Inspired by another thread, who do you rate as the top 5 most exciting active fighters in the sport today?
1. Amir Khan - love him or hate him, his vulnerability and blinding handspeed make him a must watch, irrespective of the opponent you never know what's going to happen next with Khan.
2. Gennady Golovkin - relentlessly comes forward with exceptional footwork and KO power in both hands, he doesn't give his opponents a second to relax and invariably knocks them out
3. Carl Froch - willingness to take so many shots on the chin while replying to every one of them has made for consistent wars in his career, you get your money's worth with Carl Froch
4. Manny Pacquiao - slightly faded footwork but his fast hands, power and willingness to engage mean you'll rarely miss a fight where he is involved, who's not going to watch the Rios fight?
5. Marcos Maidana - arguably been in 3 FOTY contenders in his last couple of years, he brings it to his opponent and always comes to fight.
That's my top 5, who do you rate as your five most exciting boxers?
may= been in some more boring clashes (baldomir) but I still enjoy watching his technical brilliance, and its exciting when a fighter does manage to land something on him (Mosley, Cotto, Ortiz)
maidana- ive only seen the man in one boring fight, and that wasn't his fault. He's blood, guts, and power. He has some good boxing instincts when he uses them too
pac- Some boring outings clottey, marg, and jmm 46435 were uninspired, imo.. But one of the most exciting boxing moments in recent times was when he smashed Cotto.
matthysse- a dark horse candidate but I watch his career with great interest. I will be rooting for him over Garcia
Mares- another dark horse candidate. I have lots of respect for this kid he always gives a great showing and finds a way to win
GGG
Matthysse
Pacquiao
Leo Santa Cruz
Maidana
Honorable mentions: Mares, Ortiz, Khan, Rios, Provodnikov, Canelo, Wlad, Vitali, Mikey Garcia, and probably a ton more
I'll stop arseing around on your thread now Weebs.
Rios has gotta be on there. His enthusiasm for a tear-up is infectious.
I would have chose Khan likewise but Hunter may be in the process of taking away his best qualities.
I would genuinely have Mayweather in there. I have a hard-on for technique.
Seth Mitchell 'cause it could go either way but someone is getting knocked out.
Froch because at this point in his career he's going to war . . . and he's British.
. . . . To be honest, after watching a programme on Zinedine Zidane last night (the only footballer I truly miss watching) coupled with this thread I'm now pining for Ricky Hatton. . . So I'm gonna take a few minutes to remember the good times!
But it depends if we're talking fighters on their own, or fights they've been in? If we are talking exciting fighters, I don't think Carl Froch should be top 5.
I guess it's a bit of both, but I think mainly the fights they're involved in. If it were just about attributes I think Pacquiao's speed-power combination takes it but he's not always in exciting fights.
Floyd Mayweather :lol1:
Is that the guy that people boo and always leave early when he fights:lol1:.
It's personal opinion. If you dig that particular fighting style I can see how FMJ would be exciting to someone.
What about Ruslan Provodnikov? I've only seen him fight twice tbh, but what I saw was pretty damn good!
Thought of him, but like you I've only watched a couple of fights he has been in.
future top 5:
Provodnikov
Stevenson
Canelo
Broner
Garcia
Stevenson is a good shout but I hate to give him credit.
Top Five:
Carl Froch - I just enjoy him. He's awkward in the ring, but has good ring IQ. He comes to fight every night. I'm going to miss the Cobra
Miguel Cotto - Past it, but still testing himself and still giving good shows. The matchups available would all be bangers
Marcos Maidana - Is a slugger with his trainer adding a little bit of skill. In the end, when the going gets rough, my boy resorts to what he knows best, warring. Miguel Cotto vs Maidana is my dream fight for 2013.
Abner Mares - Reminds me a bit of Cotto and Robert trained version of Maidana. Boxer/Brawler style. What I love about Mares is that he'll do whatever it takes to win a fight. If he has to tap a few nuts, throw some elbows, he'll get the W.
Sergio Martinez - Has a dumb style that puts him in precarious situations. In the end, does what he has to, to get a W. Has that championship rounds gusto that I dig.
1. Canelo Alvarez = great combos, great power, good boxing iq.
2. Brandon rios = always leaves everything in the ring, great body puncher, good chin.
3. Manny = fast, accurate, amazing stamina, iron chin, good power.
4. Abner mares = fast, strong will to win, great combos, good power
5. Lucas mathysse = very powerful on both hands, good stamina, decent boxer.
- Manny Pacquiao
- Marcos Maidana
- Luccas Matthyse
- Carl Froch
- Sergio Martinez (on his way out though)
Gotta admitt these guys go hard all fight, whether they get knocked down or go back up and get em.
Mayweather is obviously the most exciting fighter before, then after a fight
Marquez needs another banger/offensive fighter with him to get going, bland if he fights another counter puncher
future top 5:
Provodnikov
Stevenson
Canelo
Broner
Garcia
