A few notes from my recent conversation with Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer:
• Golden Boy is trying to wrap up the junior welterweight showdown between unified titlist Danny Garcia and interim titleholder Lucas Matthysse, which is one of the best fights in boxing. Although the main focus has been on finalizing it as a Sept. 7 Showtime main event, Schaefer said there is a possibility that it could land on the Sept. 14 Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez card as the co-feature. If that happens, the show would rank as one of the best pay-per-view cards ever.
• Former welterweight titlist Victor Ortiz, who competed on "Dancing with the Stars" while recovering from his broken jaw, is ready to return to action. Schaefer said he likely will be back in September, possibly on a Sept. 7 card or on the Mayweather-Alvarez undercard. He has no opponent yet.
• Now that Karo Murat has his visa and has been reinstated as light heavyweight titleholder Bernard Hopkins' mandatory challenger, Golden Boy is trying to reschedule the fight. "I'm looking at dates in late September or October," Schaefer said. The fight was originally scheduled for July 13, but it was canceled when Germany's Murat couldn't get a visa and it looked like it would take several months. Only after the show was canceled did Murat get the paperwork squared away, but by that time it was too late to proceed with July 13.
• When heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder faces former titlist Sergei Liakhovich on Aug. 9 on Showtime, the initial idea was to stage the fight somewhere in Alabama, where Wilder is from. However, that didn't work out, and Schaefer said the card will instead take place at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, Calif.
• Golden Boy is planning a card for Sept. 13 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas as part of the Mayweather-Alvarez fight week festivities.
man just when I thought GBP was slippin'....I hope they're serious....could've hyped it up even more if they had Swift and the other dude on the press tour....it don't really matter, boxing heads know that fight doesn't need any promotion :boxing:
$$$-Nelo will do numbers but if u really wanna break the record, throw DSG-Matthysse on it n it will.
It'd be a huge waste, I doubt it gets them 50k extra buys. Anyone that's heard of these 2 guys is already buying the ppv
Lucas vs Garcia would have to be the Main Event. Actually they could call the fight The Night Cap! Definitely better than Money vs Canelo, it would probably help save the night. Garcia vs Matthysse would steal the show unless Canelo some how beats Floyd. The MGM would explode if Floyd loses.
They are trying to break the record so adding that fight would def help I want it own there cause i will be there selfish reasons $$$-Nelo will do numbers but if u really wanna break the record, throw DSG-Matthysse on it n it will.
What they should do is have matthysse/garcia at the mandalay bay friday sept. 13. With all the boxing people in town, make the tickets affordable like canelo/trout and you'll have a sellout. there planning a show friday at the cosmo. they should just do this. this was done before vargas/trinidad. hbo had a card the night before in vegas with hopkins/echols and barrera/salud.

Don King used to have stack cards that included Finito Lopez on the non-telivised portion.
Depending who Ortiz would fight and the Lucas/Garcia bout its a very good card worth the money
Damnnnn I don't normally pay PPV money but if I was in the US I'd buy it in HD.
I buy every ppv so this would be like a compensation to me for all the weak cards I've paid for in the past.
Id be more happy for the $75 dollar price card if Matts Garcia was on it.
If that fight isn't on the ppv, it won't break the ppv record IMO. Could still do great numbers though.
Good points. For all the sh1t I gave to Ortiz, he's always entertaining. But so is Soto Karass, it's just that one guy has little speed and talent, and the other is short on heart and intangibles, Cintron style
You're also right to be skeptical of that card. The main event purse is a tremendous outlay, would be risky putting all those high priced guys on the undercard (how much does Danny want??) when everyone knows the undercard barely adds anything to the total.
I think the main event will be like $50 million with Floyd getting $40 maybe.
I wouldn't say it would be one of the best PPVs ever but it would be the best in a while. Imagine Floyd/Canelo, Lucas/Danny and Ortiz/Guerrerro all on the same fukin card!
And have Trout vs Rosado open it up.

Lol he's always entertaining. Kermit not so much.
Would be huge! Monster card. Too good to be true.
I figure this too but I hope all three got on with Vic maybe fighting a softy. Just to get back in the win column.

What?? Kermit in his prime was must watch TV. Remember when he balled his eyes out when Margarito beat him? When he leap frogged out the ring against Williams? The phantom headbutt against Sergio??
That's what Ortiz has become. From quitting against Maidana, to the headbutt against Floyd, I'm a tree bro, getting his jaw broke by a guy that no one thought had a chance. What will be next?!
HAHA the phantom headbutt!!
in fairness, i knew josesito had a great chance to win. The guy has a tremendous heart, and anyone with big determination will cause ortiz problems.

Lol yeah but aside from his antics he's not much of a good to watch to me. I like all of Ortiz' fights. I actually felt bad for him when Josesito broke his jaw. I've never felt bad for Kermit at anytime.
One of the best PPV cards ever? Hey I'm amped up for Matthysse vs Garcia as well but I wouldn't rate the those two fights as best ever. But Im not complaining!!!!
Well it be the best 1-2 punch I ever seen for ppv .... trying to think one better but can't remember one close .... don't think it happen this fight can get million views and solid crowd by itself but now thinking about it building a mayweather opposition with close than 2 million people watching is also good for future buisness
