My understanding Rigo v Donaire did very well at the gate...
Why the assumption that the winner (Rigondeaux) is not going to do well in his next fight? What proof can HBO present which states Rigondeaux is a marketing failure post Donaire win?
I understand your opinion on this matter. But why the quick assumptions by HBO?
It's the most basic assumption, I'm not one of those guys who wears tin foil hats and think that the world is a great conspiracy.
I think it was because he took donaire to school, you can tell hbo was upsey & quickly started to downplay the win by saying donaire was weight drain & did train properly, his shoulder, baby on the way. Hbo just want brawler on their network, except for Ward who they praise for trying hard on the Dawson fight to knock him out.

It couldn't be because of Donaire now, could it? The guy that's BEEN fighting on HBO?
For Rigo to get a fight soon, he will have to wait for Donaire(which I doubt happens) or take a huge paycut while basically taking a tune up fight.
Rigo got a rather large purse for the Donaire fight... the problem is if he's looking to make that ever go out he has no shot of ever landing a fight regardless of who it is....a paycut indeed.
Because they are in the business of making money and they do not believe he can draw viewers. It may not be fair but for a business like HBO it's the bottom line!

Please! I love Rigo, even if people do not like his style. I mean I seen most of his fights and he knocks dudes down etc. He's entertaining to watch. He just didn't look good in the Donaire fight and that one fight where he fought on the undercard of Pac/Margarito. Well, from what I seen. I like the guy, so yeah I'll watch him.
But why is he completely being set aside from the network? Surely you understand the amount of times boxers winning so-so decisions have been given another date on HBO.

No one credible at 122, unwilling to move to 126....he is boring to listen to and not great to look at. He doesn't speak english and he's from cuba. His amateur style isn't appealing at all.... you can say he's a counter puncher but he throws very few punches per round on top of all that (Floyd and JMM are counter punches with a much higher output). There's nothing marketable about him....to top it all off he's old. There are so many things against him and almost nothing going for him.

He only has 12 fights, so now that he dismantled the top guy, he'll have to work backwards. He got the date because he was fighting Donaire and he was the B-side. It seems like HBO doesn't want to take the risk and make him the A-side of an HBO Championship or B.A.D. card.
From what I hear it was packed! You were there live, CubanG. If Rigondeaux can get this amount of major supporters from fans of all walks of the country... what will it be like if he headlined a card in Miami?
Unfortunately, I don't think the Big Guys want to consider moving operations down here due to falsified rumors.
The time isn't right, yet, but it'll happen. Guys just need to keep winning. When the day comes -- and I hope it's soon enough -- I'll be seeing you there! :fing02:
I don't know if it was a sellout, but the place was packed. The greatest number of attendees were Filipino, but Rigo definitely had a few partisan supporters there. No doubt, most of those Cubans flew or drove into town to back their boy. I would bet that a Rigondeaux-based card in Miami would do well.

I think it's a combination of factors:
1. Rigo's style isn't entertaining/accessible to the casual viewer.
2. He doesn't have a fan-base that HBO/Arum can take advantage of.
3. He fights in a division that rarely gets HBO coverage, and has few notable opponents.
I think Arum should put Rigo on Pac's under-card, or put Rigo and Donaire on the same card, Donaire/Darchinyan and Rigo/Montiel.

But we know neither fight is possible at the moment, so you see, the fact that there isn't anyone credible who is wiling to fight Rigo, ties HBO's hands.

There has plenty times an underdog has pulled a major upset on a huge TV network. Why the scrutiny behind Rigondeaux?

In a perfect world TR and GB get along. In a realistic world Rigondeuax beats the lights out of LSC and AM @ 122. Surely Mares can make his way back down to 122 no?

boxing is an entertainment sports.
Boxing already had enough coward and boring fighter in floyd. Rigo to add the burden, would kill the sports we love most.
Will the subscribers be entertained in Rigondeaux's next fight? How do we know they will or not?
If he can hype himself and beguiled fans to become his blind minions like floyd effectively does, perhaps he would sell his next fight.
maybe HBO does focus groups? who knows what their methods are, but the conclusion is that Rigondo won't entertain their subscribers
Another "hardcore" voice for the HBO subscribers... plz
