Can't see Hopkins agreeing to fight Sergei Kovalev

Bernard will take whatever fight makes the most money... Haven't seen much of Kovalev, looks like he's active and has some pop but Bernard is the go to guy when it comes to taking away guys workrates(only Calzaghe and maybe Dawson proved otherwise) Doubt B-Hop fights Stevenson since he's dealing with HBO, so I wouldn't be suprised if this fight with Kovalev happens...

I think it's absurd to say Hopkins would handle Kovalev with ease. Kovalev is not Pascal or Cloud he will not stay there and try to time Bernard. Kovalev would throw hard fast combos from the get go. You got that right. Pascal and Cloud have actually won championships lol!!!

Meanwhile hopkins, who had dozens of title fights, has been a top fighter for two decades and boxed just about as many world class fighters as anyone in the sport hasnt seen anything like kovalev before? Are you for real? Look man, kovalev looks great. It really seems like he is the real deal. But its one thing to look great against the likes of cornelius white, being competetive let alone beating a man who is not only one of the best at 175 but one of the best fighters ever.. now thats something entirely different. Hopkins is proven at a level kovalev is yet to compete at. Until he has we dont know what potential flaws he might have and hopkins is a master of exposing flaws not to mention neutralize strenghts. But none of that is relevant atm, lets just see if kovalev can hang with the elite at 175, until then dont make ludicrous claims of him knocking out legends. You'll have to remind me of which fighters Hopkins has faced which apply constant pressure, constant power, and constant punching volume? I follow the sport pretty closely, and can't think of one. Meanwhile, Kovalev has faced a number of fighters who try and move around the ring and pick their spots, like Hopkins. The word "like" doesn't mean exact, as I agree that Kovalev has yet to face anyone as accomplished as Hopkins. You, however, should bear in mind that Hopkins isn't in his prime, and has never been a big puncher at championship level. I respect and appreciate Hopkins accomplishments as much as anyone, but this particular fight doesn't look good for him. He doesn't have the power to keep Kovalev off of him, and Kovalev's whole game is based on pressuring the opponent into fighting. Even worse for Hopkins, Kovalev is extremely good at it. Hopkins usually dictates the terms of his fights. Against Kovalev, the opposite will be true. It's worth keeping in mind that Gabriel Campillo would have been a world champion if he hadn't been robbed. Campillo was comfortably one of the best in the division and Kovalev's TKO of him shouldn't be overlooked just because he had some undeserved official "losses".

knowing hopkins he won't take on sergey kovalev, big props if he does but I think hopkins will be humiliated by kovalev. And I don't think any of the other beltholders wanna fight kovalev either.

He avoids non-plodders - Ward, for instance - because they've backfired in the past (i.e. Jones and Calzaghe). Even though Kovalev is very talented, he is a borderline plodder, but perhaps not enough of a plodder. I'm assuming this is a reference to the fact that Kovalev is just now making his mark on the sport at the age of 30. That's irrelevant, in my opinion. Regardless of progression, Kovalev is a dangerous fight for ANY fighter at light heavweight or either division up or down from it. Hopkins game is simple: he forces his opponent to follow him around the ring while he holds and pot shots. And, while Hopkins is quite skilled at this approach, he's simply not used to the type of pressure and punching volume that Kovalev brings to the table. It's a terrible match-up for Hopkins, and I think he knows that.
