This is an article about MMA fighter Roy Nelsons granite chin, but its a good read. They ask a Doctor about ability to take a punch. this is why Pacman will never be the same again he was concussed out cold for the first time in his life, being knocked out cold is much different than being knocked out but still awake. He will never be the same
And once you get knocked out the first time, you’re definitely more susceptible to getting knocked out again; you’re more vulnerable to worse concussions. The theory is that, although your body can reset those ionic concentrations inside and outside the cell, each time that happens, maybe it loses a little bit of its efficiency. So your ability to recover isn’t quite as good as it was before that happened. So it’s like you have a gate, it gets broken, and you repair it but the repair might not be quite as strong as the original and it never holds together as well as it once did.
This is the reason I believe boxing is far more dangerous than MMA. I’ve been the ringside doctor for many boxing and MMA matches, and I have no doubt that boxing is more dangerous than MMA. The whole point of MMA is that there are multiple targets, multiple ways to attack and I don’t think there’s quite as many repetitive blows to the head as you see in boxing. That’s the only target and the only weapon is your fist and it’s going to the same spot every time. When you look at the cumulative data, boxing has a higher risk of traumatic brain injury than we’re going to see in MMA. From a medical point of view, it’s still early to form conclusions about MMA, but just based on the actual blows to the head and the type of blows--boxing tends to be more circular based on the shape of the glove and the way the hands are taped; it’s a more circular blow. So you have a lot more of the rotational forces then you do in MMA, where the punches seem to be a little more linear.

Rios won't land a punch on Pacquiao. It's going to be horrible for him.I think you're mistaking Rios for a shot, drained De La Hoya and Pacquiao for the Pacquiao who fought De La Hoya.
I think this'll be a high contact fight both ways. Maybe not early for Rios, but if he's still there after 7 he's going to have some success.
I don't think Pacquiao will be gun shy after being knocked out and I don't think he'll be massively susceptible to being one-punched, at least not against Rios. It's more how he'll cope with Rio's pressure and pace that I consider to be an open question in this fight. The Pacman of 3 years ago may well have eaten Rios up, but he's noticeably slowed over the last handful of fights and I'm getting a feeling that this one could get highly competitive late.
Pac chin was never actually fractured by Marquez punch physically. We are talking here mentally and may not the case against mentally strong Pacquiao. In fact those ko will just make him a better boxer. I predict Pac will fight Rios intelligently ala Oscar vs Pac and will focus more on his defense.
stop reading at "may be".
I believe it depends on your mental strength/weaknesses. some fighters can get koed and they will keep fighting throughout their careers and come back eventually. Chin can get worse only with age and loss of reflexes.

To quote Jim Lampley...."bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang bang.....you want some more? bang!"
Rios has faster hands than Margarito, and Margarito landed a lot of punches on Pacman and trapped him on the ropes.
This is not a prime Pacquiao we are talking about here, one jab from Rios pushed Alvarado back and wobbled him. Alvarado comes into the ring at 160 Pacman at 148-150, Alvarado as big as he is was getting bloodied up and rocked by Rios and had to go through hell in the rematch to win.
Pacman might not last the rounds in this fight. One jab could send him to the floor like Nedal Huessin did.
im tellin yall, Rios is gona pull the upset
Upset? Rios should be favored big time in this fight.
Anytime someone is coming off a brutal KO you have to favor the fresher younger hungrier fighter. Rios was pissed off when he lost to Alvarado he wanted to fight him again the same night, dude is hungry and motivated and said 147 will make him more energized since he doesn;t have to drain himself to make the weight.
Rios also knows Pac's chin is cracked so he will be super confident come fight night. knowing that Pac can be knocked cold will make him fearless
This is the worst comeback fight for him to choose after getting KO cold.
If you want to comeback you take on a boxer who doesn't have much power so you can regain a bit of your confidence back, not a aggressive pressure fighter, with knockout power and an iron chin.
This fight was made by Arum to see where Pacman stands, either way he wins, Rios beats Pac he gets to transfer the fame over to Rios and let Rios fight the Bradley vs. JMM winner, Pac loses he becomes a stepping stone and retires.

The issue even if not physical will be mental. The pressure to win, the pressure to get over the KO, the fear knowing it can happen again, etc. It is no accident he picked a face first brawler that he can't miss. However, be wary this may backfire. If Pac hits Rios and he doesn't go anywhere Pac may be in trouble. Rios is an unreal pressure fighter and he is one heavy handed SOB too. If Pac gets Rios out of there within 3-4 rounds he will be fine. If this fight goes past 6-7 rounds Pac is going to take punishment.

No, "scientific stuff" is not theory, not how you are understanding it.
Unless there are peer reviewed scientific journals than this one single doctor's opinion doesn't matter at all.
This has to be the message board with the lowest IQ that I go to.
Lowest IQ? dude you are saying you are smarter or more knowledgeable at this stuff than a Doctor who studies this stuff for a living?
:pat:
You do realize many of the scientific stuff is theory right?
the doctors theory on this makes a lot of sense, he speaks the truth man, just face it dudes chin is done. He was put out cold and anytime a guy is out cold they never have the same type of chin.
the previous times Pac was knocked out he was still awake so he could recover from those type of KO's.

There is no scientific truth in this. Everyone is human and the little liquid that keeps our brain intact is not superglue, there is only so much of a knock our head can take without messing with the nervous system. Vitali was KO'd in his earlier days as a kickboxer but continued to go on and so many other sportsmen too. If a shot lands clean and disrupts the liquid that protects our brains you can have a blackout.
there could be other reasons as well. I read an article; online I think, that said one of the ways you get over fear of needles is doing strenuous chin and neck exercises. Since the rios fight has VADA testing, and will surely involve needles, maybe he's been working on that.
Typical Floyd stan twisting fact and lies. Show me the link, quote or video Pac said that himself. It was Arum who said that making excuses and trying to put in Pacquiao's mouth. The truth is Pac said he doesn't like his blood to be taken near the fight like the Morales fight because it weaken him. He was talking about his experience when they took another sample of his blood a day before the first Morales fight because his first blood sample they took magically disappeared. That was the main reason he asked for cut off days but never turn down the Floyd test and told him he can take his urine for a test everyday if he wants. Take note all these boxers recently on PED were caught using a urine test but nice try again though.
