If May beats Canelo; Pac looks impressive vs. Rios,..does Pac vs. May finally happen?

Thats assuming they fight next may after the rios and canelo fights... Thats not going to happen They will fight in like 2015/16 when both are diminished and looking for a payday,, It will be totally irrelevant to the sport... Just like hopkins-jones 2 was a cash grab... Floyd isn't fighting past his Showtime deal , which ends in 2015. It remains to be seen what either guy will look like then. It's two years from now, what did Floyd look like two years ago compared to now??? Pretty much the same. What about Manny??? Pretty much the same. Of course, in this sport, you can age over night. We'll see. Neither guy in a bad spot as far as reflexes and speed goes for their ages of 36 and 34.

First of all this fight is too late,..assuming it may happen. But let's say Floyd gets a good solid decision over Canelo(I think he will),..and then Pac beats up Rios in November(not so sure). But Pac must look more impressive than Floyd just because of the 2-3 minute nap that Pac took last December. But let's assume that Pac does look impressive. I think the fight between them picks up some momentum. I'm not saying for a minute that it brings the magic or excitement that it would have 3 years ago. But it will still be good for boxing and would still be interesting. Everything I saw from Pac(except for him getting knocked out) against Marquez 4 would have been competitive skill-wise with Floyd. Let me hear what you think. I am not a Pac lover. Because I would lean towards Floyd in a fight. Too much boxing ability, to much defense and his right hand may be Pac's Kryptonite. Just think of Marquez' right hand in that last fight. Floyd's Right hand is like a laser guided missile!!!:lurk::lurk: To me the fight would've been made easily if Manny wasn't with Top Rank (TR). To answer your question, no. I doubt it'll ever happen. After getting knocked out, Floyd'll offer him less than 40 million, and Pacquiao will still turn it down. The only way that it would happen is if Manny left TR. The fight would be made quickly.

Just would've loved to have seen May vs. Pac within 6 months of Pac-Cotto. That was the boiling point for this bout. I still think Pac would have given May all he could handle. Then on the other side of the coin May would have been such a puzzle for Pac. No way could I have picked a winner in this scenario. You can blame Floyd all you want for changing his demands on money, which is bull, than again he's proven to be the bigger PPV draw, and produces higher gates in terms of revenue......but no one can realistically blame Floyd for it not happening in March 2010. The closest the fight was to happening was then, the only time contracts were know to be ready to go, and Manny/Arum/Top Rank straight up walked away from the fight, refusing testing, and signed to fight Joshua Clottey. Either way, it's no coincidence the guys Floyd's supposedly been "afraid" of were Top Rank fighters after splitting from them. Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao. Floyd and Arum will never make a fight together, neither guy wants to give the only money, it'll never happen. That's why Mayweather-Pacquiao won't happen until Floyd's last fight on the Showtime deal, which is ironically when Manny will be free from his current Top Rank contract.

I agree with most of your points, other than the further removed prime thing. The argument that Floyd hasn't been prime for longer, and thus is further removed isn't one I agree with, as it doesn't take into account the speed of which a fighter loses their abilities. With Manny I feel it was a very steep drop, which fits well with his style of fighting and the wars he has been in. With Floyd, it's an age thing, and his defensive style has allowed him to have a more flat "drop" in ability. If one fighter looks so much worse than his prime form, i'd argue it was Pacquiao Well to be honest, I don't think Floyd or Manny in 2010, when the fight was first proposed for, looked like they did back in 2002-2005. That's why I think it's funny to hear people act like Mayweather-Pacquiao in 2010 would have been both in their primes.....that's false. Both were and have been past prime-still good fighters since. Ali wasn't prime after his layoff at all, but he was still one of the best fighters from 70-75. Ali-Frazier 1 wasn't two fighters at their peak. I just think Floyd's a better fighter, and the second Manny fought guys that weren't punching bags or come forward aggressive fighters, he looked different. He fought Hatton and Cotto, which were very very good fights, but their styles were basically come forward and bang most of the time. Manny would kill anyone that does that with him. Than he fought Clottey, who literally was a human punching bag in his shell the whole night. Margarito who knows nothing more than come forward, and who was also coming off a bad loss. Mosley basically retreated the whole fight, turned it into a stinker, plus he was coming off 2 bad fights in a row. Than he fought Marquez and Bradley, who's styles are very different than what he'd been fighting, and guys who could still fight. And s**t, aside from 2 punches in the Marquez 4 fight, he looked good. And though people argue he looked bad against Bradley, I don't believe so. He beat a undefeated Top 10 P4P fighter by what should have been a comfortable 116-112/117-111 type of decision.

The fight has lost it's luster,...mainly because of Pac's general anesthesia moment with Marquez. So they better not wait any longer. If May beats Canelo,..and Pac beats Rios. Then it's fight on. Otherwise it starts to become not just overdue,..but overdue and ridiculous. I don't think Pac is in major decline. I think his focus is the biggest issue. I don't see a serious decline in handspeed. He looked very good in the Marquez fight aside from the disaster in the 6th. Floyd is in decline also,..but,..like Pac,..not in a major way. But his style and technical skills make it less obvious. Bottom line is this. They need to fight in the next 6mos,..to year(maximum),..or even boxing junkies like us won't care.

And Manny has 4 fights left on his Top Rank contract, and going by Arum's recent comments and Manny's comments from his camp, I think he intends to do that.

This fight still means something big, ONLY IF Manny comes back and looks good in his next few fights obviously. If he looks declined, than it doesn't matter. They'll probably be Rios, Bradley II, Marquez V, and Alvarado/Abregu. Mayweather's last fight on the Showtime deal is Fall 2015, which would ironically be the first time available for Manny to fight after his last Top Rank. manny's performance in his last fight was closer to his prime than any other fights before that and his prime A lot of criticisms of recent Manny has been his stamina in the later rounds, where he tends to cruise the later rounds and doesn't fire as much. That is so much different from the beast he used to be. The fight wasn't long enough for us to scope or make many conclusions about it. One conclusion you can make though, is the way it ended. How much can you attribute that KO loss to Marquez's power, or Manny's punch resistance? Can certainly question Manny's punch resistance after the fight, not many fighters recover from KO's like that and regain their iron chin. He did look decent I agree, but many fighters have shown glimpses of their prime form if they are really pushed for it, but it doesn't last long. Just look at Shane Mosley.

I know by just looking at your profile that i'm probably wrong, but surely you aren't trying to say that the way Mayweather wins this fight, proves that he'd indefinitely win the same way if Manny was prime? That is beyond ridiculous. Manny looks nothing like he did when he was prime, though he is still one of the best fighters in the world. That is of course, assuming Mayweather wins this fight. Noone can say for definite who'd win out of Prime Manny/Prime Floyd, as the fight didn't materialise. I'll let the fangirls whine over the reasons why. I'd love to see the fight now still though. It should, honestly this is the most realistic time it can happen in, being that Floyd has agreed to fight twice next year. It would still be a great fight, Neither has declined to the point where it won't be an accurate depiction of them in their primes, unlike the Manny/Oscar fight, which should have never happened. Hopefully this fight gets made, for us boxing purists, and for the haters who will have one less thing to cry about when Floyd retires.
