Who are the top 2 or 3 athletically gifted boxers of all time? Not necessarily the best or p4p but the most athletically gifted. Fighters born with athletic gifts that leave you in awe. The ones that come to mind for me are:
1) Roy Jones jr- never had a boxer leave me shocked so consistently
2) sugar ray Robinson- far above his time
Muhammad Ali- moved like a middleweight
The ability to change direction incredibly fast and remain on balance is athleticism. no thats having good balance, athleticism is the ability to exert powerfull force over a long time and is much more a reference to physical ability. stuff like hand speed, power, toughness, stamina are what i would say are athletic qualitys. balance, reflexes, technique are skills to be learned. if george foreman thought he had to dance around to win fights, people would be talking about how great an athlete he was because he stayed on balance while bouncing around. ali chose to dance, foreman chose to slug but if they competed in various physical events foreman would win more i think.
I think you're the first guy on this thread that truly understands the meaning of athleticism.
he put sergio martinez in the top three and gave muhammad ali "honorable mention...."
1. Roy Jones Jr.
2.Sugar Ray Robinson
3.Muhammad Ali
3 men that could probably excel at any sport they chose to, but ended up becoming boxers and dominated athletically there.
probably
1-RJ
2-SRR
3-Ali/Tyson
Honorable Mention to SRL, Shane, Big Ike, Meldrick, etc.....
I think people are overrating Pea's athletic ability. He's not on the level as some of the others in terms of being an athelete. Fighter he's ahead of nearly all of them but not pure athelete
Whitaker was more of an athlete than Robinson. Throwng a punch hard or fast doesn't make a great athlete.
Whitaker's bodily movement is second to none in the history of this sport. That's why he is a great athlete. The ability to change direction incredibly fast and remain on balance is athleticism.
Not to mention Whitaker cross trained. I'm sure Whitaker would be able to adapt to a totally different sport easier than Robinson could.
george foreman must be top if your talking about physicality. he can barely box and he is in my opinion the best heavy weight ever.

get it right boy!!!! "ain't no lightweight can move as fast as me"
Was there anyone in boxing more physically perfect than Tyson?
Speed
Power
Explosiveness
Reflexes
Endurance
Toughness
Honestly, name on fighter in the history of boxing who beats Tyson in those departments. Tyson imo only fell short mentally.
yeah Tyson was a tremendous Athlete, but also a smaller heavyweight. he just had the Noggin and punching power to compete at HW.
for me it's Ali though, A big man moving around on his feet like that is incredible. Holmes had really quick hands but whenever he got up on his toes he looked heavy and stupid.
Proportionately and frame wise Ali had big legs and a lean upperbody.
probably
1-RJ
2-SRR
3-Ali/Tyson

Top athletically gifted.
Roy Jones Jr. (It's literally all he was)
Pernell Whitaker
Sergio Martinez (pro soccer player, pro cyclist, pro boxer... enough said)
Honorable mention is Muhammed Ali. To be that big and move that light. It's athletic gifts.
I think you're the first guy on this thread that truly understands the meaning of athleticism.
Cant say for all-time but in my lifetime its: Roy jones, pernell, serg

Top athletically gifted.
Roy Jones Jr. (It's literally all he was)
Pernell Whitaker
Sergio Martinez (pro soccer player, pro cyclist, pro boxer... enough said)
