Both of these fighters don't look like they exert more than other fighters. I'm always fascinated when a fighter looks so relaxed and loose yet the reaction from their opponents when they get hit is like they're fighting someone twice their size.
Who do you think p4p has more pop between Matthysse and Golovkin?
I know it's a big hypothetical and they're both elite punchers. I'm inclined to say Golovkin but it's really not an easy choice. I think Matthysse has fought and stopped a higher level of opposition, but I really don't think Golovkin would look any different against other top 160's then he has so far.
They are very close in punching power in my opinion. Both of them have one punch power and powerful combinations. Both of them have a variety of different knock out punches with both hands to the body or the head. Both of them are always on the attack and looking for the KO and their KO percentage shows they almost always get the KO. Both of them take a punch very well and have never been knocked down or even staggered that I am aware of. They are both fearless, relentless KO artists that most fighters do not want to fight. For one punch power I give GGG a slight edge.
Klitchko does. Different weight! We have a P4P punching power now? P4P has also gone weird. Basically P4P means My Favourite Fighters.
Mattheus swings from his heels. I'd say he's much more of a 1 punch KO artist than anybody today.
Great debate-- Great thread
1. Both are hard hitters, no doubt about it..
2. Lucas is a wild puncher, drops bombs but he is slightly more skilled version of a prime mayorga,, He has big power but alot are wide looping shots....
3. GGG is much more technical boxer, and is much more precise with his shot selection.. He reminds me of a prime chavez in the way he is so economical with his punches...
4. I gotta go with GGG being the better puncher... Power is about equal but GGG is more technical, and i think if he fought alexander and judah he would have stopped both while lucas knocked them down and got robbed..
Macklin is better then Pederson
No he's not. He lost against any good fighter he faced and at 30 he never had a world title. Hes average to say the least. GGG is outstanding but we cant say he's faced champions yet because he hasnt.
lucas = lights out 1-punch power
GGG = heavy pounding power
lucas can turn a fight around with 1 punch, GGG seems to completely obliterate and crumble opponents after a few rounds.
his last two fights have ended with one punch knockouts. if he hit ishida, macklin, or any other MW on the planet with those shots in the first or the 12th they would go down. all he needs is one flush punch, with either hand, to the body or head.
both are two of the hardest punchers on the planet. they also go about punching the right way, unlike the randall bailey's of the world, and know how to force exchanges or put a guy on the ropes.
matthysse is the more proven puncher. peterson was a durable guy with a decent resume @ 140, and he was completely destroyed. that said, alexander and judah finished the fight. both are durable guys, though, and better than anybody golovkin has fought.
golovkin is also bigger. the bigger you get the easier it is to hurt people of your size.
Eh? Matthysse's opposition is way better than GGG's.
I'm not saying GGG doesn't hit harder than Lucas but that's not a very accurate way to look at it IMO.

macklin is a tough fighter..his two stoppage losses were in the later rounds (rounds 11 and 10 i think) and golovkin took him out in 3 and broke his rib with one shot...ishida never been stopped (out of his 8 losses) and fought good punchers like kirkland, pirog, williams, etc. and golovkin knocked him out COLD in 3. ouma had like 7 losses only one of them by stoppage (which was early on in his career) before being sent to the hospital by golovkin after their fight..proksa (was ranked in the top ten middleweights) had never been stopped before losing to golovkin..
golovkin hits so hard he has to spar light heavyweights and cruiserweights..sergei kovalev (one of the light heavyweights who sparred golovkin) said he hits like a sledgehammer..
“He’s a f__king beast,” said Coyne, a 20-0 cruiserweight prospect who has recently dropped down to light heavyweight. “He’s been running guys out of here. Nobody under 175 pounds will spar with him.
“The dude can hit, I’m still getting used to it,” said Imoesiri, who like Coyne, is delightfully bright and articulate. “It’s crazy. I sparred with Alexander Povetkin and he never hurt me like this guy.

gennady golovkin...14 stoppages in a row, higher stoppage percentage, enough said...

Well this is exactly right because a loose relaxed muscle is much stronger than a tense tight muscle.

Mattysse IMO.
Golovkin has crushing power but he stopped Macklin who has always showed vunerability with his resistnace.
Peterson had never been stopped and Matthysse damn near took his head off.

To be honest, I think Matthysse has the P4P more freakishly heavy hands. Peterson took a glancing shot to the head that scrambled the hell out of his brains. Golovkin has hammers for hands as well, but I think a lot of his punching effectiveness comes from his technique which is superb.
I think Matthysee has the more freakish power versus Golovkin having plenty of power and knowing exactly how to use it.
