He's decided to choose between these two trainers after trying out 5 trainers, and since the deal with Mayweather Sr and Uncle Rodger failed. I think Nazim Richardson would be a better choice.
LMAO You know what I noticed? Watching the Ortiz that trained with Robert Garcia was astonishing. His defense looked a lot tighter and his punches were straighter, not telegraphed, and his body language made him look calm. As soon as Ortiz whined about not getting the full attention in camp he wanted and switched trainers his style went to ****. He became disoriented with his feet and the fact that he's a natural right hander fighting in a southpaw stance doesnt help. He also kept himself open throwing slightly sloppier punches. I think he needs someone that will help him fix those fundamentals cuz those went out the window when Danny Garcia brother of Robert Garcia took control of camp Ortiz.
Which fights did Robert train him for? Give me one where he was sharp, boxing-wise!!
If Nazim brought in Hopkins to help out and teach this kid some discipline I think he could still make some noise. He should have never been in the ring with Mayweather in the first place, mentally he was not ready to be in that type of event so soon after quitting against Maidana and that Berto fight was fools gold (Berto is a bum, just a figment of Al Haymon's imagination.)
I hope he comes back strong, he has overcome a lot in his life and he is an entertaining guy to watch.
what happened to freddy roach? i didnt know he was trying to hire uncle roger. Out of nazim or sanchez though, i feel sanchez would be a better fit but thats just me
Nazim. Nazim's personality alone is perfect for him. He'd keep him calm and be a good voice of reason...and probably give him a tip or two in "rough housing" so to speak so it's not blatant.
But a poster above is right. Ortiz was much more disciplined before and fought within himself. It worked for Berto but otherwise he's really running in a lot more with bad footwork. And half assing it at times when he steps back leaving himself wide open and not commiting completely to leaning away from a punch.
Nazim just needs for Ortiz to get a hold of himself and he can be that voice of reason. Ortiz can be a stud he has a lot going for him. Advice cant consist of just "stay on his ass" type talks. He's a better boxer (imo) than he's shown. Great speed and power with both hands and a good chin (remains to be seen but the shots that have put him down have been home runs and he gets up). I really like Ortiz he can still be an elite level guy.
How about Freddy Roach? Gung ho style, throwing bombs all over the place. 0 defense of course, but hey he's has a terrible defense already.

Imagine Nazim preaching boxing knowledge to Ortiz & teaching him the epitome of sweet science.....Ortiz would be confused like....
