Their distinct difference is only that, Silva has the confidence that he could beat any fighter he fights, while floyd only fights the fighter he's confident he could beat. Should Silva ducked Weidman as floyd ducked Tzyu, Margarito, prime Mosley & Cotto, Pacquiao & other fighters in the long list, he's either yet 16-0 until now or 17-0 (if he chose a fighter he could easily beat) and would remain undefeated even through out his career. That is what people need to understand with all this talk of "popularity". How many black or hispanic people does anyone know that is really into MMA? It is a white/suburban demographic sport which is the reason it is so "popular" here. Look at sport from a global perspective. Baseball and Football are enormous in the US, but the rest of the world could give 2 ****s about it. Boxing and soccer are the most popular sports in the world outside of the US. We americans are so pompous and narrow minded we think the US is the world. MMA is an american sport and has the same fan base as nascar, baseball and football. Sometimes they have shows in other countries but look where...Brazil, UK and Canada lol. Whites and brazilians. Mark my word, I have said it before, in about 10-20 years the UFC will go the way of professional wrestling. It will still be around and have shows but it won't be anything like it is now. In fact its popularity has already waned, people grow out of it. I don't know anyone over the age of 30 who still watches the UFC. Unless they are fat, armchair toughguy rednecks who sit at Hooters and try to grab asses and start fights. Dumb azz there's a lot of Mexicans that is into ufc. And im sure many other athletes in there fields have as well. Plus floyd didnt fight the best/most dangerous opponents (Tony, Pac, Paul Williams, Prime cotto) when guys like Federer were always playing the best. This guyis DELUSIONAL if he thinks he is bigger than the sport. When he retires the sport will move on, and find the next star like it always does. Oscar helped catapult Floyd at the eendof his career. Floyd never did a big fight or was really known to the casual fan until Oscar helped along his career when Oscar retired!! Agreed, even Tyson at some point said that he's not bigger than boxing and boxing doesn't need him, and he was (and still is) MUCH more famous than Floyd. I'm not a fan of MMA, but the MMA audience is actually a lot more educated and affluent than the boxing audience. This is not my opinion, this is backed up by studies. MMA is very popular in college too. The typical audience is actually pretty well off, and they spend a lot of money. While the boxing audience, especially in the US, is relatively far poorer and less educated, and comprised of a lot more of minorities. The thing is boxing has a bigger audience than MMA worldwide, you can't just look at the US, so I call bull**** on that. Floyd chooses his opponents in boxing, mma the fans choose your fights... So its laughable how people compare the two... Yes however the guys Floyd handpicks are still pretty high level.
