At nearly 31 with 36 fights under his belt do you consider Dawson shot? He was caught by a huge punch in his last fight and stopped in the fight before that after sucking weight to 168 against arguably the number 2 p4p fighter in the world. But have his skills eroded or speed decreased? I think people are to fast to call a fighter shot nowadays after a couple of losses. If anything I think Dawson may have been overhyped.
I think he's fine physically, but I don't think he'll be all there mentally after two stoppage losses. The Ward fight was a one sided beat down, which must have played on his mind a bit. But at least with that he could excuse it as being drained...
But to suffer a first round KO straight after? I don't know how easy it will be to recover mentally from that.
If not champion do you think he can still be a competitive top 10 fighter at 175?

I think Dawson is more of mental midget than actually being physically shot. He makes poor career decisions. Dropping down to a weight class that you haven't fought at in years to fight the number 1 guy in that weight class and also P4P #2 is stupid. Oh yeah and he fought in Ward's back yard. People say he has balls, I call the Ward fight stupid. Then like Pascal said, fighting Adonis Stevenson, the true definition of a punchers chance. A High Risk, Low Reward type of fight. He shouldve fought Cleverly or Shumenov and unified. In boxing the same fans that praise you for taking a risky fight, will be the ones laughing at you and making GIFs of your knockout reel. So as a boxer you have to make decisions that best suit you, your team, and your family.
Very good post.

Dawson is done, he's made so many bad decisions in his career and now it's resulting in loses. He has no one to blame but himself, he made a lot of dumb fights (the Ward and Tarver fights for example), he is always changing trainers, he's avoided and ducked fighters (Diaconu and Cloud). He's also mentally weak.
Dawson during the pre-fight with Stevenson was aggressive in his trash talking which was odd. To me that showed how insecure Dawson is, if he was confident he would of respected his opponent more. Scully is right about Dawson, he doesn't the love the sport of boxing, he doesn't care about being an underachiever, he doesn't care about being the best. He wants to win his way, even if it doesn't work.
He didn't look that great vs Adamek IMO and I can't consider it a prime Adamek either since his best weight was cruiser and Heavyweight.
The fact that I don't even think he could beat Pascal in a rematch shows he isn't that good. Decent, but nothing special.
He was real good, you should see his fights from 2007 and prior, one of the best prospects I've seen during that time. It was around 2008 when he fired Floyd Mayeather Sr and hired Eddie Muhammad is when his fights started to look lackluster. It's a mental issue with Chad that prevents him fighting to his potential.
You can't switch trainers 10 times and expect to be at the top of your game. He was switching trainers a lot even before he won the title but that was against C and D level boxers. At the world class level you have to be at the top of your game and Dawson needed a trainer that was right for him and a trainer that would discipline him. He got that with Floyd Sr and previous other trainers, but he fired them for whatever reason.
he looked pretty damn good minus a knockdown against a prime adamek who went on to accomplish some good things at cruiser and has held his own at heavyweight. it's not that he wasnt that good, he just suffers from judah-syndrome at times
I like the Judah comparison, another fighter who was knocked out and took a bad beating only to keep coming back and showing he could fight at a top level if not elite. Time will tell on Dawson, but to many people are jumping the gun with to little information to go by.
No, he just wasn't that good.

The way he come back will determine this. If he jumps in with a dangerous fighter he will be in trouble. He should come back slow against easy opponents.
all I know that he cry to have big fights big names well he got them now and he sucks. doesn't throw punches no more and just a disappointment at one point I thought he was the next Floyd but he drop the ball and now Andre ward will be the next floyd
the guy always talking he's on a higher level everytime he fights someone and then he loses horriblely.. against pascal it look if they didn't stop the fight he could of got a stoppage maybe,, when he fought ward weight drained himself like a dummy he didn't learn from other fighters that did the same and did horrible cotto gave up 2 pounds against pac look how he looked.. and Stevenson shows he's not the same fighter..
I bet money on that fight and lost ill never ever support chad literally bad dawson..
he's done in my book who can he beat that matters?? glen Johnson lol even the glen Johnson first fight he had trouble the guy had talent till he starting thinking he was above everyone
I gotta disagree with you.. I think stevenson, froch, pascal, kolovev, would all beat him,,, Cleverely may also, but i have my doubts.
He probably could get past hopkins, and bute... but bhop is 48 and bute is soft
Campillo would give dawson fits...
If Dawson get back to BOXING like he did in the past...I think he scores a comfortable UD over ALL! You have your opinion and I have mine and mine not changing and I don't expect your to either so I guess we can agree to disagree!
I don't think he's shot but fading quickly yes. I think the first pascal fight sealed it. No body knew tho because he fought hop after words and that no hope guy so it looked like everything was okay.
Just my opinion
I really think BHop beats Dawson at this point.

it would seem so but it's STILL Chad's fight if he shows up....he got the tools to handle to B.Hop imho...especially a 50 yr old B.Hop
