupid to me.

kenny norton wasn't suited for boxing, huh?

he was a star at every sport he ever tried, but in his youth he was an amazing football player. his son won three superbowls, and was a great NFL player.
for starters, my posts are among the most informed on this website. they're generally well written, and i throw in some funnies for good measure. they took a vote last year, and out of the 200K people who post here i came in second. not the be all end all, but something to think about.
your crediblity takes a hit when you can't distinguish between the nfl and the nba... how much do you know about those sports, really? i know plenty about soccer. i played it for 10 years, the way most american children do. it's not a sport that caters to exclusively HW talent.
very few, if any soccer players are over 200 lbs when they're in shape. soccer isn't pulling from HW talent the way these big man (NFL, NBA, rugby, etc,) sports pull from it, i can assure you.
finally, the NBA is probably 10-20 % international these days. if you look at the D league (minor league) the percentage is much higher. football is popular in canada. anybody can (and has) play in the league. got a huge, talented athlete? send him over in his teens and see if he can make a d1 college squad. very few countries produce men large and strong enough to play in the NFL. same with boxing as a HW, incidentally.
generally only americans and europeans have been strong enough to box at HW. we've had some unique guys, but for the most part the big men come from the same parts of the world.
Good post. I'm glad that you got to it before I did. I wouldn't be so kind.
then Blame United States, that you have to pay lots of $ in order to train and play it. i'm sure any other sport is the same. mma fighters cant just train for free there. rather then say that Hw is weak these days. I mean - people who say that have to be clowns. May be genetics got weaker in US these days? that explains. People are same all over the world. today they get owned, tomorrow they own every one else. Why look for damn excuses? come on guys..

I'll even add this. US get owned by 2 robotic brothers. 1 is 40+ years old, another sick bastard that wants to compete in 2016 Olympics.
aint that pathetic?
genetic superiority?
i think the talent pool of american big men is better than anybody else on the planet, based on the eye test and accomplishments. call that whatever you'd like. the better athlete is the better athlete. i don't care where he come from. accomplishments and the eye test. if americans are more athletic than everybody else in a certain sport i've got no problem saying it.
there were tons of euro HW. lots of them emigrated to the US and fought as first generation immigrants, but many stayed in europe, and fought for world titles. do i really have to go through the resume of the champions and find the euro challengers, or can you take my word for it? i have already wasted far too much time on bscene today, to be frank. surely you can boxrec these guys.
off the top of my head, ali fought jurgen blin, henry cooper, karl mildenberger, brian london
patterson fought rademacher, london, johannson thrice, bert cooper
the list goes on.
My only point is that this past dominance you had was down to numerical superiority (ie you had more boxers). Not having more natural talent to begin with.
Now the gap has narrowed and Euro's are are on top. I agree boxings demise in America has caused this for the most part, though the opening up of soviet states has obviously made an impact.
I really dont know what else to say. This has to be the most pointless rehashed argument on BS.
1. I am a yank. 2. It's more complicated than that with soccer. The entire set up of our soccer infrastructure discourages poor youth because it is a pay to play system. Jurgen Klinsmann goes on a nice diatribe about it before he became our coach. Basically he said we will always be behind as long as inner city youth (who tend to be our best athletes) are discouraged to play because they need to pay to play in basically every youth league in this country.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to American football.
address that message to yanks. it's them who say hw division is weak. as I said before, their best players should of played football(soccer). because they'll claim that big dudes go to nfl. (because of $) it's time to accept their boys Chambers and Arreola and give em some credit.

You dominated the HW division cos no one else cared. It was every Fat Yank's dream to boil down to 250lbs to be HW champion of the world. Other countries had other dreams.
Essentially you were competing amongst yourselves which is the only time you dominate any sport.
I think the US is pretty dominate in men's basketball if you ask me, and women's basketball, and women's soccer, and men's golf, and women's golf, and gridiron football, and women's gymnastics (although there is stiff competition), and swimming, and others. Last time I checked we competed internationally in all of the above sports.
